Cartoons today may have great jokes, sly adult humour kids may not immediately get and will be filled with pop culture references. It's the staple of cartoons today, simpler animation to be able to focus on their stories and humour. But, like kids today will say and look back, we say cartoons back in our day had a real charm to them. Were they brilliantly written? No, to be fair, but toons back then knew how to channel themselves into the audience it was shown to. It had a certain class that today's pop culture blasting, cg-rendered toons today lack. Heathcliff is just one of the many fantastic toons that had this charm. Thomas, Thundercats, Berths, Postman Pat, Transformers, GI Joe and so many others.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! You're so far the first person who has praised the cartoons from the older days WITHOUT badmouthing modern cartoons! You are mature and fair, and that's quite the rarity to see nowadays, especially here one the internet! Bless you!
Out of all the early DiC shows that used Hanna-Barbera's stock sound effects, I feel the first season of this show came the closest to sounding like an actual Hanna-Barbera cartoon when using said sound effects.
The two Heathcliff cartoons were before my time and too obscure for me to have seen them on TV, but man, Shuki Levy's theme for Heathcliff and the Cadillac Cats makes me want to watch the series.
Damn right Ba ho, i happen to be one myself and i dug Cleo when i was a kid! I have no idea why I watched this when I was younger, but damn if it wasn't an enjoyable show. It's a shame it gets compared to Garfield so much cause the two are on such a different level in style, budget, etc. It's more of a successor to Top Cat than it is a ripoff of Garfield, honestly. Great theme song, though. Impossible to forget.
When I first saw this, I told my dad the name, and he - typical German - said just something like "Hieffcleff?" or something. That's what I remembered, and that's how I found this video. 20-year old memories..
This was one of my favorite cartoons because i would get laughs outof the conflict between Heathcliff and Spike. Then when the Junk yard was shown i always liked what Riff Raff, Hector, Wordsworth, and Mongo would get into. Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats ran in syndication until about 1988, when it moved to cable for reruns, first on Nickelodeon.
