    Its not just the pronunciation that makes the accent beautiful. The vocal cords plus your beauty and constant smiles on the face amplify the atractipn.

    in brief:
    The video provides a comprehensive guide on how to nail a modern Received Pronunciation (RP) British accent, also known as Standard Southern British English (SSBE).
    The video is hosted by Izzy, a Cambridge graduate and doctor based in London, who stresses that her accent is just one among many variations of British accents.
    Izzy focuses on seven key pronunciation points using specific words to illustrate each.
    Here are the seven points and words that she elaborates on:
    1. Long O sound: Demonstrated with the words 'hello' and 'open'. The emphasis is on the elongated O sound, which is considered a diphthong or a moving vowel where the mouth gradually closes down.
    2. Long wide R sound: The word 'tomato' is used to illustrate this pronunciation, contrasting it with the American pronunciation. This sound is also found in words like 'grass', 'bath', 'father', and 'laugh'.
    3. Non-Rhotic R sound: The word 'rather' is used to demonstrate this feature of RP, which is the absence of 'r' pronunciation at the end of words when not followed by a vowel.
    4. Schwa sound: This common, neutral sounding vowel in British English is shown through words like 'doctor' and 'rather'.
    5. Short Round O sound: Shown using the word 'honestly', which includes a silent 'h' and the round 'o' sound.
    6. Curled Round O sound: The word 'water' is used to demonstrate this point. Izzy also emphasizes the importance of enunciating all 't's in RP English, unlike in American English where the 't' sometimes sounds like 'd'. She also mentions the absence of glottal stops in RP English.
    7. Full T enunciation: The word 'daughter' is used to illustrate the full enunciation of 't's, as well as the curled round 'o' sound from the previous point.
    Izzy encourages viewers to practice these pronunciation points and suggests more content for viewers interested in refining their British accent. She acknowledges the diversity of British accents and focuses specifically on the modern RP accent for this guide.

    My mother tongue is Portuguese, I've been taught American English since I was a child and it was hard for me to try and speak with the British accent, but after I've started learning German, it felt more natural. I've noticed similarities in some aspects and sometimes it is easier to pronounce certain words with a British accent instead of the American one. Thanks for the video, it sure helps a lot!

    • @leofrasier6716
      @leofrasier6716 8 днів тому

      It's crazy that you say this because I've always felt like Portuguese sounds like someone who couldn't speak Spanish or German so they mix them together and that's what Portuguese sounds like to me no offense I'm not particularly fond of the Portuguese language nothing against the people but that's crazy that you said that it's easier for you to go from Portuguese to German rather than American English I hope you understand where I'm coming from and I do apologize if it is a little bit offensive it's not intended to be it's just something that I've noticed with the Portuguese accent the German accent the Spanish accent I guess all at different times.

    • @nrgrth7988
      @nrgrth7988 8 днів тому

      @leofrasier6716 It depends on which Portuguese you're talking about. I am Brazilian, there are dozens of different accents here. Non-speakers usually say European Portuguese sounds like Russian (and I understand them), meanwhile Brazilian Portuguese depends on the accent you're analyzing, and they say Spanish sounds more like Modern Greek. Portuguese and German share more sounds than Portuguese and English, that's why it's easier for me to speak German. And about your comparison to Spanish: I think it depends on which language you got introduced to first, for me Spanish sounds like a broken version of Portuguese, but that's because Portuguese is my native language. Well, in a way you could say Spanish is more "broken" because they have been through more lenition than Portuguese, but if you started learning both you'd realize there are many differences between them.

      All have done evil “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) The penalty for sin is hell (Revelation 21:8). Because of Gods love for us Jesus Christ came down from heaven to take the punishment for our sin on the cross in which he was spat on, beaten, mocked and laughed at.
      Christ died for the sins of the world and The third day God raised him from the dead (Praise God). This was done so that those who believe on Christ will not perish (hell) but have life everlasting (heaven); be justified by Gods grace through redemption in Christ (John 3:16) (Romans 3:24).
      The blood Jesus shed on the cross washes away our sin if we Believe in The Son of God and his finished work (ordained by God) on the cross. When this happens the believer receives the righteousness of Christ in place of their own unrighteousness (all sins are forgiven) and this makes them saved (going heaven) and they are born again as a Christian. (Romans 3:25-26)

    A good tutorial again. Yet I am looking forward to seeing a British English tutorial focusing on a very important aspect of RP which is the "light staccato" rythme as opposed to the "glide up and down" in American English, certainly also very different from the heavy staccato Germany accent. Something worth considering in your next video?

    You're incredibly eloquent, did not expect to enjoy watching these so much! I could probably listen to you for hours; I'd love to see you doing a medicine related channel. 😁
    But the term "RP" really bothers me, as it suggests this is the most prominent accent. Unless someone can give me hard evidence to suggest otherwise, I'll be very surprised if that's true. I've only met a dozen people in my life who speak RP. They're usually either retired or went to private school and/or came from a wealthy background.
    Most of us speak like total commoners. "Hey, s'up pal? 'Ow ya doin'?" 😂
