    Want to take a quick second and thank you Barry for all these tips, pieces of advice and just overall knowledge of the game that you share with us. Up until today i struggled to make breaks over the high teens low 20s and would get frustrated with my game because I didn't know where I was going wrong. Today, I made my first 40 break! Thanks to you and your videos i was able to achieve that 40 and hopefully more in the future, keep doing what your doing and once again from alot of your subscribers, thank you sir true legend of the game

    Hi Sir Barry, i loved all your videos. May i know why is that every player has different cue power, for instance ronnie doesn’t have judd’s cue power? Is that an disadvantage for the players if they dont have that cue power? I look forward to hearing from you.
    Kind regards.

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому +1

      Voker. Judd uses a lot more wrist that Ronnie and as a result can generate the cue power. Sometimes however players who use a lot of wrist can lose accuracy and I believe it is far more important to develop accuracy of cueing and the cue power will develop accordingly. In today's game most pros have adequate cue power, granted some have more than others but they only need it occasionally.

    If the double (bank) allows for a straight on shot I have little trouble. I can adjust how the ball comes of the cushion using higher speed so the ball comes off sharper than going in.
    I have trouble getting the shot if I need to cut the ball into the rail. It seems the induced spin causes the ball to come off at odd angles. At least they are odd to me. I have tried using spin on the cue ball to minimize the induced spin but not much that I do does not seem to help much.
    Your advice not to hit hard when I currently the ball into the rails seems to help.

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому

      Some. I am afraid practise is the only way to learn to judge what is happening, spin on the cue ball will only add to the permutations and make the shot more problematical.

    Barry, I always struggle to cue straight consistently. I feel that my curing arm is cramped with my body all the time. I see professional like trump and ronnie have their cueing shoulder right behind their head. Me personally find it hard to do that and is there anything that do with chest position or shoulder position,or the stance. I hope that you can give me some advice . Thx

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому

      Marcus. Too many players try to adopt a position that is completely alien to them, causing tension in a lot of areas. There are basics that need to be conformed to but not to the point that a lot of tension is created. Place the cue on line, take the body to the cue and adopt a position that conforms to basics but don't worry too much that everything is slightly away from what is accepted as the norm. The object is to cue in a straight line and everyone does that slightly differently.

    Hey Barry. When doing a thin cut shot which is in-off, is it possible to change the path of the cue ball using english so as not to sink the cue ball?

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому +2

      Rajie. On a very fine cut it is unlikely that there will be much difference in the trajectory of the cue ball after contact with the object ball but if the shot is played slowly and there is sufficient side on the cue ball then the nap of the cloth can influence the line it will take after contact.

  • @Dhirallin

    Hi Barry. Is there a trick for aiming doubles when the object ball is very close to the cushion? and is there any method to reduce the chance of double kiss?

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому +1

      Rajie. Only experience will teach you this there is no trick to it, avoiding the double kiss is also very tricky, it can be done on some occasions by applying screw but still very tricky.

  • @bobsnooker.3950
    @bobsnooker.3950 5 років тому

    I seem to get a lot more doubles when the object ball is on the cushion not sure why as surely the angle options are cut down. could be it is just when a half ball contact looks on.

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому

      Bob. Not sure about that one, when the ball is on the cushion a double kiss is very likely and even if it is slight it will affect the trajectory of the object ball.

  • @Dhirallin
    @Dhirallin 4 роки тому

    Barry, I've been experimenting with a larger draw back, however sometimes when I draw back, the cue actually touches my chest and slides along my chest and this can deflect the angle of my cue slightly. What do you think is going wrong here in my stance?

    • @Dhirallin
      @Dhirallin 4 роки тому

      Actually it was probably just because my right foot was not on the line properly.

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому

      Rajie. Most players today have the cue touching their chest during the shot, some will go past the chest on delivery altering the grip to facilitate this. Although the cue is touching the chest it should be done without tension and this is probably the cause of your problem.

    I have a question about doubles.
    A double is normally potting a ball off one cushion into the pocket, so, cushion first(1) and then pocket(2).
    It follows that a treble is 2 cushions and then the pocket.
    Why then, is the cocked hat called a double when it is off three cushions?
    Why isn't it called just the cocked hat, or the cocked hat four?

    I hoped you would explain how to aim for the cocked hat double. You say 15 to 16 inches from the corner pocket however I would be interested in a general rule applicable to all shots of this type, not just this specific placement of the balls.

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  Рік тому +1

      xcvxc. Playing the cocked hat double as with any shot that requires a ball going around the angles depends to some degree on the table. Steel block cushions react slightly differently to just wood cushions, the cloth can be fine or heavily napped, it can be new or old, new cloth has a sheen on it producing more slide and therefore a slightly different angle. As a good starting point just try to visualise two parallel lines, one from the cue ball to the cushion and the other from the second cushion which will be roughly parallel to the first line. Experience and practise will teach you the rest but please don't forget that success with the cocked hat double is largely a matter of luck. However, its a bit like golf in the sense that the pro will get more whole in ones than the amateur simply because he will be closer more of the time.

    So if i hit it hard, does it straighten up on the first cushion or second cushion

    • @klieu90210
      @klieu90210 5 років тому

      If you hit it hard, it will straighten off the first cushion. Off the second cushion, this effect is even more pronounced.

    • @dnbmania
      @dnbmania 5 років тому

      Straighten up off of the first cushion and has gathered a sidespin from this contact that also checks it off of the second cushion. Therefore on the second bounce you have both the straightening effect of the cushion and the straightening effect of the sidespin, provided the ball was hit hard initially

    • @misterocain
      @misterocain 5 років тому

      With each cushion it tends towards straightening out but you still get an appreciable angle on the first cushion. Unless you are confident of a double (my regular opponent frustratingly is and also with the treble), hitting it hard maybe the better option as you are less likely to leave an easy red for your opponent should you miss. My opponent, again frustratingly, can double into corners. This is a great video but I personally only ever play a double when there is a shot to nothing and nothing else on

    • @rickywong4054

    @barry stark,
    Hi sir,
    We plan to conduct a team tournament in our club.. 4 teams.. Each team 4 players.. There will be singles and doubles match.. Each team will play against all the other teams 3 frames each in both singles and doubles..
    The thing is instead of considering just frame winning we have planned to note the points scored by each team and the aggregate of points scored in both singles and doubles are considered and the top two teams will play finals..
    For eg.
    Team A
    Won 10 frames and scored 797 points
    Team B
    Won 9 frames and scored 729 points
    Team C
    Won 9 frames and scored 757 points
    Team
    Won 10 frames and scored 724 points
    So teams A and C qualify for the finals.. You can see even if team D has won 10 frames due to the total points scored, team C are through to the finals though they won just 9 frames..
    And the finals will be played for 3 frames and the points scored in league rounds will be carry forwarded to the finals too, which means team A enters the final with a lead of 40 points and team C has to battle that lead with 3 frames to play and the highest points scored with previous rounds and finals will be considered as winner..
    Sir, is it OK if we plan tournament format like this?
    Another thing is, is it proper if we either total the points we score in each frame or should we total the difference points with which we won in each frame? .
    Kindly suggest me a proper way sir..
    Regards,
    Ashwin

    • @BarryStarkSnookerCoach
      @BarryStarkSnookerCoach  4 роки тому

      Aswin. It is an unusual way to run a tournament but I am all for trying out new formats which can certainly add interest. As long as the rules are adequately published and understood by everyone, go for it and I hope it goes well. As you are amassing the points scored I would stick with that rather than working on the difference. Of course this is only my opinion as a coach rather than a tournament organiser.

    • @robin_holden

      I don't know of any three player snooker games, but there's a three player variation on 8 ball pool called Cutthroat:
      Whoever pots a ball first gets to choose a range of balls, 1-5 (low), 6-10 (middle) or 11-15 (high). The next person to pot a ball gets to choose their range, and the last person gets the last lot of balls. The object is to pot the other two players' balls and keep yours on the table. If all a player's balls are potted, they are out. The winner is the last player with any of their balls on the table.
      If a foul or scratch happens, ie potting the cue ball, not hitting a ball, not hitting a rail after contact with an object ball etc., then the other two players (even if one has no more balls left) get to bring one of their potted balls back onto the table, next to the spot. Obviously, you'll want to avoid playing on a coin-operated table if you want to use that rule.

      We play a lot of snooker games with 3 people in India. One of which is called INDI(short for "Independent"). It is just simply played with all the rules of regular snooker with 3 people taking turns to play. Whoever has scored the highest points by the end of frame, wins. Only rule change is if there is a foul committed then the next player decides if the player will play again or he himself will take the turn.Also foul results in deduction of points from your total rather than adding to opponents.
