A cool trick to keep green stars polyps controlled is using aiptasia-X. Put a line of it on the edges of the GSP and they would stop growing in that directions for a little bit. It works on zoas too so I would be careful. This trick, however, works really well for my father and I and prevents our corals from being engulfed. Happy reefing!
Bought, will give this a try. Probably will pull out the rocks and wire brush the GSP off and try to re-establish a border!
Inappropriate Reefer It'll dissolve it and give it a nice clear border once you use it :) For the zoas who are kind of taken by GSP in your vid I would make a ring around them and use the Aiptasia-x on the rest of the GSP that you don't want. To protect the zoas you can tweeze the rest off them :)
Surround your main rock work with pieces of small rubble. As the gsp grows onto the rubble just cut that rubble free and replace with a new piece. Not to mention you then have a ready made frag.
You may not have landed on the moon but you're still a genius!
I loved the gsp I had in my 29 cube, but being inexperienced, had no idea how they would take over everything. I lost a lot of really nice zoa colonies because of them. So I don’t allow any into my tank now, too hard to control them. In your tank, the way you’re using them, is spectacular! Good luck! 👍🏻👍🏻
This is where it all started for me....20+ years ago...in this store!! . Just walked in one day after work and I was HOOKED for life! ....These lfs stores in Manhattan/ Queens /Brooklyn etc are amazing!!! Moved to New England and I still have to see ONE fish store with such an awesome presentation of fish & corals like the NYC and area lfs stores. They get some great stuff because of the close proximity to JFK . Making a trip to visit fish stores there is worth it folks.
& I love Green star polyps....thanks for the vid!👍
Great veiw love your dedication gave me the kick I needed. Thanks ✌🏻
Great video! Love the look of GSP, trip coming up in April to NYC. I'll be checking out the Manhattan Aquarium.
Great vid !
You have a good sense of humour lol :)
My tank NEEDS some GSP.
I thought that place was closed I went by and saw a lot of construction outside and next too it. Good to know that is open for sure in my next trip to NYU I’ll stop by
Use a dental tool next time the one that looks like a hook you get it at the tooth brush section at most stores. It really helps get soft corals off rocks. Love the channel.
Such Awesome Tricks of The Trade 👍🏼. Thanks for Sharing!
Best thing would be to remove the structure on the upper level temporarily and peel off all the gsp above and transfer to the lower level. Carpet upper level with whatever you want-zoas, palys, lps, etc. and leave gsp below.
LET IT GOOOOOO! 🍃 💙🐠
I’m going to have to get some GSP for my tank I had some in my last tank and it grew like a dream 🤗
Love the GSP turf...beautiful!
This video came up as a suggestion after I watched someone I'm subscribed to. Really enjoyed this I'm now subscribed to you. 😊
Helpful video, thanks. I didn't want green star polyps but I recently purchased a soft coral pack that had everything else I wanted except them so I'm looking up how to keep them contained in advance. They are pretty.
Awesome as always 👏
Great video as always man love the channel
Thanks man!
That was a nice store.. and thanks for the info on gsp.
Luv ur editing skills brother❤️👍🏾
Thank you for thos video and showing how you picked it off the rock i need to do the same!
I love your wife she brings such character to the channel. You both are the best!
Hi I really like your videos, can I ask you what filter do you have in this video? I saw you plugin and remove. The image is very nice, it removes all the blue. I'm trying to take some photos of my reef, I bought a lot of filters by none is like yours. Thanks
Looks like a grass!! Wow you have come a long way for this! Anways you could try hairy mushroom, it will look nice, will blend well with the grass look and yes prevent gsp from crawling up. Hoping to see "leave" part as the last time it was frogspawn. So ya Im hope it will look awesome! Good job!
Can you please tell me how you got your zoas to spread? I am struggling with them. They do grow but very slowly.
Great update. You'll need to find some kind of long terms solution to corral the GSP coral (pun intended, heheh) :D
Shout out to the camera 🎥 lady 👌🏾... great video man ur videos always make people feel happy when their done watching ✅
Cool update I like how Emily keeps taking off and putting on the gel filter lol. I might grab a frag of GSP from you for the Lagoon. Still waiting on you to visit the DC Studio
Maybe in a week or two? Let me know when you think it’s a good time to swing by 👍
Is there different types of GSP I just got some in my thank but the fingers are brown and centre white yours the fingers look bright green love your tank thanks for sharing
When it comes to night time lighting. Should you turn of the light completely, or use blue light for your green star polyps?
Wow. Great video - I just started my first saltwater tank and I have the GSP as well. I really like how it looks like a bed of grass.
Daniel Chan gsp is the easiest coral to keep ever
Can't it grow out of hand really quick? Just curious. Just started learning about reefing.
I picked up an angelfish from this store, thanks for publicizing it!
Nice video on pruning GSP. Next time I’d like to come buy a frag if possible!
Do you have sand substrate under the GSP or inside the tank?
GSP has always been on my wish list. Now I change my mind and want nothing to do with them. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated!
I have the same light for my new pico tank. What are your light settings and schedule?
I love the trips!
Very nice!
#hardcorereefsquad like always I love watching your videos every week

How hard would it be to just have gsp on my back wall (glass tank) and not any on the sand or rocks?
When you cut is it stil alive and do you kill it or replant in new place of flush down toilet, is this a plant or a kind of fish
I’m trying to grow a vertical GSP wall on my back black acrylic
I’ve had GSP grow right over the top of Euphyllia coral. Their stinging power is not enough to prevent the GSP to over take large colonies. Beware it takes a lot of hands on maintenance, I ended up just letting it take over half my tank, it looked really cool and I just kept it isolated by at least 6 inches from any other rocks. Took over the back wall too.
What would mantinance be like to have gsp on the back wall only...back it 3ft by 8ft...and nothing ealse close to it...there's room to work
I wonder if you grow the gsp carpet before you put any rock in or anything get it full place your rocks on top of the mat yes where you put the rocks would die but would they then grow over itself onto the rock or would it just be a dead spot in the colony and would it infect the rest of the mat? Might be a way to avoid the gsp take over
how many hours of light a day? and what temperature do you think they do best at
How long do you leave the whites on. Some of my gsp grows like a weed and some wont grow at all whats ur secret. Do you feed them or what ive been trying to get it to grow onto the back of my tank. Also is it pretty Harty to frag ive never tried i have a bunch on a frag rack. Could I just use a similar method to get it off?
What is your Cal and KH? I have one in my tank 1 year no spread
Please give me some advice
I put blue light only. What are the colours you have on this tank
NICE Video of Manhattan Aquarium .... Great job
Hi, i have tried several frags of GSP in my tanks, but they do not seem to thrive, the first few days i see the nice green polyps and then they just never show up, my parameters are well in control, can you plz help me on this topic
This is strangely satisfying to watch the carpet of GSP being scrapped off the back wall haha. Looks like you have a new project going on in the drop-off tank too with the coral skeleton. Neato!
Hey Ben, coming to the WAMAS meeting next Sat??
Inappropriate Reefer Yeah! Excited for our guest speaker.
how do u curb or kill it if it's encrusting the rock? what type of injection works?
I bought a large skin like piece of GSP and decided to cut it in half with razor it’s been like a week and the polyps aren’t opening is it dead?
I have a small rock with GSP covering it completely, if I put it against the back glass wall. Would it be able to grow on glass eventually?
What do you dose your tank with?
So my gsp and Kenya tree is dying , but my hammer and frogspawn are doing well. Any advice
What salt are you use?
I have the IQ 9 12 Gallon reef version.
Can you give me a link to where I can buy a light like the one you are using?
I need a smaller version most likely because my tank is smaller than this one.
how do you not get palytoxin? those zoas are so close to your bare hand
"I am still looking for a nice clam"
I dam near fell off my chair. Lol
hehehehehe
What kind of angler was that or frog?
Hey inappropriate reefer, big fan and I am starting up a reef off of a 30g established tank, any advice or frags you’re selling?
That's a sweet Wartskin Angler you got in there! I could barley see him at first. I love those guys! I bought a nice 2"x2" GSP frag 3 weeks ago and the damn thing wont open up! Tried it a few different places over the last 3 weeks and nothing 🙄 I dont get it!
2:39 “ look at this clam, I’m still looking for a nice clam” 🤣
Whats the best way to remove my sand and should I take out all my fish when I do it :(
What song is in the beginning?
Does the GSP grow on fine sand?
That fish makes me want to add extra fish to my life #mochi is beautiful !
What is that amzing looking thing in your hand at 11:32
Are you using very strong glue is that household glue
I have been to that store. Awesome place!
Now this is a good looking aquarium store!
Do you still have this tank
Also how is this tank looking it has been one of my favorites I
I know this is an old video and the tank isn't there anymore, but what happens if people make an edge with sand around a rock? Similar to our gardens.. Wouldn't that prevent gsp from growing onto rocks or any structures? This is why people do it on an island rock as it doesn't grow on sand, so makes sense?
Maybe you could make a thick kalk paste and kill some of them off.
I've read that it kills just about anything it comes into contact with. Maybe put a test piece in a separate container and see if it works.
Hey I've been following you for awile my gsp did great for awile water is great but there is some algae on that had grown on it and it kinda wiped out a rock that was covered can I use a toothbrush or any tips on how to bring it back
High flow will prevent algae growth on GSP. Hope you managed to save it--
Good video, one concern though: At 17:10, is your tank really bowing that much, or is it just the camera making it seem like it?
At the 4:00 mark I noticed the Fantasia Mickey hat. My wife bought that hat 16 years ago on out honeymoon! Lol.
You should get one of those razors ladies use for edging their eyebrows. I think that would be the perfect tool for making clean straight cuts because it has a handle and is designed for that. 👍🏽
Thanks for the tip!
Good Video! thank you
My gsp doesn't have long polyps, what could be happening?
What is the creature at 0:40? I can't see what it is
GSP is very beautiful & invasive 😁
I live in Manhattan and recently stopped by there since I switched over from freshwater to saltwater. Maybe things have changed since 6 years ago, but I was very disappointed! There were 2 employees and only one other customer in the store. I walked in and no one even said hello or asked if I needed help! I walked around the store and compared to other LFS I go to frequently, their tanks looked dirty and a few tanks had dead fish in them. I was there about 20 minutes and no employee ever approached me. I was very unimpressed and left. Drove out to NJ to my go to fish stores! Won't go back!
Hey, love the videos. What kind of light is that? Thanks.
Thanks man, it’s an ONF FlatOne Light
Hey man what is that white and red fish
AWESOME UPDATE. What were you popping on and off the lens? Also, Were you filming with a cell phone?
It was a brown photo filter (a.co/ewEOJdt); I was filming with a Sony RX100m5 for this video
Do you have a nice size carpet of gsp you are willing to donate to a new reefer??
Cool tank love the anglerfish is it venomous?
Are those just average metal tweezers you’re using? I get worried about using metal in the tank but should I not worry at all u think?
Standard metal over here. I figure as long as the metal is not soaking in the tank it should be OK if it is for a quick job?
What is the typical price of a GSP?
Hi I know this is a longshot but worth a try it's a comment on an old video you made about your Golden Torch I am new to the hobby about 3 months 4 months I had fresh water before for many years and moved house sold everything few years later got into marine tanks.my Golden Torch just died last night to the same thing as well Brown jelly such a shame. didn't know if you had any more information about how this is caused or why
Hey man, sorry to hear about your Gold Torch, when mine died from Brown Jelly it gutted me. From what I read, it's a bacteria infection (possibly from trauma or some sort of injury) and there doesn't seems to be a cure. Best course of action is to literally cut our losses. While people say it's brought on from injury, brown jelly could spread from head to head...
Galaxy coral will keep GSP in check if you put it at the base of your rocks.
What if you lifted up the rock like ,3/4inch and put it on small pieces of small clear acrylic tubes so the gsp grows under the rock and can't touch it. I don't think it will grow as fast when it goes under the rock and it will only touch the tubes. It will slow down on the growth cause it wound have the light or the flow! Just a thought , great video . Always look forward to your videos!!!
Good idea, esp with the light shaded the GSP growth may be slower
Inappropriate Reefer that was my thought. And the smaller the diameter tubes the less it will have to touch
can you try shipping coral if you did i would buy some.
I'm starting to grow a meteor shower cyphastrea backround instead of gsp like most. Should be pretty nice
If u ever use the razor blades be careful of them because here in the UK they are normally have a coat of oil on them to keep them fresh and stop them rusting but I'm not sure how they are over there
Good tip, thank you I will double check this
Duuuude what was that fish on your hand ?
What kind of fish was that you where holding in your tank? It was beautiful.
It's a Wartskin Frogfish =)
Bagus coralnya
