  • FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER: @JWhiteBBTV - / jwhitebbtv - In this episode Jeff will discuss the pesticides that he and BedBug Central are using in their bed bug treatment protocols. Please keep in mind that it is not his intention to sell anyone on a specific pesticide. There are many pesticides available that may have similar effects to the examples mentioned in this video and a company not using these pesticides does not mean they have chosen poorly. Also, most of the products mentioned in this video are intended to be used by pest control professionals. If a non-licensed individual decided to purchase any of the examples mentioned and apply them on their own, please follow all label directions carefully and review any laws that are specific to your individual state. For a liquid residual we are currently alternating service to service Transport GHP and Demand CS in an effort to optimize the effect of these products while trying to manage and resistance concerns. For dusts, we use Tri-Die and Diatomaceous Earth. Please watch the video for more information on why we chose each product and any concerns we have with each.

    Just did a level 10 bed bug job earlier today. First, vacuum up the live bugs on bed frame, mattress, and the entire box spring. Second, I used Cy-Kick pressurized insecticide into the box spring and behind the headboard and into screw holes of the bed frame. Third, I sprayed the undersides of box springs, the tufts of the mattress, the edges of baseboards (esp where carpet meets the floor), door frames and any other furniture in the room. Fourth, I puffed Alpine Dust into all electrical outlets and light switches. Fifth, I used Temprid FX at a .0075% dilution rate as a residual spray ha has two modes of action (two different chemicals that attack the bug in case of resistance). Lastly, I use PI aerosol and Alpine Flea and Bed Bug together as a broadcast spray application on all carpeted areas.

    you typically want to focus on where the carpet meets the walls, bed bugs will typically not be out in the middle of the room wandering around

    I do diatomaceous earth to dust under the mattress. The crown molding is heated with a hair dryer. I vacuum the room well. Wash the bed linens with Pinesol added. Now I fog the room with purple can Hot Shot foggers. Then I do a Harris mattress spray. I then use Crossfire to fan the whole house. I come back, shampoo bedroom carpet, then put the linens back on. I finally Crossfire the bedroom under drawers, around the mattress, & closets. Seems to work, but one or two may survive. Repeat in a month.

    transport has an active ingredient that is not a pyrethroid, temprid does also, as does phantom, the issue is that those 3 largely represent the only options we have that are not pyrethroid based

    Hi Jeff! Great video, but it leaves some concerns... From my understanding, there has been minimal evidence showing the effectiveness of Demand and other pyrethrins against bed bugs, as they can't be sprayed on the sleeping surface. Further, why use a number of different pyrethroid? Why not use a product that isn't pyrethrum based to deal with the chance of resistance...?

    Hi Jeff.
    If I'm here is because I have bed bugs, the first one I found it was at my front door of my apartment studio. I report to the property manager , a exterminator comp supposed to com on Thursday Oct 28 and they never show up. I got all prepare did all they requerment and now I'm all traumatized. I ask to talk to the property manager and she was rolling her eyes on me and she was not looking on my face as I was talking to her. I call the Chicago housing authority and I have an appointment set for Nov,9.
    I been taking care my situation , I have a plastic on top of my matress , since I did this I am sleeping better and I still waiting for the treatment.

    Bedlam is a supplemental treatment to be used in part with other residual treatments. Most professionals use Bedlam for it's labeling purposes. It states it can be applied directly to a mattress. I would never attempt to use it as the sole means of control.

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому +1

    it's really tough for me to answer such a broad question and tough for me to tell you what to do without seeing the infestation myself, in most instances you shouldn't have to wash all of your clothes but with bad problems it can be necessary at times, my first recommendation is always to hire a professional especially if it's as bad as you suggest, beyond that keep doing your research and hopefully you can get rid of the bugs sooner than later

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому +1

    steaming will not solve most bed bug infestations, steamers can be effective at killing bed bugs on contact but is only part of a program, many pesticides can work and the toxicity of many of the chemicals the pest control industry uses are low and if used consistent with label directions should pose a minimal risk in most normal circumstances, if anyone has additional concerns it's recommended to consult a physician with the MSDS sheets of the pesticides that are going to be used

    Hi Jeff. Great Videos! I've been to a couple of your seminars. They are always fantastic. Just a question in regards to alternate treatments. Have you tried using Zenprox EC yet for the 2nd treatment? I've done about 25-30 treatments this way and have found it has great results. As matter of fact the only treatments needing a third I found where from lack of prep. The only complaint I have is the 2oz. per gallon gets rather milky and leaves a non-discreate visual residual.

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому

    Hi Jeff..Thanks for prompt reply. Now when you say 'use both liquid and dust'..so if use temprid(liquid) along with tridie(residual dust)..should I AVOID applying temprid in cracks and crevices and apply TRIDIE in the cracks and crevices..Temprid instructions say we can apply temprid in cracks and crevices as well. Or should I apply both temprid and Tridie in cracks and crevices.

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому

    I would use both a liquid and a dust, they are different products for different applications, dusts for cracks and crevices and liquid for baseboards, etc... (of course following label directions), I can't comment on how many treatments you should do without seeing the infestation myself and the progress from treatment to treatment

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому

    steakandcheesesub pretty much explained my sentiments, Bedlam can be a fine choice as part of a bed bug treatment plan for some cracks, crevices and other areas that are difficult to treat due to human exposure concerns (surfaces of couches, etc...) but should not be relied upon to solve a problem

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому

    hey stuart, most believe that actisol machines play almost no role in bed bug control and may only make problems worse, of course there are exceptions and certain applications that can help but in most instances they may push bugs around and not get to where the bugs are hiding

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  12 років тому +1

    you should always check the label directions to see if it's ok to apply it in your home, no it's not "safe" to be breathed in, lungs and dust aren't a good combo, it's still a dust which isnt' good for your lungs regardless of whether it's natural or not, i still don't understand why you would want to eat diatomaceous earth but I guess to each their own, lastly why are so many exclamation points necessary after a sentence!!!!

We did temprid CS for our small apartment 2 br unit two weeks ago and two days before we put demand CS.We are sleeping very peacefully after this.My roommate spotted two very tiny bed bugs last week but i am sure with continuous treatment they would disappear.My question is, two weeks after Temprid cs first treatment and two days after second treatment(Demand CS),the black dots(bed bug eggs) didn't disappear on the baseboard and carpet intersection. If I see the black dots cluster, does it mean the eggs are still alive or they are just dead bed bug eggs?How do I know if these eggs are dead or they are surviving somehow our treatment?

    my comments are based on research from universities that found some of the non-pest control DE's are not effective on bed bugs, if you are going to make comments about it being good for bed bug control you need to have research to back your claims, "I put some on a bug and it died" is not research, I can't comment on every form of DE out there and the effectiveness of each but pay attention to who's making the claims before you buy in

      they are demonstrating high levels of resistance to pyrethroids, it doesn't mean the pesticide won't kill them, it just means they have a much higher tolerance and need to be exposed to much higher doses to have a negative effect on the bug, levels of resistance can differ from one population to the next

    Any thoughts on Cimexa vs Tri-Die? Gotta agree with you on the preference for Tri-Die for pragmatic reasons, but we haven't found any data comparing the two. Tri-Die would be better for the locations where we currently use Cimexa. I'm not sold on either product for mattresses. I suspect dinotefuran would do a great job for mattresses (we're aren't fans of Nuvan for odor and safety reasons, but it sure works well). Unfortunately, BASF hasn't gotten approval for mattresses yet, so we're still waiting on an ideal product lineup for our technicians. If we could use Tri-Die and PT Alpine Flea & Bed Bug in tandem, we'd have an easily deployed option for these jobs.

      this video actually needs to be re-shot, it's a bit outdated (on my list of things to do). I'm a huge fan of Cimexa as is much of the industry as researchers have shown it to be quite effective. There's nothing saying you can't use both dusts depending upon where and what you are dusting. We are not a fan of treating mattresses and use vacuums, encasements and interception devices on them/under them

      Buy a duster and Drione powder. I use 5 products and have help neighbors with infestation problems. These will last several years. DIY and save hundreds. Ask around here's a link store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/drione-dust-1-lb-bellow-duster

    can you ingest those pesticides with no side effects?

    • @BedBugCentralTV
      @BedBugCentralTV  10 років тому

      I would strongly suggest not ingesting pesticides, always follow the label directions and almost all are not for human consumption

  • @BedBugCentralTV
    @BedBugCentralTV  11 років тому

    depends on which trap and if you are trying to determine if bed bugs are there or capture large numbers of bugs, research has shown interception devices will detect 90% or better low level infestations over the course of 2 weeks, we have had some success with Verifi but it's a product intended for professionals, there are many others, you just gotta do your research

      Bed Bug TV ... couldn't you just use a small paper cup under the bed frame legs? Seems just as effective.

    Hi Jeff for the nice video. We are in apartment and have spend two thousand already on bedbug treatment company that was preferred by the apartment company which did poor followup service. All we got after their treatment was bedbugs that look much more bigger. To contain cost , we want do on our own carefully following the instructions. Between the liquid residual and Dust treatment which one you would suggest we choose? How may treatments we should do?

      I can't really comment whether it works or not but in a study performed at Rutgers University that was published in PCT it didn't perform very well, if you google "pct rutgers all natural sprays" you can find the paper and read it yourself

      Shavon Zsitkovsky safe is a word we avoid using in the pest control industry as anything used inconsistent with it's directions can have negative effects (i.e. ibuprofen, antiobiotics, bleach, etc...). Many pesticides commonly used by the pest control industry or found on the shelves in your local stores, if used consistent with label directions and in a responsible fashion, should have little to no effect on humans in an average situation, you could also consult your physician with what you plan on using and the MSDS/SDS forms of that pesticide and ask them if you should have additional concerns

      I've used Hot Shot witch seemed to work well but I ordered 2 13oz Crossfire so well waiting for it I hit everything with Hot Shot bed bug killer and used with diatomaceous earth witch does kill them but I don't believe Hot Shot last much over 48 hours and the powder doesn't work fast enough for me . So hit everything with crossfire about a week later i still seen some so we bagged everything up and took it to the laundromat vacuumed as best as possible with what we had and I treated the house again and this time I hit my bedroom hard from about 3 feet up the walls around the base the carpet the bed and let it dry some was still damp when we got back from the laundromat and there was damp spots on the floor the next morning and that was 2 days ago I didn't see any signs for about 6 to 8 hours since I've seen a few small ones that are dead or dying and the same with the adults they are still dying witch I think I'm going to order more and do it again in a few weeks and from now on this is my go to the couch was the worst witch I hit it hard each time and so far I haven't seen anything in 2 days and I hope it stays that way. Crossfire fron what I've seen works

      Yea I don't know if you can get it there but its worth the try forsure I ordered it Thursday night because I work 3rd shift and I had it by Saturday afternoon so it was just over 24 hours. So far it seems to still be working I check my bed every day when I get home because my dog and car sleep I it and I think my dog was bringing them upstairs from the couch that was infested bad and after 2 treatments witch the 2nd one I got some help cleaning up and vacuuming I find one here and there and there dying if not dead where before by now if I seen any they would be moving around so it seems to keep working on them days after the treatments
