    I like your oval and off cut, get for setting. But there’s a real beauty in natural free form opal. Love em Phil, well done, get well mate.

    Carvings came out great. … I’ve never seen a wood polishing bur before. Looks like it did the job.
    The crystals at the end were magnificent.

    Great to see this new 'track' of cutting/reshaping opal that you've taken on. Really interesting, and the colours are so beautiful 💥💫😉

    Hey Phil, so opal is like lollipops , I’ve licked plenty of it and it sure doesn’t taste that way 😂😂😂😂

    Thats a great idea with the eye drilled for the bird.Ever thought of putting in an inlay for the eye?

    I also think the way the opal colour faces is very important to watch, especially when carving shapes. The bird and its caterpillar.

    Carving abstract shapes and in 3D! Awsome mate! Ive been playing with a similar idea myself. What are your thoughts on polishing as much of a carving as you can on a polishing machine/flat lap with a polishing wheel, and then finishing with a dremel to get in all the nooks an crannys?

    • @theopalmills
      @theopalmills  Місяць тому +1

      G’day mate, anything that you can use, including a flat lap soft resin pads using the outer edge, burrs/resin bits, sandpaper, to get a great finish should be explored, I also have bags silicon carbide grits that can be used with a wood dowel to skin polish. Let the results speak for themselves. 🤪👍

    The stone you cut looks like a bird. Drill a hole in the smaller side put in a seed pear and you have the eye.😂😂😂
    I was cooking and watching i missed the part where you showed the bird. 😂😂

    Have to go back and check my lamina rough. Sometimes the worm is bigger than the bird.
