I found I had to use the UBUNTU (Safe Graphics) install mode on a few of these, they were mostly P600 or P2000 cards. The install process crashed just after showing the HP Sure Start splash screen, then corruption appeared on-screen. Using Safe Graphics mode always works, and I check the "Download Additional Drivers" option, too. I also had to turn on Virtualization in BIOS, and select "Legacy Enabled with Secure boot disabled option", or a VMX error is returned just after selecting the install mode.
Thx. Informative.
When I am trying to do this, after the try or install ubuntu button click, my workstation stays frozen on "Protected by HP Sure Start" screen without the ubuntu logo or a loader animation. Is there some bio configuration that might be missing? It also showed "Error: file/boot/ not found" too before the try or install ubuntu screen for a sec
Isn't this a really expensive workstation?
It can be, this was a refurbished workstation but even though it was constructed in 2018, up until last month it could still be purchased on the HP official website. Now their website has the postings of the Z4 G5. But this is still a powerhouse of a workstation.
This particular model had a Xeon 6 core 12 thread w2133 processor 32 GB of DDR4 ECC memory a half TB SSD. That price tag cost me $175 for really good condition. With an extra $60 off eBay, I got a pretty decent for gigabyte GPU to put in it as well.
That's a really good deal. It's certainly is a looker with great build quality. My IdeaCentre Gaming5 machine has somewhat similar specs except for the CPU which is a ryzen 7 5000 series 8 cores @@tesrteck
@@elhaya It was an exceptional deal! Even for a refurb. This was my Linux machine and I have a Windows desktop. Ryzen 7 3700X, 32 GB RAM, 6 GB GPU, 10.5 TB storage a mix of SSD and HDD.
