Pretty wild how Sean seems more excited for an Indian release than he is for a lot of big budget Hollywood films that he’s been covering for many years.

yeah, because the story is something from the roots of oldest civilization on earth and currently followed. It may have blend of hollywood hints but it is about our gods and history and future.

When it comes to Sean, he’s been covering big budget Hollywood films tied to established franchises, so it’s nice to see him enjoying filmmaking from a different culture. In general, movies from all over the world have their own merits and value to them as they take the medium of film and deliver something creative and compelling.

Yeah you see Hollywood movies some of them like 'rebel moon' are so bad in connecting with characters.indian movies atleast dwell us into emotions and connect with characters keeping graphics aside.cuz of low budget.
Let me explain why Indian audience is damn eager for this: In Hinduism, there are 4 Yugas (Eras). Satya Yuga (Golden Age) Treta Yuga (Silver Age) Dwapar Yuga (Copper Age) and Kali Yuga (Iron Age).
The level of wickedness, badness and misery in world increases in every consecutive Yuga. As years pass, one Yug ends and another begins.
Ramayan happened in Treta Yug. Mahabharat happened in Dwapar Yug. Currently we are in the Kali Yug (2024 AD).
Now the interesting part, The Yugas aren't linear, they are in a circle like a clock, the end of Kali Yug would begin the Satya Yug. But as Satya Yuga is the holiest of all and Kaliyug the unholiest, the transition of these two Yugas won't be the same as the other pairs. When this happens, the Universe will face an entire wipe out and only the good souls will survive that will carry on the Satya Yuga once again. It is like a circle of life.What begins will end, and the end will bring a new beginning!
There are more details of each Yuga in ancient Indian Scriptures (Vedaas, Puraanas, etc.), how they were, what were the timelines, how were the humans then, etc.
Now, coming to the movie... You need to know that in these four Yugas, to maintain the balance and prove the victory of goodness vs evil (Dharma vs Adharma), Lord Vishnu, the Proprietor of the Universe incarnates in the mortal world for 10 times, called the 10 Avatars or Dashavatar (There are many more but 10 are mainly known in the Scriptures).
Here are the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu in order:
1. Matsya: The fish avatar, said to have rescued the first man, Vaivasvata Manu, and the seven sages during the great flood.
2. Kurma: The tortoise avatar, who helped the gods and demons churn the ocean of milk to obtain the nectar of immortality.
3. Varaha: The boar avatar, who rescued the goddess Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha.
4. Narasimha: The half-man, half-lion avatar, who killed the demon Hiranyakashyap.
5. Vamana: The dwarf avatar, who defeated the demon king Mahabali.
6. Parashurama: The axe-wielding avatar, who destroyed the demon king Kartavirya Arjuna and his sons.
7. Rama: The prince of Ayodhya, who defeated the demon king Ravana and his brother Kumbhakarna.
8. Krishna: The divine prince of Mathura, who defeated the demon king Kansa and his allies.
9. Buddha: The enlightened one, who taught the path of non-violence and self-realization.
10. Kalki: The future avatar, who is said to appear at the end of the Kali Yuga to bring about a new era of peace and prosperity.
Note: Some sources may vary in their listing of the avatars, but the above is the most commonly accepted order.
Avatar is an Indian (Sanskrit) word. Dharma means righteousness and not religion here!.
You guys must have heard about Shree Ram, Shree Krishn and The Buddha. They were the 7th, 8th and 9th Avatars of Lord Vishnu. Depending on necessities, He incarnated with different qualities and forms. In Treta Yug, Shree Ram established Dharma by defeating Ravan and establishing Ram Rajya, the rule of peace. In Dwapar Yug, Shree Krishn defeated Kans to protect his region, and his role in the Great Mahabharat to establishDharm is known by you. Interestingly, till today, only 9 Avatars have been born and completed their goals. The 10th and last avatar of Lord Vishnu was prophecised to come at the end of Kali Yug to establish Dharm once again and this destruction will start the Satya Yuga once again. The name of this Avatar will be Kalki. Even the birthplace and names of parents are mentioned in the Holy Scriptures of Hinduism. This movie is based on the place, where Shambhapur will see the birth of Kalki (in the womb of Deepika). Amitabh Bachchan's character is of Ashwatthama, one of the 7 Chiranjeevi of the world, who was cursed by Shree Krishn at the end of Mahabharat to be Chiranjeevi and suffer. He and the other 6 Chiranjeevi including Hanuman will pave the way for Kalki to reach his destination to defeat Kali, the demon.
The Chiranjeevi are a group of seven immortals in Hindu Scriptures, who are said to have lived for thousands of years and are believed to possess supernatural powers. (Immortal in the scene thatthey have long life span not unkillable, btw they are very strong, super human strong like the super man so it's very unlikely that anyone can kill them!)
According to Hindu scriptures, these immortals will remain alive until the end of the Kali Yuga, the current era of time.
The 7 Chiranjeevi:
1. Parashurama: The sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, known for his knowledge of all astras and shastras. He is said to reemerge at the end of time to be the martial guru of Kalki, the final avatar of Lord Vishnu.
2. Ashwatthama: The son of Dronacharya, a great warrior and teacher. He was gifted with a gem on his forehead by Lord Shiva and possesses divine powers.
3. Hanuman: The devoted follower of Lord Rama and a key figure in the Ramayana. He is said to be immortal and will remain alive until the end of the Kali Yuga.
4. Kripa: A great warrior and a teacher of the Pandavas. He is said to possess supernatural powers and is believed to be immortal.
5. Vibhishana: The brother of Ravana and the king of Lanka. He is said to have been given the blessing of a long life by Lord Rama and will remain alive until the end of the Kali Yuga.
6. Bali: A king of the asuras and a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. He is said to be immortal and will remain alive until the end of the Kali Yuga.
7. Vyasa: A great sage and the author of the Mahabharata and the Puranas. He is said to be immortal and will remain alive until the end of the Kali Yuga.
These seven immortals are believed to possess supernatural powers and are said to play a crucial role in the events leading up to the end of the Kali Yuga and the beginning of the Satya Yuga, the next era of time.
This movie has the backdrop of a very core subject which is close to us Indians and that's why, people will definitely appreciate it.
I'll say a very interesting fact at the last: 1. It is believed that in Satya Yuga, good and evil were in different worlds, Devta (Demigods) in Devlok and Asuras (demons) in Asurlok...
2. In Treta Yug, good and evil were in same world, Shree Ram and Ravan
3. In Dwapar Yug, good and evil were in the same family, Pandavas and Kauravas.
4. In Kali Yug, good and evil are in the same person, our own thoughts! THIS IS A VERY BIG LESSON I BELIEVE!

I think even without much context you will be able to follow the movie. That’s what Nagi Sir aims at. Those who know and read the history react in one way, those who heard bits and pieces react differently. And those who are completely new to the world will also do fine.
Those preludes by Nag Ashwin will help get some broad idea. Those are short.

Brother, what a beautiful art work, the colour grading is very beautiful, the VFX looks so good, every frame is very beautiful. I was already very excited for this movie, there was no need for trailer 2, but after watching the trailer 2 I can't wait anymore.

Here's the premise:
In 2898 AD, the desertified city of Kasi is now the only city known to exist, ruled by a totalitarian elite, led by Supreme Yaskin, from a hovering inverted-pyramidal-megastructure above the city known as the "Complex". Set against the backdrop of Indian mythology and a dystopian society, the story chronicles the journey spanning millennia, from the events of the Mahabharata in the year 3102 BC, the beginning of Kali Yuga, to 2898 AD. The core of the narrative revolves around the enigmatic figure of Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of the Hindu deity, Vishnu.
It is being planned to be released in Telugu and Hindi, with dubbed versions in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and English.

Madhava is lord Krishna’s name. It is a subtle reference to the Mahabharata where it is stated that whenever evil overcomes good, then lord Krishna will descend onto the earth and eliminate all evil. Also the shots of the piles of dead bodies that you saw in the trailer are the warriors who died during the Mahabharata war.

It has subtitles. My local theater has 3 screens in Telugu with english subtitles and one Hindi with subtitles. I don't think they're ever dubbed in english for the theatrical release.
When I saw LEO last year I was in the front row on a massive screen. By the end of the movie my neck hurt from having to move my head side to side to fully read the subtitles because we were so close. haha

It draws from the events at the end of the epic Mahabharata and the Mahabharata war in which the previous Avatar of Vishnu or Krishna is present as the charioteer and projects it to the next or 10th and final Avatar of Vishnu that is Kalki and to the imagined events of his birth at the end of Kali Yuga or the Age of Darkness. As per ancient Indian scriptures Kaliyuga starts with death of Krishna and ends with Kalki who destroys darkness and restores balance to the world and creation. Comparing it with anything else except a few stylisations is missing the point.
If you really want to get the context read a little into at least the Mahabharata and the concept of yuga though at most places you will find wrong idea of timelines.
The Character of Aswathhama (old man) played by Amitabh Bachhan is a character of Mahabharata who was cursed with immortality for his crime of killing unborn children in the mothers womb. Yes in Hindu tradition immortality is a curse as it prevents you from renewing yourself. Aswathhama lives through 6000 yrs to protect the unborn child that is destined to be the 10th Avatar Kalki and be released of his curse of immortality and bringing his Karma full circle.

the director himself said he had some inspiration from Dune and Star Wars , but other then sci-fi it has one more element of Great Indian Culture and History , this whole film which is set in a time which is already mentioned in ancient scriptures

You can watch the two "preludes" of the movie on youtube where the director is explaining the world of this movie through the concept arts himself .. It will definitely help you in understanding it more.
For some indian context - Prabhas, the lead actor of this movie and he was in Salaar too and in Baahubali, was also in another big budget movie, Adipurush, which still is the biggest budget movie of India and it released in 2023 and there was a lot of talking of that movie for all the wrong reasons.
1) The VFX Completely sucked, like it was not even a bit good, idk where the producers placed their investment.
2) Since it was based on the hindu mythology, it had a ton of things that will offend a hindu, idk if the makers did it intentionally or ?
3) The dialogues suck
4) The movie in general is just bad...
So after that movie released, the expectiions of Indian audience with big budget indian ventures, especially with prabhas, was at all time low and then this movie's gimpse released and everyone had their jaw dropped and here we are. The visuals are not perfect but 1000x better than the abomination that Adipurush was. Prabhas was at all timr high during his Baahubali phase but after that, his all movies seemed to fail. Saaho - flop, Radhe Shaym - flop, Adipurush - Biggest flop, Salaar - Average (i didn't liked it personally), Kalki seems to break that streak.

I'm telling you Sean as a South Indian I really appreciate you giving a shot at our films but at one point you're gonna get bored of it all. You'll see every film will feel the same with the same kinda theatre reaction making none of it special anymore. Trust me soon you'll realise all the cheering and hooting is for all the films not just the good ones.
I don’t mean to be offensive or anything in any way, just speaking my experience, but I’ve only seen about 7 or so Indian films, the last 4-5 were action and it’s kinda true what you’re saying. The last one I watched was Pathaan and after watching Leo, Jawan, and Animal back to back to back to back, it did kinda drain me afterwards 😂 I haven’t seen another one since, that was back in January. I get what you’re trying to say tho. Your cinema is still really damn cool 🔥
