Mate a Carrera GT with PDK and modern tyres would be an absolute beast. Would probably keep up with a 918 on track, massive weight advantage around the corners and braking but would lose out on the straights
Probably a better and faster car but I think it might take away from how special it is. Out of the 3 from that era, Enzo and SLR, it is the only manual car.
@@johnnyboy1586As quite a few owners (famously Jay Leno n Doug DeMuro)have stated, the clutch is just misunderstood by most people. The CLK GTR, the Porsche GT1s, etc all had very similar race clutches. You just had to readjust your driving style a bit. The new Singer DLS supposedly runs the exact same clutch system as the CGT. Alternatively, another solution was to upgrade to the version of the clutch that was in the Gemballa Mirage GT as it supposedly made it much more easier to use n makes it much more compliant in city traffic.
Went to Goodwood revival courtesy of Lotus ( got to have a drive in the Eletre). You were supposed to have jacket and tie to get into the paddocks, but saw plenty of people in t-shirts and shorts . The people who did make an effort looked great though. Was a top day out
Looking forward to meeting you both on weekend at Alexander’s prestige this podcast is my favourite pleasure on the way to or from work each week 👌 wonder what I’ll do next week after seeing it live….. mmmmm predicament 👍 thanks again for another great video
Regards to electric market we went from 2mp to 50mp camera in less than 5 years but over the last 15 years it’s been refined to the point that it surpasses film camera quality. No one uses film camera anymore!
I always said I wanted a bone stock classic Land Rover Defender. Having bought one I've not been able to help myself, doing all sorts of modifications. I guess maybe the difference is that my dream car is slight more achievable than going for a performance or super car 😂
Regarding the IndyCar race that took place at Laguna Seca, Scott Dixon won the race. It was another classic Scott Dixon master class demonstration of brains, restraint, talent, desire to win and supreme support from his Team.
A lot of the most valuable race cars at the Revival are so priceless now that (not that you would know it) they are tool room copies/replica's with the original squirreled away at home. These cars from the A35's up are producing hugely boosted horsepower today.
Totally agree about EV market.... i really want a good small-ish EV. Volvo EX30 looks spot on but is 9 months away. R5 looks nice as well. Again months away.
If you and Tony enjoy the Goodwood Revival, you two should head down to Monaco next year (or on even number years) and go to the Historic Grand Prix. A weekend with 3 decades of F1 cars. They fully go for it too. Plus, around Monaco it's such a fun track.
My guess is the shocks are either in short supply or there was a technical directive from Bilstein or Ohlin or whoever supplies Porsche for that specific shock regarding weeping, wiping and waiting to see if it comes back.
Driftworks tried a dual clutch gearbox in their E30 M3 track car but it never worked well they have put a full sequential in now. There are DSG conversion packages for Exiges available too but they are super expensive.
In UK, the heatwave and best weather is always the first week or two in autumn, experienced that for 15 years, when i lived there... was very confused to begin with, then got used to it...
Electric cars in Australia are keeping there prices. 2 to 3 year old Model 3 is still around $60000. Might change when Highlander arrives but sales are not slowing here.
It’s the dealer that can’t be arsed in sorting it out. I would demand it gets changed under warranty and tell them what your about to do with the road trip. Cannot believe they said what they did. Absolutely disgusting for 200k car
In your next us east coast love tour could you do an event at Virginia international raceway or the bmw center in South Carolina or maybe somewhere in or around Daytona around the 24 hour or the 500?
I'm sorry but when you look at special series cars after the 360 challenge era, manual trans is not the way. It just takes away the performance levels of what it was fully intended to be. Your money your mods but it's just not right to see let's say , a Pista with a manual. I would not spec a GT3 post 997 in manual for this reason.
I feel like plenty of people band around the sentiment of wishing all modern sports and supercars had a manual option yet when it comes to it would almost always choose a DCT or PDK etc.
Great podcast as always guys! And Sam, hate to be that guy, but you could’ve solved your garage dilemma by keeping the X3 which was Vicky’s car, and you using the SVR since jag is lending it to you for awhile. Then you both have a family car like you originally intended haha
All cars must be modified no matter what model it is!! A friend from Monaco who has one of the most impressive collections I've ever seen, modifies all his cars, including classics and hypercars, including the rarest Ferrari cars, which is a good thing that puts an end to the falsehood that Ferrari doesn't accept modifications, even though it Only those who modify the registered trademark, such as the shield, for example, or use the car for unsophisticated gains, such as advertising, will sue in court!
I imagine you can’t put a dual clutch transmission in to a manual because of the extra tech that is required to run it. It’s probably hard to connect a TCU to a manual car ECU. 🤷♂️
School fees Tony, Hello. Can see you’ve been impressed by Sam’s schooling 😉😀 Seriously a good education is the best thing you can give your children. Also, Teach them to appreciate good food and good ingredients, stay healthy.
Cars are so much less expensive than in the US. Cheapest Roma here is $220k, so $180k GBP. Although, I still can't figure out how your taxes work. Do you pay VAT (20%) on used cars? Trade in credit against that?
Does not surprise me with car finance and buying cash. When used car finance interest is so much higher than what you can borrow money straight from a bank for at a lower interest rate. In some calculations, the difference in interest would pay off the balloon payment on a finance. So why not just own the car outright.
Treat EV buying like tech you never buy an 4k or 8K TV when they come out as they are thousands or buy a PC with the latest possessor buy 2 years behind and save 40% plus let them be tested on the road so you get the version that works.
I don't know why, but the Roma just never appealed to me from the very beginning. Seeing them properly sending one with a V12 around Fiorano did bring some curiosity but then finding out that they were using it as a testbed quickly killed it. I absolutely hated the California before it too. I felt it was just plain ugly. The Roma n Portofino are at least great lookers in comparison. Though the 2 r technically rivals to the Turbo S, the Porsche felt like it'd be a better buy. It was almost as though they were rolled out as a cash grab in the form of forced purchases to let you have a go at gettin an allocation for one of the limited run cars.
Sam, do what Tony advised and buy an ICE car. Forget the EV unless you have a home charger and Driveway. You'll be forever looking for an available charging station, let alone the range anxiety issues. You've a lot to contend with atm now there's 3 of you. Let's not forget that the Values will kick you in the backside too. I can't understand why you don't use the GT3 a bit more atm whilst you look for a runaround to get you by with.
Why don’t you do a video on how many recalls Ferrari have had including the brake failures on the F12 the child seat danger on the SF90 and also the fire risk on the 296’s
Hi Sam, I think your mic sounds too close to your face - you’re getting distortion/audio clipping. They’re good quality mics so should work fine another inch or two away and get clear audio.
Hey Sam, you mentioned right at the end you'll be at Porsche HQ and I happen to work there 2-3 days a week. Any more details so I can eventually come say hi?
Took my 105 bhp Seat Altea 1.9 tdi for an mot today, it passed but advisory on tyres. Going to push the boat out on this one. Because of its huge power output, im going to modify further by putting " LING LONG" tyres on it. She will be a beast then.
Stop bashing the T.50! Neither of you has ever driven one or ridden in one. Also, neither of you has contacted Gordon Murray and asked why he designed it as he did. You haven’t even reached out to Dario Franchitti, who was on the development team and an Indy 500 winner. Maybe you should try and get Dario on your podcast because I think he would put both of you back in your place and make you eat some humble pie.
@@BehindTheGlassI guess he’s just making an assumption that you haven’t done that on the basis of 2 years of slagging the car off! Plus if memory serves me right, you mentioned a total lack of interest in the offer of driving a friends T50. All in all a fair assumption to make….
Big expensive cars are bad news (in depreciation) regardless of their motive power. There are a few exceptions but they are normally outside of normal buyers budget or shortlisted so "normal" people can't get one. Maybe you (Sam) should live in the real world
Test drive the iX1, it rides like a BMW, maybe bit to big but rides sporty and than when your wife is alone with the car and the baby she can actually put stuf in the boot
That'll be a funny scene where Tony is trapped upside down in his GT3 with the gas leaking like in the movies; then the corner marshall asks him why he keeps talking smack about RBR and Max every week lol.
Not relevent to this video but Ive just been going over a load of past podcasts and it seems you have a recurring issue with usage of 'Objectivity' and 'Subjectivity'. The car has the fastest 0-60 time etc. Subjective = Opinion. eg The car looks best in red. This car is better a for pan-european road trip than that car etc.
I’ve always wanted to know what a Carrera GT would be like with a PDK gearbox
Yes get rid of that horrid clutch!
Same!
Mate a Carrera GT with PDK and modern tyres would be an absolute beast. Would probably keep up with a 918 on track, massive weight advantage around the corners and braking but would lose out on the straights

Can't Believe i have been waiting for the episode to drop, kept refreshing UA-cam
Tony is actually a legend for how much motorsport he watches
Sam is so out of touch he thinks its out of touch for a family to have two cars 🤣 Great episode guys ❤️
A lot of people have only one car, some have two but they are, more often than not, sensible cars that can fulfil a variety of uses.
Good job guys, keep up the great work 👍

Love your podcast!!! Best listen out there
I hope Vicki found the pram 😅
If the Enzo has the same gear box as the 599 then it could be. The F1 gear box is a manual gear box with a hydraulic linkage that shift gears for you.
There is a manual kit for the 599

Autumn starts September 23 mates...
IONIC 5 is not an SUV and even less an Evoque rival. It's just a enormous hatchback.

Great podcast. Yea another car is the best way Sam solved ur issues either go gas or just opt for cheap ev might not like just see if it would work.
It must be lunchtime on a Thursday 👍
People do, they swap out the manual gearbox in the old Supra, and mate a ZF 8speed gearbox to a 2JZ engine.
CLK DTM with either a manual or modern double clutch or even a racing sequential with center console shifter.
In UK, the heatwave and best weather is always the first week or two in autumn, experienced that for 15 years, when i lived there... was very confused to begin with, then got used to it...
It's that same in NZ with the best settled weather being in our first month of autumn which is March
Technically, autumn starts near the end of September. Also, last year the hot weather continued all the way until the start of October.
Electric cars in Australia are keeping there prices. 2 to 3 year old Model 3 is still around $60000. Might change when Highlander arrives but sales are not slowing here.

Oh common, F430 Manual is insane
Performance on a spread sheet, sure. Actual driving enjoyment on a back road? It's not a black and white answer.
An 2023 Prius Prime, it now has a 2.0L motor as well, Electric Motor (120 kW, 161 hp)
V10 Manual R8? similar (spec wise) to manual 458 Speciale
Oh and that weeping shock issue is criminal from Porsche! I wouldn't accept that on a new Fiesta let alone a GT3
Sam please come to south africa for a live
I had an issue with Brakes binding on my 12 month old car, wouldn’t entertain a warranty claim.

The Maserati Quattroporte would be an immediate collector with a Manual transmission or a DCT.
6:42 answer to your question: Viper ACR! front-mid

Aston Martin One 77 with a manual gearbox would be my Dream
Get a Honda E, super cute!..
You can go to Revival wearing whatever you like
why no one like the lusso T? i tought it was the pick, cheaper simpler and more torque
The light speed gear box from Koenigsegg in the McLaren F1
Why not go for the f pace phev
Sam test a MG4 Xpower, cheap as chips through a business and will do as a second family car.

I’d save a fortune in tax getting a new EV through work. But nothing I want! Audi GT maybe but so blinkin big! So same, Sam.
What does Sam say at the start of every video?
Proper analogue dials in cars with childish digital dashboards
Lots of AMGs have been ruined for me with those auto gearboxes, a decent manual or DCT
Koenigsegg CC850 is MANUAL Carrera GT is manual all this cars have more power than 458 Speciale
I’m with Tony. It’s a brand new car worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. I’d be furious. Just fix it Porsche…. Replace the damn thing.
SLR with a proper gearbox and brakes.

Way off 😅
