The California Zephyr is Amtrak’s most scenic train trip. We recently took it from Chicago to San Francisco. There were many delays and meals being not available because they ran out of food. I don’t blame the crew but management for poor planning.

Amtrak will survive. Coming off of Covid and staffing issues, much like airlines and cruise ships, there are problems. No easy fix for now. Amtrak requires a laid back attitude if you travel with them outside of the NE corridor. I did last October from NC to Seattle and back to Chicago. I had a blast despite some of the challenges along the way.

I understand the Covid problems but a lot of the promissory ran into had nothing to do with Covid. They were planning issues of not having enough food for known paid customers on board. I also travel trains all over Europe where they know what they’re doing. And the train rides are perfect and enjoyable

Gotta give my honest opinion here, you start off on a fairly positive note, but pretty much give Amtrak a thumbs down 👎 at the end. I have been riding Amtrak since it's inception in 1971, and it has been through a lot in it's 50 plus year history. Depending on government funding from year to year, and in a culture that honest does not for the most part embrace, or see the need for passenger rail. Now, for the first time in it's existence with the passing of the infrastructure bill, maybe Amtrak can gain a foothold after years of just getting by. Will Amtrak survive?? I want to leave on a positive note, Yes, it will!!
