Is there a way I can use R-Works without the BN-20 printer? I have a Roland BN-20A and I would like to try R-Works but I don't see anywhere on the internet where to download it.
Roland R-Works was not included with your BN-20A because they quit updating and supporting it many years ago. The installation file was always packaged with the BN-20 driver installation CD-ROM so you would need to find that installation program or cd image if you wanted it. They quit including the CD-ROM installer about 2 and a half years ago so you could try asking anyone that has owned a BN-20 for longer than that for a image of the cd-rom.
Can the BN-20 print on 5mm PVC? I'm looking to make 5mm PVC photo booth props. The printer needs to be able to print and cut 5mm PVC. If the printer can't cut it, not a problem, I will just cut them out. Thanks

confused about eco solvent... is that just regular inkjet printer ink (like pigments or dyes from an epson), or is it completely different? i want a machine that can make stickers without the drama of inkjet sticker paper that is basically just photo paper with sticker backing (it smudges, scratches and is a complete waste of money). i want stickers like what you buy at the store or something, not from etsy users who all exhibit the same smudge/scratch issues.
You have had issues with water based inks. If you allow solvent inks proper time to dry its not an issue with the CMYK. If you want it to last outdoors ( no bleaching from the sun and weathering from the elements) then a small layer of laminate over the top is recommended to really increase the durability of your print.

is thick media supported? i'd like to experiment with making "pseudo" enamel pins. this machine does metalic, so a fake gold might be in order.. the media is shrink film. it doesn't come in rolls, so i'm wondering if i can use a carrier sheet (that's the thickness), but the actual print media shrink film is about as thick as normal paper, definitely thinner than walmart printable cardstock. i'd have to use targeted printing (manual placement of the sheets on the carrier.) hoping that since this is solvent ink, baking the prints for shrinking doesn't affect the colors much (especially the metalic). it would be better if i could print directly to the sheets after they are baked and then use a CNC to cut them out, but that would be too thick as it would collide with the head for sure.
You could possibly try that but I imagine feeding in sheets could be pain depending on the flexibility of the substrate and backer. The machine demands to be roll fed, so you will have to leave the media bar and flanges loaded into the machine so feeding the sheet could be a pain. I don't think you would have an issue with the thickness of the paper but including a backer could cause an issue. I personally have not toasted any Solvent ink myself, but before you laminate or anything you want to allow the ink to air out for 24 hours so I would recommend doing that too. You could reach out to a sales agent and send in some of that media to use to take a look at. Just give them a call or shoot an email over to SALES@USCUTTER.COM to set that up.

@@mhb207 Its not really doing what I need but its not the machines fault. I print a lot of Gray and with all machines grays are hard to print correctly. I should have gotten a UV printer but big cost difference. However with that being said, the machine does print and cut great for all other needs.
I don’t think you actually completed a single coherent instruction anywhere in this video! You jump from one feature to the next and never just show the damn step by step process of how to create, print and cut a simple image! ADD much? I feel like I have a $6000 paperweight that is way more complicated to use than it needs to be. Just like Adobe illustrator, the worst program on earth and OF COURSE this stupid machine works “best” when used in conjunction with adobe illustrator. FML

You can use Vinyl Master to create files to use with the BN-20 but everything will need to go through Roland Versaworks to print.

No. The big selling point of this machine is that you can set it up and run it easily without having to have a technician come out.

No, it uses Eco Solvent ink.

Yes. You would just have to use a thinner material with no welds or grommets. All of that would need to be added afterwards.
