Rudy - Fantastic video walking through SO MANY things to look at when comparing versions. The little differences between version is key, and something that many people aren't even aware of.
Getting the mana symbol correct would be something serious counterfeiters had 30 years to learn. And anyway the Dual Lands are a thing. The bold artist box maybe new for some. But I imagine all of those features were known to 2nd generation counterfeiters by about 1998-2003. End of Reserved List beginning of Modern. After that they might have tried to improve passing the green dot test. I'm not saying "all counterfeiters can" I'm saying "serious ones worth stopping" would have been at that level. Stores and collectors are more educated what to look for.....and more educated what counterfeiters know. So in the first place....green dot, Black light, bend test, and blue core are tests you'll have to be thinking you'll be subjected to. Rudy didn't show everything.
Just picked up an Alpha Regenerate today. Minty, wanted an Earthbind as well but it's too much. Just fun for me to have my 3rd or 4th Alpha card. LOVE seeing these amazing cards thinking back on some of the older vids deciding the broken dreams were indeed
"Rudy's Raw" 😂😂😂 Keep them videos coming! I love all the particulars in identifying the fake b.s. ones good work! Also always good to see such a grand collection! 😊
I used to print Black Lotus off the internet and get in trouble for wasting the printer ink and the glossy photo paper But my little brother and I realized we only played each other and we could just agree to not care if cards were fake as long as the backs were real and the deck could shuffle
I'm really glad Rudy has cleaned up his pronunciation and doesn't incorrectly call them "Lotuses" anymore. He really cares about accuracy and quality for his videos!
I always figured the duel lands would be the most counterfeit but I wouldn’t be shocked if Black lotus actually was the most counterfeited card though.
Interesting how the Betas can be identified by a printing error on the cost. I guess Wizards was always sloppy on their initial releases. It's just like 1st Edition and Shadowless Pokemon Base Set with the completely off-center attack costs, incorrect Pokemon stats, reversed HP text and innumerable printing inconsistencies.
The only two I have are beta black lotuses and they're definitely not counterfeit because I pull them back when I didn't know what the f*** magic was and just within collecting cards and I started playing Magic and of course I played with them because they are powerful so mine look way worse than the one Rudy showing right here
Good information If I ever run across a pile of Black Lotusi. But really, I appreciate the info. I've been going through a 9000 card collection for my stores. Turned out to be nothing but common and uncommon. However there was some ice age and alliances. Would have been worth some real money if they knew what they had. Unfortunately the collection is from a kid that only pulls cards with a R or M on the bottom. 😢
As always, best advise: Compare the item to other items of the same printing, same set, same era. So don't start with the highest value cards but first get comparable cards from the same set to learn what to look for.
This is why I keep a few common/uncommon/(cheap) rares from each of the old school magic sets in a binder. I rarely buy reserve list stuff cuz I'm mostly draft play, but if i do...bring the binder and compare.
If you want to see the variance of the brown tones right next to each other; starting at 3:31 look at the Mox Emerald in the middle on the right side of the binder (lighter) and the ones immediately to the left and right of it (darker) especially
I Bought Cheap $10 Black Lotus cards, just to play with my daughter. Definitely a Proxy/Counterfeit… not a professional player, neither expect to play tournament, just For Fun… 🤷🏻♂️…
Ok but I thought, as you've said, that most counterfeit cards are not power 9, and they're usually newer $20 - $50 cards? Am I missing something here? Did you forget? Is it all just fugazi? Everything is fake, I'm selling everything....
the card stock in the 2010s-2020s is so difficult for the average newbie to recognize and differentiate counterfeits from the real thing. ive seen some fetches and such that are VERY difficult to identify unless youre experienced.
by very experienced you mean cursory internet search and some kind of magnification? Font/font position is almost always off and rosette and black lines always give it away
@@chim007azo I thought the black-being-printed-separately thing was solved years ago, for better or worse - guess it depends on who makes the fake. @@DanknDerpyGamer it’s not something that needs to be solved. It’s easily replicated at professional printing factories all over the word. Hey Rudy thanks a lot for this education. I was curious if you could make a all in video on all the detailed checks you do. I know the green dot, lgith, black light and scale test but was wondering if there is more. The Centering of the mana value was interesting!
