So sorry to hear about the rough race. I feel the heavy smoke in the atmosphere had something to do with it. I shipped my 507 mile race last night and did not send my super hen because of the predicted smoke along the entire course. Your pigeons will bounce back fast. You will be amazed what a couple days of good feed and a few days of rest does for them. The winds should not have caused a race like that.
Yes, I think the smoke that was coming has something to do with it. The wind that day was from the North. We have a 400-mile race this weekened, but I will rest the birds until next week and treat it as I was dividing the team in 2 and racing every other week as you do. They look really good now and I am keeping them in the light mix. Next week, we will have a 150-mile race and the following week the final 500-mile race. I think the rest plus the 150-mile race, that is like a training, will put the birds stronger for the final race. Thanks
It's a strange race. Don't know what happened along the race route. The pigeons looked really beaten up. Glad to see the grizzle made it back. Yeah, agree with others: just give them a break to fully recover. Good luck for the rest of races! Hope you'll get some of your birds back!
Yes, after seen the smoke yesterday, maybe is related with that. I wathed a documentary that the sense of smell was impaired in a pigeon and it was harde to make it back home. Maybe there something in the air already that we could not smell. I will give the week off and start next week. I am not sure if the combine will race this week with the smoke
I’m glad you got some birds back as of yesterday I got 16 out of 22 . It was no smoke here in south Jersey all the late birds come in with muddy feet that tell me they hit some rain on the way or the drop down to a lake to drink when the get out of energy the birds go to a survivor mode no more homing instincts they just down looking for food and water. Unfortunately this was a very bad smash race I lost some very good birds . Like I said no 400m race for me this week . I got one Tuesday morning that bird was in the six spots on the combine before it is in bad shape but is coming back . Again sorry about your birds I hope they find food and water and come home. Take care .
Thanks. The smoke herebos getting worse. I won't race this weekend. I got a bird yesterday morning and another today. Just bone and feathers. Good luck with the birds. I'll prepare the birds for the 150 and 500
There was a super bad race here locally the same day, but we're 2500 miles west of you. The day was beautiful, but there were almost 50% losses and the fastest bird of the day from 200 birds was only 390 YPM and 10th placers were down around 270 YPM. The week before, the top birds were 1400 to 1500 YPM, so they were coming in at a snail's pace - assuming they came back at all. A couple stragglers over the next few days, but not many. Locally, they felt they must have mixed with another race, but there were no reports of strays being trapped in like you'd expect if it did happen. Makes you wonder if some sort of solar activity was involved, and there WAS actually a high C Class solar flare that morning. It'd be interesting to know if other clubs around the country also had bad races the same day.
Sorry about the loss of the birds. That’s always saddening, especially when it is entirely out of your control like that. Did 901 make it back? Good luck with the rest of the OB series!!
Yes, really bad. Yes, she came on Monday morning. I will rest them for a week and fly again next week. I got 3 Monday morning, 1 Tuesday, and 1 today. Still missing 5. It will be hard for the rest of the birds because it is really bad also with the smoke
Additional- Wildfire smoke is a way of life here on the West Coast. It definitely can affect pigeons negatively, even if you just consider the respiratory aspects of it.
@Quintero Loft Some summers the smoke here will be so bad that it's visible from 50 feet away. It makes summer temperatures to 105 - 106+. We had a 115 degree day last summer from the heat and smoke turning the valley into an oven.
We never got smoke here since I live in the States. It was really bad. We have a really dry spring in here. It just started raining this week, and the weather is getting nicer
Hi bud have a look at a UK UA-camr called AngWin pigeon Lofts he's got some nice birds have a look at the vitamins drinks and food stuff that you've wife could grow in that little allotment a lot of it 😊
Yes. This week is the 400-mile race, but I won't race them. Next week, we come down to 150 miles a day, then 500 miles. I will skip the 400, and will fly the 150 and 500
Saludos

@@quinteroloft9530 Sounds like a good plan. They will bounce right back and be ready for an all day flight in the 500.
Very hard race, thanks for the video.
Yes, smash race

Wow, really interesting. A lot of things can affect pigeons' homing ability
@@quinteroloft9530 Funny thing. I have seen reports of smash races in England during the same 24 hours. Makes you wonder.
@kerbyjackson88 Yes, definitely, there was something with that day.
Una carrera muy difícil. El humo está muy intenso y los vientos. Buenas palomas campeón.
Buena suerte para la próxima carrera.
Gracias. Si, mala carrera. Ahora a esperar q se recuperen. Saludos

Siento mucho que tus pichones no regresen.
Espero los repongas pronto.
Animo amigo quintero
Gracias
Good decision to keep them at home this week.
Givevplenty of protein this week....build back up muscle.
No need for exercise for at least 3 or 4 days
Yes, I will rest them until next week. Anyway, the race will probably be canceled because we are having a lot of smoke because wildfires in Canada
