This is exactly and I mean EXACTLY how I feel. I'm a dry fly angler, not into tight line nymphing in the slightest, and I love large arbor click pawls. I also fish a Sage click and think it's the best on market...until this due to weight and better pawl material. In other words, ditto.
@@DenverSantaBarbara I did the purchase the Hardy, so now I have both that and the Click, essentially doing the same job! Can't say which is better, but they're both so pretty I can't let either go.
Enclosed cage => full cage. As noted in the video, the pawl (what is called the "click" in this video) is made of metal. This is a substantial change from its pawl/gear counterpart, the CC version of the DD (disc drag) line of Hardy reels. I had one of the CC reels, and I didn't have it very long before the plastic pawl (click, using the vernacular in this video) broke and needed replaced. The metal pawls used in this reel should last much longer than the plastic pawls. An added bonus is the outgo sound, with the metal pawl, should be substantially reminiscent of the classic pawl/gear sound. By the numbers this reel would be a perfect partner with my 3 and 4 rods, but I haven't found one in a local shop to check out. I am so close to taking a gamble and pulling the trigger on one of these, without handling one. So close...
Hi Richard! Thank for the comment, and yes, it does make a similar noise to the traditional click and pawl reels. I have the 4000, 3/4/5 as I prefer the larger size to go on my 9’9” 3#, but it also means I can put a traditional fly line on it if I wish… hope that helps!
I had the same scenario you described. I wish Hardy would make the CC version our of metal. I have had to replace clicker twice from Mike's Reel repair. Looking forward to the metal one on this new clickpaw UCL reel.

Hi there, if you are looking for a very light weight reel with a large arbour for small creeks then yes, this will do very nicely… it’s just a click drag, but you won’t need more than that…
Hi there-great video! Question...is that reel quiet when reeling line in and a click noise when line is stripped out? In your video you were reeling line in and the drag seemed silent or was that just special effects in the video. Thanks for the reply in advance. Hi Miroslav, thanks for the comment, I am using a 3/4 size as in my opinion it balances a 9’9” 3# a little better matched with a Rio Euro Nymph line....
Michael you really need a rod to do it properly as it’s often the fine balance between hand lining and lifting that makes the perfect drift and so effective. The other reason is just would not have the same feel as you do when holding onto the line. You can feel every little bump and knock as it goes over the bottom along with the takes.... you just would not get that fishing Tenkara...
They're made in the Far East (China/Vietnam/Korea) - as is most of the Hardy/Greys range these days. Even those few (e.g. my Hardy Duchess) which are 'Made in England' use some components made abroad.
Old ,, i.am still using my marquis no 8 and salmon 2 that I bought in 1972 nothing wrong both work perfectly. By the way you lot, Why on earth do most of you have your reels mounted on the rod the wrong way round. All Hardy reels were set up from the factory for right hand cast right hand wind . Reason is common sense. Let's see who can answer the question?
I too have some old Marquis and Golden Prince reels which I love! I can run into 20” rainbows and browns on my river, would this be a good reel or would you recommend a drag reel?
It does have drag. According to the Hardy website it has a Click Check type of drag.

Nope, you can use this for dry fly fishing as well… it’s just designed so it meets the needs of the Euro nympher as well…

Hi Joe, I don’t think so as it has no drag… I think you would be better off with a Hardy UDLA with a full drag system….

Not sure why people use fly rods for 'euro nymphing', might swell use Tenkara pole or similar. Seems little point in using a fly rod.
