I don't usually comment on YT videos... but as a bookkeeper, it makes me so happy when a business owner can look BEYOND revenue. It's not that revenue isn't important, but it does not tell the whole story. So, thank you!
I do feel the frustration. I was right where you are. So thrilled to learn from your practice and approach I feel like it can’t help but improve if I consider and try your approach.
I love this take on annual planning! I have sat through this process with previous leadership and now that I have influence on the process, I really think it's important to map out the year in a way that makes us feel good about the work and really see the impact of our efforts. Thanks as always for the transparency!
Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful planning video! 🙏 I followed your suggestions (using Notion) to get organized for 2024 and it was a total game changer. 🙌 Please keep the awesome content coming - can't wait to implement more of your genius ideas! 💡 You've helped this viewer get their ducks in a row for the new year. Thank you, Layla! 💕
Thank you a ton for your kind words and I'm thrilled that the video made a difference in your 2024 organization! 🚀 It's awesome to hear that the content resonated with you!
Fantastic and timely video on the importance of that annual review, not just to crispen up the next year's goals, but review what went well, what didn't, and how to do better. Quick question though: What mind mapping tool did you use to create this vision? It doesn't look like XMInd, ClickUp or Miro... what is it? :)
Such a great video and appreciate your step by step tutorial and accompanied by your authentic transparency commentary ❤. Can I ask what is the whiteboard tools that your using in this video and can you do comparison series of whiteboard apps. I use ClickUp but I find it extremely laggy and features not that great
@@LaylaPomper Thanks for this great video. Can you explain why you decided to use Whimsical vs. Click's mind-map feature for example? Reducing the number of tools is my goal. But I'm also interested to know how or why a specific tool is chosen over the embedded feature a tool (you already use) has.
Oooo I can’t wait to use this process for my annual planning this year. Can you please expand on what you mean by “task out” under What of planning. Do you fully list out all the tasks for each project at this point of planning? Thanks for another great video 😊
Hey Anna! During planning, I’d assign tasks (ex: “Plan this project”). That’s it! At the start the planned date range (ex: Q1), whoever the coordinator is spends 1-4 hours breaking out everything into detailed tasks. ☺️ This is then revised every two weeks or so as the project goes on.
Thanks for sharing your process! It's reassuring to find people who think the same way I do! I find so many people don't value the Thinking/Strategy part of business/leadership/management and just rush through things without any thinking or planning. Nice format for the video btw, is this Milanote?
Adding on to this, Layla almost instinctively split the strategic planning (which is a really bad phrase BTW) into the two actual phases: Strategic Thinking, followed by Execution Planning. I am a really big fan of Roger Martin's Play-to-Win framework, but what is super insightful is his Practitioner Insights on Medium, that deals with all of the problems that come with strategic thinking vs execution planning, and the trouble you create for yourself when you confuse them.
What's your approach to annual planning? How are you gearing up for 2024? I'd love to hear your tips...

Very impactful tutorial - well paced and relatable. I am interested in the apps you are using in the video, I really like the visual approach.
Oh, I’m very glad to hear that!
I’m using Whimsical as the main white board, but happy to share any specific tech you might be interested in! ✌️
You and coder coder have the best voices. I just enjoy listening to you talk. The subject not so much lol
Glad you enjoy it!
40 seconds in and it's hilarious as hell 😂 That depiction is on point, Layla.
I'm so glad you liked it. It felt ridiculous to film but...hey, that's UA-cam! 😂😂😂
What a great video, love it! Lots of useful tips :) Also, what is flowcharting program you are using?
I'm glad you found it helpful! We use Miro ☺️
Awesome video - thanks for that. Only the link to the article leads to a 404 page.
