Yes that is Finn protecting you! My horse I used to have (she sadly died) protected me the same way. There was a fight between these two horses of mine and I was young and didn’t know what to do, she stood in between me and them and nudged me along with her head to my parents and stayed with me so I would be distracted from the other horses I miss her so much. 💔

My black lab wont go into the water because he drowned when he was like 4
although he was behaving really well with the potty training in the beginning, as a new puppy he was more focused on exploring than doing his natural thing. yes, he is still exploring and getting to know his new home and owners, but he has became more comfortable in that environment. which is great besides the accidents in the house. he is understanding that your home is his home. the accidents will eventually wear off and potty training will be effective. i have dogs of my own and through all the them, this is one of the many thing they have in common. not all the dogs are the same but the likelihood of this being the reason of his accidents is a 99.999%. congratulations on your new puppy and thank you for giving a safe and loving home.

When James talks about Finn protecting him, that is what happened with my dogs. Your dog that is older, and you have trained your older dog he/she feels superior and then wants to help you and is giving you a favour!
My cat once stole a slice of pizza from my plate, my dog went and got it and legit put it back on my plate lol I was like..er thanks xD

I got a black lab about a year ago and I found that the easiest way to get him to enjoy the water and actually want to be in it was playing fetch in the water. Like standing on solid ground when you throw it so the dog makes the decision to go in himself. It did take a while for him to be super confident but now I have more of a problem keeping him out of the water cos he loves it so much. Hope this helps :)

@@yairfield1306 I'm not an expert put I know cocker spaniels were bread to be gun dogs like labs, so fetch is probably something that would work for a cockadoodle, especially as poodles were (arguably) bread as water dogs. If it doesn't end up working lmk and I'll ask my bro as he's a dog psychologist. Bare in mind it took my dog about 2-3 weeks of daily visits for to be happy to go in with no hesitation

Something to keep in mind if you don’t want a super clingy dog is make sure they’re not allllways in your arms and in our bed and letting them follow you into the bathroom in stuff. I used to train dogs in a rescue so that’s just a tip from what I know 💕💕

Tip: to get them used to water take them to a beach where the can walk in, or something like that. If they can walk in whenever they want then they feel more comfortable and can walk in as deep as they want. Another thing is that it’s normal for the older doggy to train the pup. It means they are kind of helping them adapt and teaching them how things work! They also get very defensive, but seems like Finn is adapting great!
Congrats James ! They are both such good boys and you are doing a great job. I have two labs myself and they are amazing companions!

The peeing inside problem... You have to let a this small puppy outside like every hour + every time he has eaten, every time he drank water and every time after playing (for example) with Finn. He don't know that he is not allowed to pee inside yet. This takes months to train. After when he grows older you will be able to see when he needs to go to the bathroom and so. You should also give him good treats when he goes pee and poo outside. Hope this helps❤️

There are so many rescue dogs in shelters who need a loving home and have had a really rough start to life. They have so much love to give, my dog is a rescue and he's an absolute sweetheart! A lot of puppies come from puppy mills or are inbred due to desire for "pure breeding". Quite often shelter dogs will be killed if the shelters become overcrowded.
Still everybody has their own choice if they want to get a puppy from a shelter or from a breeder. It’s more or less the same thing with adoption, there are many many great kids who need loving families but that does not mean that everybody has to adopt instead of having their own.

I help the dog Likes The other Puppy
Use a small children's pool or your hot tub without the heat to introduce your dog to the water. While on leash toss a special toy into the water. If she/he is still reluctant you can take a high-value treat and lure her/him in, placing the treat by her/his nose and praising and rewarding for any attempt to step into the water. That's what I found helped me get my puppers into the water :)
This is not only for James but for anyone who needs it :)
DOG TRAINER here:
Potty training is important for a puppy his age. He’s 8 weeks, so 2 months.. meaning you must take him out every 2-3 hours. Especially if he has access to water all day long. Even if he doesn’t “seem” like he needs to go take him out and don’t take him back in until he’s gone potty. When he goes praise him so he knows what’s good behavior.
To introduce the POOL:
Get a fun toy he is driven for and play with him outside of the pool for a few (3-5) minutes.
Then go into the pool and you can bribe him with the toy. It’s difficult to explain through message, but I would youtube up several videos on how to get your dog to like the pool.
His breed is amazing for swimming.
PUPPY BITING:
When this begins due to teething, you’ll want to replace him biting something he shouldn’t be with something he should be biting, such as his toy. You want to take the toy whenever he’s biting your hand, feet, pants, or furniture and pat it on floor or close to where his eye sight is and when the attention is redirected to the toy praise him. Say “Yes!! Good boy!”

To help with potty training, give him a treat every time he goes outside, try and go outside the same door each time you bring him out, if he goes in the house take him outside immediately after and make sure your taking him out every two to three hours while he’s still a puppy. Also if you have puppy pads or use them. If he pees on the floor. Soak it up on the puppy pad and place it outside or near the door to where he goes out. Then clean the area. They go were they can smell their ammonia :)

Puppies usually don’t like swimming at a young age, if you take them to a lake or beach they enjoy running around in the water 😊 and will warm up to water eventually
