The actress really encompasses Jane's spirit unlike any other actor I have seen. In the book Jane is portrayed as strong and other performances have not lived up to that. This actress really did!!
What's funny is, Orson Welles thought the same thing about the version he wound up playing Rochester in -- that Jane should be "a mouse that roars", somebody plain whom Rochester can't help but fall in love with, but he felt Joan Fontaine, being a great beauty, was only playing down that beauty and playing the character way more passively than Jane ought to be.
I'm lost for words with how well the actress delivered her lines. These are the performances I would be willing to spend as much just to witness their overflowing talents and dedication to their passion. Excellent!
This deserves a standing ovation.
I swear I watch this video at least once a month. Jane is a dream role!

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics. I've always identified with her since my first reading of the book in the eighth grade. And I've always found Mr. Rochester to be flawed, but infinitely attractive. I wish this was done more often in theater than it is.

This is definetly the kind of speech where it matters if you’re doing stage acting or film acting. On a stage, you need to be that expressive so that the people at the back of the theater can see it. On film, that amount of spit while talking just comes off as ridiculous. Not an easy play to film since it is a very theatrical play, meaning that it uses every element of theater that only works inside a theater.
I could never get into classics but I felt this monologue in my soul, I might pick up Jane Eyre some time

She sounds too hysterical. Ruth Wilson is the perfect Jane Eyre. Nothing can compare to the bbc miniseries.

I am waiting this theatre but I couldn't understand. Jane Eyre is a too young girl who is between 18-20 years old. And she is kind, graceful, proud. Why did not you find a young girl? This actress looks older. 👎 You could find another girl who can perform the same performance.
