- Installed a RAM AIR intake and this happened...
Installed a Ram Air intake manifold on the Tillotson 212-powered Doodlebug minibike to see if it would make any difference in performance. Did a 0 to 30 and Top speed run.

I would definitely say Rich up the mixture and try again. All that air was really leaning it out
Yes, I will do that. Im going to try again for top speed.
Best to run a lil rich don't want to over hear the valves
@@raz1987a if retarding timing was an option ,that becomes a non-issue.
Less fuel poured on a fire can't burn hotter than more fuel that's closer to the correct amount.
@@MrTheHillfolk running rich has nothing to do with timing it's all in the carburetor and retarding timing is more for boasted application .. 28° is the known best timing for the Honda clones so youer reverse the timing key to retard the timing from 28°
@@MrTheHillfolk that is all so not including adjusting the internal trimming of the camshaft.. kartworks twister is abut the only tool out there I know off that can do that
Love your new “science bike” series! Might as well give the community what they ask for, it’s great entertainment. Keep up the evolution of the channel, I’m having fun!
A friend found some corrugated tubing and fabricated one on my 4-cyl truck, which drew from a hole in the lower air dam/chin spoiler, and connected directly to the factory air cleaner's intake snorkel. Can't say what difference it made on acceleration, but it certainly helped improve fuel efficiency... getting 25-mpg going 75-80MPH cruising down to Bowling Green, KY from Chicago. And this was with TBI and an automatic transmission!
Love the empirical data, you are doing a great service to the minibike community. Couple suggestions, having worked with ram air on muscle cars. 1. use a 5 or 10:1 intake size inlet. 2. Put it as high as you can off the ground, you will suck up cig butts, tons of sand/dirt, and even small birds at times (not a joke, I've pulled multiple birds out of my ram air setup on a muscle car). You would be better served to put a pipe up to the handle bar with the biggest vacuum attachment that fits to catch the most air. Don't know if you re-jetted but I'd think that would needed.
Thanks for all the info man.
Wahoooo thank you Mr. 66
I'm curious about the jetting too. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have an idea for a fun video. Try the long intake with the ram intake and the super long exhaust
I just love it!! It worked, made your bike even faster,I hope you do a jet change to match all that air coming in and show us the gains too.
We had a fun day. Thanks for the video let me know when when we are riding again, I am thinking Oatman Donkey town. Banger Bikes, Thanks
Ram Air leaned it out at WOT.
I was thinking the same thing 🤔
I'm glad you took that long pipe off that bike. Very good experiment, though! Us bike engineers have tried everything, over the last 120 years.
Vent the float bowl to intake just before the carb?
No ram air effect. The slight improvement was simply due to foam air cleaner versus no air cleaner. Easily confirmed by running your "ram air" setup by turning the last elbow to face backwards.
You got that right. But it was fun trying. Check out the playlist for many more bikes and engine combos. thanks for watching! ua-cam.com/video/9KE9e-3KHrU/v-deo.html
For a true test, take that screen off, it distorts airflow massively. Then rich up the fuel mixture like Andrew says.
I like it! Where do you come up with these ideas! LOL Can't wait to see the next video 💯💯❤
Deff the main is lean. Good luck, Sir!
I wanna say try welding them together before trying them out, but your video are 💯
Need a WB02 sensor on it to tell if its too lean/rich w the "ram air". . Would be another good data point. I use an RC lipo bat. so you could use the same sensor/setup on all your bikes.
🔥🔥
Finally got my MB200 r
I have a pvc pipe elbow on the 24mm carb on my mini bike with a 225 on it. A thin sponge soaked in old with a hose clamp holding it on. Works great.
Great info, what’s your take on my first mini bike kit, the Azusa 3450 or the Taco 357? Also have you experienced any gas cap access issues with the Predator 212 on either of the above frames. Trying to decide between the kits and the Titan 6.5 hp or Predator 212. Thanks. Great videos
I have both. I like them both but the Taco is my favorite. You can see it on the video coming out this Saturday. No gas cap issues on either. Check out the Azusa bike playlist ua-cam.com/video/ONJbFaEecQM/v-deo.html
Love it love it wow man nice 😮😮😮
Still seem to have quite the lag out of the hole. With that large flat slide carb you should try to maintain intake velocity manually by not just flooring it but rolling it on. A vacuum operated carb with an accelerator pump would help but it won't work with ram air.
It looks like something Dr.Suess invented, a high velocity hornswoggler.
Hey fellla great idea try turning your intake pipe facing front.i bet it will be even better
Check out the 7-foot exhaust video. ua-cam.com/video/hK42YGn7yXY/v-deo.html
Mount the curve to the engine and the carb paralley for a more direct air flow and longer curved manifold.
too much turbulence? Or pushing so much horsepower that the ECU cut timing to save the engine? Hope you have a video with a bigger jet soon.
Very cool. Super fun.
Thanks! Check out the7 foot exhaust / 3 foot intake video! ua-cam.com/video/H3GPSgVLOSw/v-deo.html
It's so fast it goes 3 mph standing still!
Air and gas has weight if you can get the carb up high so gravity can help the ram charge . Down draft carb would be nice. Crotch rockets are like that get one of those carbs. I would use an air filter box and ram pressurize it
When are you going to start doing fuel mileage test on these mini bike builds?
I actually did one test a couple years ago.I addded a small tank to the Coleman bike and did a milage test on it. I'll have to do more. Check it out...ua-cam.com/video/j7U_0GgGLng/v-deo.html
Where is the build video of the mods including the wheels and tires used on this doodlebug?
Check out the Doodlebug playlist ua-cam.com/video/9KE9e-3KHrU/v-deo.html
The float bowl, and the fuel tank need to feel the same amount of pressure for this ram air to work.
I like your channel, great fun videos.
Turn up the fuel on the carb
Running a little lean make it just a tad richer 😊 ..john . Australia
you really need more cross section area for your intake funnel.
For comparison purposes have you ever tried a 2 cycle engine? Like a West Bend 820. Just wonder how the numbers would compare. I think the horsepower is greater on the West Bend.
Haven't tried a two-cycle yet...
Hey I have a question, I’m looking at getting a performance air filter keeping the stock carb on my b200, but I can’t find a kit on Amazon with a recirculation filter, only the main intake and fuel breather filter. Is that third hose that goes to the block necessary to have filtration? A few Amazon kits have a filter for that but those kits don’t come with an air filter adapter so I’d have to buy 2 separate kits and mix em to have all 3 filters and the adapter. What’s your thoughts?
Wow what a mini bike builder!! You should learn some port polishing etc
I have . Check out the Mega Moto playlist . There are many parts combos and engine builds on that playlist . Check it out. ua-cam.com/video/VbcpA0jdSIw/v-deo.html
Hey man! I have a stage 3 predator 212 on my ct200u. I have a 10t on my torque converter and 40t sprocket. If I switch to a centrifugal clutch, what is a good budget clutch and what size sprocket should I put on the front for trail/road riding?
If you are going to use a straight chain I would use a big rear sprocket.Like a 60 or 72 , bigger the better because It is hard on the clutch with the big tires and the high gear ratios. For trail riding I would stay with the torque converter set up myself.
Do u not have return springs on the throttle of any of your builds? I only ask bc I always see u snap the throttle back.
The return spring is in the slide of the carb. I snap the throttle back for consistency on the timed tests. There is a point I need to be off the throttle,. I try and do it the same every time.
Where did you get that header and or part number thanks in advance and kick ass channel
Thanks! Its a few videos down in the Doodlebug playlist . The links for the parts are in the description of the videos. ua-cam.com/video/9KE9e-3KHrU/v-deo.html
You HAVE TO PHATIN IT UP
I've been running my own ram air for six months bro and 7k miles
install a turbo charger
time for a turbo
I would say that you probably need a little more fuel. However on a governed engines how are you gonna get anymore top end out of it unless you don't have enough engine to reach maximum RPMs in the first place?
I wonder if its actually making enough pressure in the intake tract to overcom the gravity fuel system and making it lean out cause it does kinda sound like it especially since you cant give full throttle
so when can we see you do a Honda gx270 or predator 420 with a 40 series torque converter
Technicly thats a velocity stack and works different than ram air
The set up was mainly for fun. Check out the playlist for many engine combos and parts comparisons and a few builds thrown in for good measure. Thanks for watching! ua-cam.com/video/9KE9e-3KHrU/v-deo.html
Where can I get that center exit pipe from and will it fit on a 212 predator non-hemi ?
GoPowerSports has that pipe. Yes it will fit a non-hemi
Next consider making a cold air intake with a chiller section. Make the air denser going in.
Back on a turboed project ,I had a bright idea of chilling the intercooler with almost anything that gets freezing cold when blasted from a can.
Maybe not the safest but I'm thinking cheap cheap, propane or helium or something like that blown on a intercooler to freeze it.
I had less chance of a fire being it was a diesel
So do the same with a long intake tube.
Lol hold a propane torch bottle upside down as ya ride and blast it on the tube.
Haha who knows ya might even draw in some propane 😂
Sir
Ram Air has to be conical , it start with big opening facing forward
Then it get tighter
Rich out the main and power jet
I want to see a huge cone to catch maximum air
That's what I was thinking as I read a comment above ,testing isn't conclusive yet imo
Let’s make it 5 pined. Sorry I’m late
I’d put a showing quarter faring up front and work on aerodynamics
I'm not going to spill my specks but I'm running 296ish lift with my valve train combination
But maybe try a deration cam and not a high lift cam
This video was mainly for fun.Check out the 7 foot exhaust video and the 3 foot intake video ...ua-cam.com/video/x61JKb-A_84/v-deo.html
Awesome! Check out the e-bike videos!! ua-cam.com/video/o0UliTSSwWc/v-deo.html
😎
I have that carb with a premier clutch and I can’t get it to stop bogging what jets or drill size to drill them out for it
It’s a 28mm minuki flat slide
What size gas tank is that?
I picked this tank up used off of ebay. Check out the Doodlebug playlist for the entire build on this bike. It has had many different engines and combos on it. ua-cam.com/video/x61JKb-A_84/v-deo.html
What happened when you put on a RAM AIR intake??? I must know!! Did the air get RAMMED into the intake so you went faster??? I love youtube.
try a maassive traffic cone instead
Great idea!!!
what is you gearing
Its running a 12/66 5.5 to 1 ratio
It's leaning out at top speed
Not trying to just bash but I guess you gotta start somewhere lol. All I can say is nothing happens magically on an engine.
These videos are for fun. Check out the playlist for many more part combos, parts tests, and bike builds. ua-cam.com/video/bAchgrp5AZ0/v-deo.html
Not enough fuel for amount of air
You could have run that U bend up and over the engine with a long runner like a refueling spear out the front!
I think the bike now need more gas (fuel) next video please
Use big funnel
Hold it wide off the start
Check out the playlist . Over 320 videos with multiple speed test .
@@Black66 ya it just looked like it wasn’t wide open my bad
Wow...looks weird.
Need more gas to air ratio
Pick me
This is silly … sir .. sorry
And maybe even trying a turbo I've heard they won't work but my son begs to differ
