  • House Construction - Day 1 of starting to frame the house. Day 1 we got a late start as our lumber showed up mid morning. We were still able to get all the sill plates put in place. Will try and put 2 videos up a week starting next week until the framing is done. So check Back often. Well try for Monday & Thursday.

It's a beautiful concrete basement. Is it a monolithic pour or a concrete block construction?

Thanks. I would have liked to do poured walls but no one in the area does it. We did the footings first, wider then most people do for block, Then placed the block and then poured the floor as we used a pump to pump it into the higher/ walk out side blocks and into the basement for the floor. There are other videos on the channel of the foundation construction.

@@ImprezaRS2002 In the captions of the series it keeps saying we and from what i can tell one person seem to be doing most all the work especially when it comes to the blocks. Its like one guy is working and the other guy keeps talking and stopping the one guy who is actually working.. I did love watching these videos thank you for your efforts and it did make it fun for me.

@@parkerbirch9374 I get what your saying now. ( Also missed some of the other comments on other videos) So I planned on doing as much of the work as I could on the house myself. There are some things the bank made me hire out and there where a few others I wasn't 100% on and didn't want to take a chance on doing myself. So for the blocks I'm from up north were we don't lay block we do poured walls. I don't own a set of forms or know anyone down here that I could borrow them from so I ended up hiring someone to do the block. A great guy can't say enough good things about him. He was an older gentleman so being a younger guy I felt/ wanted to make it as easy as possible for him. So in the first block video I was learning where he needed the block placed and other items so he can easily grab or get to them to make it as easy as possible for him and what the process was. He was also explaining how to lay the block, how he got into it, stories from around the area since he has lived his entire life in the area. He was trying to get me into the block laying business as he is the youngest guy in the area laying block and none of the local younger generation is/ was showing an interest in it. He said from the start he's not out to set any block laying records. I don't blame him lifting 30-35 lb for the regular 8x8x16 blocks all day is hard on the body never mind the 12x12's. So there were a few days I didn't show up busy with some other things and he would ask why I wasn't out there. He enjoyed having someone to talk to and someone to give him a hand as he normally is working by himself and with no one else around as there is no one is around during that part of the construction. In the later videos you'll see me help him out more by laying the blocks out for him, setting the blocks up onto the staging, moving the staging around.

@@ImprezaRS2002 Now I understand completely, you have a wonderful way with words and he liked having you around... I think most people would like having you around as a friend. You built an incredible home, made good friends along the way and video-taped for whoever wants to see. Thank you! The entire journey was interesting and educational and the reason i stopped watching network TV..

@@parkerbirch9374 I don't know about a wonderful way of words. But we were going back and forth sharing life/ building stories, differences between where we lived. I think it was a bit different as was out there to help him / get him what he needed and learn about laying blocks rather then just a home owner watching over his shoulder and Critiquing how it was done. Yes it really coming together slowly but surely. I started filming as I thought it would be neat/ cool to look back on and for my kids to have videos to show people when there older and they say that there dad actually built the house. It would also be cool if the house was ever to be sold to have that to show how it was built. I'm glad you enjoyed them and thanks for watching and taking the time to leave comments. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can edit some more videos and get them posted. I was able to do these during the rainy days but since we got it water tight there are no rain days/ free days as if its bad weather I can work on inside things.I would agree that's there is not that many interesting or educational programs on network TV these days.
