Thanks. After four batches, I have yet to have this problem. I am picking up the EPDM gasket because they don't stain like the silicone ones.
They should finally stop selling stuff with silicone. EPDM is better and at 1000+ it shouldn't raise the price anyway
Thanks for sharing this, so frustrating!! I just recieved my BrewBuilt X3 yesterday and it seems like they are now shipping with all black EPDM seals instead of silicone. Thank goodness! The 8 inch seal was twisted/looped once to make it just half the size smaller in the back of seals. So far it is fitting size wise pretty well but I'm still waiting for it to flatten a bit before saying it's perfect. Some of the accessories kits did still have the clear silicone seals.
The video I’ve been waiting for since you asked about my experience, cheers! I’ll be placing an order for an EPDM seal for sure.
Yeah I couldnt remember where I spoke to you lol I was going to send you a message, sorry about that mate!
@@HomeBrewNetwork all good! I knew you’d just be making sure you had given it a proper go first.
This fermenter is sick!!! I have my own brewery let me share a hack for big ass seals 😂😂 just spray starsan on both side of the lid . Place the seal as close as posible to the creases .close the lid and wiggle till you hear a bloob sound and it is seal perfectly
Yeah I did try that, and yep sometimes it works! Still fiddly though and more trouble than it should when it could easily be solved with a better seal.. Cheers!
You have way more patience than I do lol!!!!!
The impatient parts were cut out mostly, censored is probably a better word lol
@@HomeBrewNetwork I will be buying something similar in about a year. I am sure it will be fixed by then :) I did a little purchase with your link the other day (Sorry i always forget) so hopefully helps.
Is that top flange even and flat? Have you laid a straight edge across it? Or laid the cap on it without the gasket to see if there is any warp?
Yeah it's fine
Kinda glad I have my Spike conical with their clamped lid and smaller 4” port on top… no headaches whatsoever.
Yeah its the clamps that all the companies have had issues with, big problems the last year or two across many companies.. I had issues with one brand, not Brewbuilt though. This one wrks great with the right seal! Cheers!
Very good cheers
Gday Gash, had my x3 - 53 lt for 6 weeks now and on my 4 th brew. Had the same problem with original assembly. Took 10 minutes tp get right. After putting on clamp I noticed that there was some gaps between the clamp and the lid, however final assembly it held pressure 14psi. After first assembly had no issues. I love this fermenter. Need to watch the prv as pull ring can hold valve slightly open.
Mine has sat with the original seal in for weeks to try and get it to work right, but as you see in this video which stretches over 3 months that it never got better, with the new seal its just fine! Cheers!
I bought a BUNA gasket replacement. It’s a bit stiffer and has works easily for me.
Will look into it, I just ordered 2 more different ones
@@HomeBrewNetwork Do an update video 👍
É uma terapia ocupacional tentar montar isso 😂
hahaha I needed therapy after it ! lol
For large seals I try a sticky keg lube on one side and a slippery keg lube on the other.
Why on earth they didn't make the seal lipped on the outer edge is beyond me. All that expense and to have to deal with this? I had one in the cart to buy. Now I'm reconsidering.
It's still the best option for a stainless fermenter by far. Cheers!
I'm pretty sure you can buy lipped tri clamp seals, I wonder if one of those would work 🤔
I guess if the lip of the equipment is parallel to the seal placement it might very well help!
Cheers get yourself a drink 🍺🍺🍺🍺
Needed one hahaha Cheers!
As much as I know kegland do their engineering, sometimes their qc doesn't take practical usage into account. I've been looking for a unitank but will wait for the 6mth review - particularly over summer
This isn't a Kegland product, brewbuilt stuff is the best there is, it's just this dodgy seal included..
So, the seal just sits on top and isn't like a channeled seal...eg: like the seals on a 3 pot?
Yeah it's a proper "channeled" seal
i'll buy your x1 anyday mate
I sold it when I got the Cheeky peak crap, and regretted it ever since! I still got the X2 though :)
Could you get ptfe seal? I use a ptfe seal on a 4 inch TC and it works well.
Could try I guess! Cheers!
Just checked, they arent cheap $60+ dollars, I'll keep looking though.
@HomeBrewNetwork what size is the seal? 6 inch?
@@NaughtyGoatFarm 8inch
@@NaughtyGoatFarm I found a cheaper ptfe one, without the epdm in the centre.. have ordered one to try
Don't you hate it when you tighten those tri clover clamps and the thread sounding noise grates on your last nerve, Gezz I hate that. I feel your pain mate. Cheers from Adelaide 🍻🦘👍.
Crunchity, crunchity lol
Nah, It's a manufacturing flaw in my eyes and they would need to rethink/design that lid before I would even consider a purchase. 😉
its the seal material used... they just should of used a different material seal... lathes turning channels in metal aren't often wrong!
The strength of a chain lies in its weakest link
Just a bad choice of seal. Mines absolutely fine with the other seal! Cheers!
I was getting frustrated just watching you try to do it.
The amount of swearing that was cut out.. lmao
I bought a x2 and still can’t get it to seal. I’m now throwing out my second beer due to air contamination and am now considering buying an SS or Brewtools fermenter. I think the Brewbuilt fermenters are just Chinese shit
Ha well careful what you wish for all the other brands I've tried have been a lot worse! Good luck on your search! I had no issues what so ever with X2, Cheers!
You know major problem if you had one with the locking ring thing is the actual locking ring, as far as I know most if not all of these companies had issues with them, there's a company here that sent me fermenters and they had the worst ones. but I know that they weren't made in the same place the fermenter bodies were made and the company had a shit ton of issues trying to get more to replace the ones that wouldnt work, the company in the end stopped answering my emails ... Though did you try modding the locking ring? cutting a bit off the end so you can do it up a touch tighter?
@@HomeBrewNetworkwas that with those cheeky peak ones that they no longer sell? Nano x2
@@Wind_Ninja_Jubei yep and it was just the locking rings, one of mine worked the other didn't, the spring metal was bent to the shithouse, I couldnt bend it back.
@@HomeBrewNetwork Thanks for the info, you have never let me down. Decided to order one from kegland instead of getting a clamp type. I am glad I waited a few years seems there has been allot of changes in a short time. I have been slowly putting a few dollars aside since you started using this type of gear a few years ago. I used your link so hopefully you get a kick back. I also ordered one of these seals using your link. Figured I get it ahead of receiving my order from kegland.
Looking forward to your next video and other tips and feedback on this fermenter.
