KITTENS' LAST BREAKFAST (00:00)
After 54 days (~8 weeks), it's time for Cantaloupe and Baobob to find their forever homes. These two have stayed with me longer than expected since Cantaloupe was not gaining weight on schedule. They mostly ate wet food (which has less calories) and did not really eat the dry food until 6 weeks old. I'd often put down dry food and they would just stare at me like "WHAT IS THIS?"
RETURN TO SHELTER (01:07)
Luckily, the Manhattan ACC shelter they come from is quite close to me and I can get there door-to-door in 15 minutes using my electric scooter. As long as the weather is above 50F, I can generally scooter there without any issues. The backpack carrier just needs to be packed with blankets so they can stay warm for the ride. If it's too cold, the shelter has a program with Lyft where they grant free rides to and from locations if you have fosters with you.
JADE & COPPER DINNER (02:12)
Now that there is less responsibility this week, I can spend some more time with Jade and Copper. Jade is particularly more sensitive to this as I adopted her first, then started foster, and then adopted Copper in 2023. Copper goes out on walks 3-4 times a day, and she knows this is all time that is taken away from her. When we come back now, she sits by the door either waiting for us to come back, or trying to escape and join us outside too.
FIRST TIME PLANT DAD (03:32)
After three years in this apartment, I've finally purchased some plants to make it look more habitable. I purchased these starter kits on Amazon that give you an assorted list of pet-safe ones in these small 2" or 4" planters. Thanks to Perplexity.ai and ChatGPT, I can quickly ramp up on the basic knowledge of what tools I need, plant maintenance, and how to switch them to larger planters. In June, I have some time off work so this will be a fun project to work on.
