Tips: -put the mic close to the mouth -stop moving around when you are talking -place yourself close to the people -make good questions, let them speak , dont interrupt every 15 seconds. any ways, cool vid!
So he can basically say some variant of "You are from ____? I speak ____. Can you understand it? I would love to go to _____, maybe we can have a beer there" in about 20 languages.
To be fair, his language skills varies language to language - he's clearly very confident in Tagalog and Portuguese which are featured here, but his Mandarin and Cantonese skills are limited. And I struggled to understand his Mandarin as his tones are waaaay off (Chinese languages are tonal, which is often a challenge for white people who are not used to this aspect of the language) and he needs a wider range of vocabulary - like he uses 'hao li hai' for everything which is like, oh come on, there's more than one way to express the concept of "that's great/good" or "alright" and hao li hai can mean like 'that's awesome' or even 'you're awesome' but he uses it to describe himself sometimes and I would find that inappropriate if a native speaker did that (self-praise is a no-no) but I can forgive him as a foreign speaker who is not using the most appropriate term. However, as a fellow polyglot, yeah, it's impossible to be fluent in every language you speak - you'll be fluent in some of them and get by in others, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be afraid to use those foreign languages that you're not fluent in. However, for the purpose of UA-cam, perhaps it was a mistake to try to do stuff in Mandarin which is struggles in (and he admits that in the video) - the Tagalog and Portuguese were impressive though. Mandarin is a bloody difficult language to master as a European and he's trying his best.
How many languages can you? I think he's got better than that in quite a few and still beginning to learn others. One of the big issues with language acquisition is people feel insecure about speaking it until they get "good enough," and they can't get "good enough" without actual conversational practice. He'll get much better much faster by going out and speaking to people, even if he has to initially keep conversations very simple and makes many mistakes. English is my first language, but I speak a little German and Spanish, and I'm currently learning Cherokee. Outside of Spanish, there's literally no one I can speak with in person where I live, but I make a point to try to use German and Cherokee in online conversations regularly. I'm sure in a few years I will look back on stuff I've said now and find tons of errors, especially with the Cherokee polysynthesis, but all that will mean is I'm improving, and the year after that it will be the same.
@@gymnastalexliang I agree completely, I'm learning Mandarin at the moment (Not that far in yet) but the grammar appears to be really simple yet the tonal side of things is very tough. If you want to see another channel check out this guy, he speaks Mandarin and Cantonese very very well (Check him out here ua-cam.com/video/63hB5ZthbP0/v-deo.html) - He's one of the reasons I started learning Mandarin, I love the reactions he gets when people realise that he speaks it fluently. Super super impressive.
@@BennyDACHO That's the problem with being an polyglot. Too many languages. It would take a lifetime to master each and every language unless you're incredibly skilled at it (like incredibly incredibly, miles beyond what even the 1% are good at) - My question is; is it better to master a few languages and have better conversation with those you do talk to, or is it better to know a lot about a lot of languages and connect with a lot more people but be less proficient in speaking? (Not a rhetorical question at all, I think either answer is good)
@@BennyDACHO The definition of a polyglot is "knowing or using several languages" - It doesn't imply that they are proficient in their use. I personally would rather know a few fluently than a load with imperfection, but it's subjective, everyone has a different preference.
It's a quite simple language to learn. You might say the tones are difficult to master for speakers of non-tonal languages. And he of course totally failed at mastering them.
When you speak, YOU use the mic. When They speak, They should get the mic. You forget to put the mic on their side when they.are talking. Also, as an interviewer, give them a chance to speak, dont interrupt. My 2 cents, snap je ah matti?!
This is my first time on this channel, I am from Hong Kong, didn’t expect someone from Europe can speak so many languages even Cantonese, one of the most difficult language in the world(imo) I was amazed by your talent.
I mean, he has an impressive amount of languages under his belt, but as a Chinese speaker, I have difficulty understanding his Chinese as he is butchering it and repeating dumb phrases like "I love you" "let's go drink beer." Albeit, Chinese is pretty difficult.
That's the thing when you're trying to learn Chinese and actually communicating to Chinese people, they tend to always praise you and, I have nothing against praising someone or motivating them to keep learning, but with that also comes the lack to improve one's self, hence being cocky about it
@@rob_patrick1 The secret is if they praise you they are trying to end the conversation and get away. If they talk with you, then your mandarin is good enough to be understood.
Ryan Martin very true! I’d rather talk with him in english about more real issues, instead of listening to his shattered Chinese full of simple greetings. That’s why we always praise foreigners trying to chat with us on subway or tourist spots in shattered Chinese. we compliment, we say goodbye quickly and feel relieved.
His tagalog is sloppy too but it wasn't hard to understand, he just kinda butchers the pronunciation although it is understandable because of his accent
His portuguese wasn't so good, and also the subtitles are wrong. He actually didn't understand some things the Brazilian guys said, and the subtitles kinda create a little dialogue between them that didn't really exist lol
This guy litterally put a smile on my face through the whole video the way he speaks others people languages so well and have good conversations with them makes me happy 😁
He speaks very well, but he made some mistakes with the subtitles. Like the brazilians said that they actually dont like football as they are DJ's but the guy ignored it to go on with the conversation. Don't want to hate just pointing it out. Overall great video.
Dude, I speak Portuguese and I can tell you guys for sure the subtitles for Portuguese are missing a lot of stuff... Where did all that conversation end up in? This is so heartwarming!! :) I wish there were many people like you, a bridge between different cultures so that there might be less ethical conflicts around the world... (Of course it’s not that simple yet you can’t hate people if your friend’s from that country and you know their language.) I’m a trilingual speaker of Japanese (1L), English (2L), and Korean (L3) and it’s kind of rare to be even bilingual here in Japan so I didn’t use them or tried to improve them at all over 6 years because I was “good” in those two languages in a Japanese standard. (Which is probably required higher these days different from my generation.) Those two things were what I’d been spending most of my life putting so much effort (because I enjoyed it) but I ruined it by being arrogant and lazy. For years I believed that the fact that my English deteriorated from one point was all my environment’s fault (to be stuck in non-English speaking country).........but your video made me realize I can work harder again life like my old self if I truly desire to be connected with people like that!! That joy I had forgotten for too long...thanks, I’ll give it a try all over again!! (I’m not old but youth was gone lol inner self never gets old, refreshed every morning!!)

How to speak Mandarin
Teacher: Repeat after me "O Li Hai"
This dude: Sick got it. Catch ya later.
Cantonese is a very hard language to master. Even though he had an interesting accent I was really blown back by his abilities to communicate
yo u should check laoshu50500 channel. this dude has crazy skills in many languages and speak fluent mandarin and cantonese
Huy Thanh Lmao not really the dude knows how to introduce himself and say “I’m self taught” in 20 different languages
It's a quite simple language to learn. You might say the tones are difficult to master for speakers of non-tonal languages. And he of course totally failed at mastering them.
"speaks Chinese because hes Asian"
"Speaks Japaneses instead"
"Oh SH we failed"
Ahh??. Japan is also is in asia right.
i'm not surprised the first girl couldnt respond. it is very rare for filipino americans to speak tagalog
but we all can speak english!

He's Dutch doe
How to achieve tagalog accent speak slowly and stay calm
He's just not talented. Only motivated lol.
2:19 the translation is wrong
he said "i don't like football, my thing is Dj" instead "ofc i do love football"
"Of course i do love footbal :) " Such stereotypical thing to ad knowing he doesn't like it, i do understand portuguese btw.

It's my plan to make more foreign languages prank videos and social experiments.
do exactly this, very entertaining!
When you speak, YOU use the mic. When They speak, They should get the mic. You forget to put the mic on their side when they.are talking.
Also, as an interviewer, give them a chance to speak, dont interrupt.

Yesssss! Omg I heard that too, ahah!
His tagalog is sloppy too but it wasn't hard to understand, he just kinda butchers the pronunciation although it is understandable because of his accent
Wouter: Are you half Filipino?
Girl: I did se a few Filipinos here but not alot
Wouter: Yeah :)
In what world does that make any sense?
Yeah he was being nice so she wouldnt get flustered probably lol
She is Indonesian, the country near Phillippines.
I'm Indonesian
She obviously wasn't fluent and misunderstood his question
He is being nice and didn’t correct her.

girl: the indonesian

You killed me when you spoke in Hebrew! Awesome man and a-lot of respect from Israel :)
This mans accent when he speaks english sounds like the weird Italian accent idubbz does
Mans got a heavy heavy heavy dutch accent.
It's awesome how once you speak their language it's almost like you are immediately friends.
His portuguese wasn't so good, and also the subtitles are wrong. He actually didn't understand some things the Brazilian guys said, and the subtitles kinda create a little dialogue between them that didn't really exist lol
Same with his tagalog...
Shut the f**k up. His multilingual skills are overall amazing. How many languages can you have conversations in b**ch???

This guy litterally put a smile on my face through the whole video the way he speaks others people languages so well and have good conversations with them makes me happy 😁

Bryan Chi Music “holy hi”
He speaks very well, but he made some mistakes with the subtitles. Like the brazilians said that they actually dont like football as they are DJ's but the guy ignored it to go on with the conversation. Don't want to hate just pointing it out.
Overall great video.
Reactions like those are priceless. You need to make more videos like this!!!! Very Entertaining!!!

it's truly a joy seeing their faces light up every time the interview starts speaking in their native language xD
Dude, I speak Portuguese and I can tell you guys for sure the subtitles for Portuguese are missing a lot of stuff... Where did all that conversation end up in? I mean... a BIG part of it just didn't show up on the subtitles (there were even some mistranslations). I ask myself whether this happened to the other languages shown too XD
it happened for sure
what language do you speak? I'm just curious to know about it, if you don't mind XD
I'm spanish and I could tell too xd
Yes, and he uses the word "mirar", it is Spanish, in Brazil we say "ver".
@@thiagonascimentodasilva3888 really? That's interesting, we use both in spanish but mean different things
The 1st one:
Him: Are you half Filipino?
Her: i saw few Filipinos around
