"Takes place at a Christmas party..." "Oh, that's why they say its a Christmas movie..." No... That is a part of it. But not only is the Christmas setting/theme throughout the whole film, but at it's core it is a movie about bringing a family together during Christmas... Realizing that family is what is important. The true Christmas spirit!! It just also happens to have lots of guns and explosions. ;-)
Predator, Bloodsport, Robocop, Running Man, The Last Dragon, Die Hard, Big Trouble In Little China are some of my favorite movies that I can watch over and over again. I also own most of them and do!
Love everyone is this comment thread. Cuz I thought I was gonna be the only one who knew what this movie was. I’m 22 and I’ve been watching this movie pretty much since I was born. Love it so much. Can quote the whole thing!
12:14 "Thats some immigrant mentality"? Um, not really. He's not an immigrant, he made that film Police Story in his native Hong Kong. It's just the way he is in all his movies. A man of pure dedication! 😄
Is there a part 2 to this? Because you can't forget to include one of the best movies to come out of the 80's. Queen with the music, swordfighting from a nearly blind Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery as an egyptian for some reason. Highlander was epic!
THE LAST DRAGON!!!! Seriously!! This film captured the imagination of a generation. Yeah, we knew then the visual effects were immature. But getting them at that level of quality in a low budget kung-fu film (giving superhero vibes) was pretty cool.
I know the answer to the Robocop question about the face. It's (lore-wise) Not real skin. The "face" we see under the helmet is not made of flesh, it's like an animatronic. They kept Murphy's features to "honor him" and give him an approachable an human aspect. Frank Miller at his best
Big trouble, overboard, escape from L.A./ New York basically any Kurt Russell movie from the eighties wasa straight up fever dream and I love them all.
0:30 if she's talking about the Predator franchise, Prey is on Hulu and it's amazing and it's always been a person in a suit in every movie. The only CG they do is for the camoflage and that's something they've always needed to do even in the first one.
The man that played the Predator was Kevin Peter Hall, who was 7'2" tall, a full foot taller than Arnold. Originally, it was supposed to be Jean Claude Van damme in a kind of bug costume (there's some test footage of it), and he quit because the costume was hard to move in and it obscured his face. Fun fact: Stallone actually hates guns, but is most famous for his roles in movies where his characters use them.
Aaah. Remember showing Akira to my Dad when he was about 70. He had visited Japan several times so got the neo-noir fututurescape vibe immediately. He said it "got a bit weird at the end though!" . A bit? Makes me wonder what he saw over there.
The last dragon is one of the greatest movies of all time. I will die on this hill. It's only rival is Big Trouble in little China. EDIT: DUDE you dropped in Akira? SO good.
With the bits of trivia they said about several movies, I was surprised they didn't tell them how Die Hard was Alan Rickman's first theatrical release movie role. He'd done a few short roles in TV series and a made for TV movie. It's kinda remarkable that one of the most iconic bad guys from the 80's was in his first movie role.
In the original predator Van Damme was supposed to originally be the predator but he turned it down because he didn’t like that no one would see his face or that it would be obvious that it was him. Also Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat was inspired by Van Damme from Bloodsport. He also refused to be recorded for the character. The split punch is Johnny Cage’s signature move.
I don’t watch Akira and even I knew how revolutionary it is for anime films then. I’m not liking the disrespect for the film. The Akira slide was referenced in so many shows and movies and the movie itself has been cited as a major influence for numerous movies for DECADES. Even now! There’s a reason why it became a legacy.
Fun Fact: The line that Mrs. Weasley used to end Bellatrix in Deathly Hollows pt. 2 ("not my daughter, you B!TÇH!") was inspired by the line from Alien (Get away from her, you B!TÇH!")
now i want a full react on Jackie Chan. Police Story is one of my favorite movies ever, and that doesn't even start to describe his skills and commitment.
All my dad would play when I was 12 and under, (early mid 2000's) would be Arnold, Sylvester, van Damme, Bruce Lee, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Mel gibson, Danny glover, etc.
A little surprised that it wasn’t mentioned that The Last Dragon was produced by Motown founder Berry Gordy and that the soundtrack included several Motown acts, including the number 3 hit “Rhythm of the Night” by DeBarge.
My little brother wore the 'Last Dragon"VHS cassette tape out , Every day he would play that over and over again , but to be fair he also played Purple Rain to death and Barney.
Jean Claude Van Dame's split and punch from Blood Sport became the basis for the character moves of Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat video game. However, Van Dame was not available or they couldn't get him for the actual shooting of the game, so another martial artist was used.
I'm over here at the top of my lungs singing " You are the Last Dragon. You possess the power of the glow!" To this day I don't know why The Last Dragon wasn't more popular. Do you see the abs on Bruce Leroy? And a Berry Gordy soundtrack? The Last Dragon inspired me to take karate. That lasted for all of 1 summer lol. To this day if I asked my mom, who's the master? She'd automatically say "SHO'NUFF" Its such an iconic line. OH and that Busta Rhymes video, Dangerous, was inspired by this movie. Busta really looked like Sho'nuff. That video made me happy. Like somebody else knows this movie!
_The Last Dragon_ is to "Black" to know for the majority of the _FBE Reactors,_ just like _The Wiz_ and the _R&B_ topic videos. Sadly _Friday, Tupac, Biggie_ and _Nelly_ is about the "Blackest" the majority of _FBE Reactors_ go back, even Sharon.
I love videos like this, because everyone is like "Omg Its this actor from this movie, I didnt know they were in this!!!" When most of the clips they're seeing are the actors original roles or first gigs and the ones that they know them for came way later 😂
You didn't have the best line from Predator in there, where one guy says to Jessie Ventura's character "You're bleeding" and Jessie responds "I ain't got time to bleed."
2:02 The reason the Palm thrust to the gut was so impactful, is because its the Tanaka's special strike called the Dimuk(Hope I spelled that correctly). In order to prove he was representing the Tanaka, JCVD had to do their special strike on a stack of bricks, JCVD palm thrusted the top brick, but it was the brick in the middle that got all the impact with no damage to the other bricks. That foreshadowed this scene, JCVD did the Dimuk, the mans insides felt the entirety of the blow, he had a hard time breathing so he used his arms to do a vacuum action to get air in amd out of his lungs so he can attempt to do one last attack on JCVD, then we get the Split Legged Low Blow. Frank Dukes, JCVD's character was the insperstion for Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat, when the movie of Mortal Kombat was in the works, JCVD was approched to be Johnny Cage in the movie, however he had to decline the role because he was already contracted to do be Guile in Mortal Kombat's fighting game competitor Street Fighter, Street Fighter The Movie beat Mortal Kombat to the punch. Good news for Mortal Kombat recently though, it finally came around full circle in Mortal Kombat 1, the latest fighting game from Mortal Kombat has a dowloadable skin for Johnny Cage, and it is none other than JCVD, you get to look like JCVD as Johnny Cage with JCVD's voice.
It was the bottom brick that broke. He asked his buddy to pick a brick, he picked the middle one. When JCVD stood before the bricks he was stopped and told the bottom one.
Its definitely a Christmas movie, it's a tradition to watch Hans Gruber fall off the Nakatomi Tower every year. Die Hard, Jim Carrey's The Grinch, Fred Clause and Scrooged are must watch in my house.
Big trouble in little china is awesome if you like b movie also fun fact lo pan is played by James hong which most remember from everything everywhere all at once

The disrespect for "The Last Dragon"
Have never heard of it, & I grew up in that time lol
It's what happens when you get people who only think of cartoons as children's entertainment, unfortunately.
