I added a switch and relay to our patriot to be able to bypass the brakes. I also hard wired the traction control to a rocker switch and use the old foot pedal for the fence row nozzle. I select the left or right side with the factory switch and fire the solenoid with my foot when needed

Sounds like the brake pedal, when pushed, puts the transmission in neutral, or stop position, which instantly stops the rig. Much like the brake pedal on lawn mowers, doesn’t do much braking, but shifts the transmission to the stop position.

I did it for years. 362 miles door to door. 30,000 bales of hay a year on 3 farms. Start farming in February in southern Idaho then go to Nevada. Finish planting new crops do a little irrigation and then start cutting hay. Equipment and crews just went in circles. Finished harvest in October. Shipped hay year around. Fun times.

Ed Crego, Mike has said that it's just faster and cheaper for them to just drive stuff.. We have trucks and lowboy and other trailers and if it's a fairly easy move farm to farm, field to field we just drive equipment. It's pretty fast for us to just leave stuff hooked up and drive it the 130 miles between 2 of our places in Western Idaho.

I get what you are saying about the brakes. I can offer a little background though for what its worth. The brakes do that because the brake pedal only has a momentary switch to inform the hydro that brakes are applied. So the sprayer doesn't know if you are lightly tapping or standing on the brake because a car just pulled out in front of you. In order to meet regulatory emergency braking requirements, the hydro applies maximum braking to help the friction brakes (wet brakes inside the hubs). If the hydro was to fight the service brakes because someone forgot to pull back on the handle, it would fail to meet regulation stopping distances.
Also, not sure if you are aware, but versus a current Patriot. The Trident has significantly more robust engine overspeed protection. It should be very difficult/impossible to overspeed past 2750rpm and it should settle back down to ~2600 rpm on a long downhill braking or even a full handle pull from road speed. The system is designed to overspeed the engine to this range to increase hydro braking and reduce heat generation from braking. So in the Trident, the brake really should only need to be used for emergencies versus the Patriot where you may want to slow down and be careful with the engine.
Anyway, it's always nice to be easier on your machine if you like, but even fully loaded, you should be able to run down some pretty good hills at 25mph no problem (o-ring issues not withstanding :( ). Thanks for the video!

Mike someone may have posted this already, but on our 4430 Patriot it did the same thing with the brakes until I unplugged the sensor on the brake pedal down by the floor. Now it has brakes like a normal tractor and doesn't come to a screeching halt. The Tridents may be different but worth a try.

Mike, I hear what you're saying about the brakes but the sprayers are hydraulicly driven. There is no "axle" so to speak to put brakes on and an engine brake doesn't work well on hydraulic drive. It puts alot of heat and pressure into the drive system and pump. If they made the hubs different, they could bolt disks and calipers to each wheel and you could have real brakes. I'd imagine that would be a 50,000 dollar upgrade though. I'm surprised they don't have that but seeing how the "brake" will lock the tires up as is, they probably don't see the need to have brakes that function like other equipment. You only drive and spray with a sprayer, not pull or push. Well, most of the time your not pulling or pushing with one lol.

    • @Mattguyverr
      @Mattguyverr 2 роки тому +2

Danfoss Power Solutions makes the H1 series pump in that sprayer. It has a valve built ito the pump that transfers kinetic energy (high pressure oil) to heat when you are braking. It is separate from the normal relief valves. It's a very good system that can be tuned. It sounds like they have the software set on kill. There should be an update available to soften that up a bit. The foot brake will always be for aggressive stops though. THose sprayers and the new John Deere sprayers have amazing emergency brakes for as big as they are loaded.

    • @alexbussard7414

The John Deere sprayers actually have a caliper and disc on each wheel motor. This must just be a case thing.

Patriot 4440/4430/4420 have a brake caliper and disc on each front tire. It would be nice if there was 2 calipers per disc, one set which is normal like a car/truck and the second set which are hydro.

The Hydro is the brakes it uses hydraulic pressure to move the machine stop the machine and reverse the machine. That brake pedal just moves the hydro control to the middle which stops the fluid from going to the forward or reverse direction. The engine should never over speed going down hills it's just running a pump.

Diaquat and paraquat are of the same family. Paraquat is causing those of us who sprayed thousands of gallons to burn down weedy wheat stubble for double-crop soybeans or desiccate soybeans, are becoming victims of Parkinson's disease. Even our spouses who washed our paraquat-soaked clothes are experiencing some of the same symptoms. We did not have airconditioned and semi-sealed cabs and we were not told to wear respirators. "Oh, paraquat is dangerous but safe to spray. Just do not drink it." said our chemical supply company. Stupid people should be illegal. It's a chemical and chemicals are dangerous. You get people who know better and spray it and get it all over themselves and breathe it in. Those are the ones that got cancer. The guys that handled it PROPERLY had no issues...

It's not dangerous unless you don't know the brake pedal brings to right to a stop. The hydraulics brake naturally without pressure so when you back off the drive or meet a hill, it naturally slows itself down and keeps the speed you're at.

Good morning Mike. Case just came out with an update and removed the speed limit on the sprayer. Now they have a button for field mode "25"mph and road mode"40"mph. Loaded or not. No more waiting for the speed to change before you can drive. I'm wondering if you will get the update or not with the mods that you have.

I think that should be software, which could potentially just be pushed into this one

Mike, there is a free update for the ride suspension system on the trident. It eliminates the 8 mph and the 25 mph loaded. Check it out! It takes this machine to another level

Mike - Why take the railing off? I get that it probably slightly hinders your vision and accesing stuff from the platform to enter the vehicle, but isnt it "slight" enough to not really make enough of a difference to actually remove it? Seems like alot of hassle for little benefit. - Educate me?! lol

Mike, remember when the oven has a bun in it, finishing that bun to perfection is the most important thing to do, so you do not overtax the oven by shaking it around. Get the point?
