I grew up during the 60's, at the height of the cold-war, "Duck-and-Cover" drills and all. In my New England hometown, this siren went off EVERY Friday at 11:am, and we had to file out of class, go down to the school basement, get down on our knees, face-down, hands covering the backs of our heads, sideways against the wall under the stairs. I didn't realize it at the time, but as the crow flies, we were about 6 miles from a Strategic Air Command base. There were always two nuclear-armed B-52's, circling high overhead, and two more, sitting on a runway, engines idling 24/7, crews standing by, all ready to fly to Russia at a moment's notice. In the event of a nuclear war, my city would have been one of the FIRST targets for an ICBM.
My home state used to test tornado sirens once a month on a Wednesday and It used to sound just like this. Every time it would go off it would be a *GODFUCKINGDAMNIT* moment at first untill I realized it’s just a test😂
