"Flying Beagle" is a Perfect Album

- I just stumbled upon Himiko Kikuchi's masterpiece "Flying Beagle" recently, and I think more people need to know about this work of perfection
Listen to it: • Himiko Kikuchi - Flyin...
Recently, someone named "The Dog Walker" ripped the album, upscaled and removed the text on the artwork with AI, lowered the pitch, and reuploaded it into streaming platforms. I advise you to not listen to these versions, but instead, listen to the original on UA-cam or on the Internet Archive.
I like how they normalized the pitch down to 440Hz.
at the same time, a shame it's not on iTunes. The next viable option for me was.. less legal. Such a bop though.
Someone needs to reach the record company or whoever could licence it officially to streaming platforms. It's sad to think that Himiko barely receives any royalties from the millions of listeners..
I really hope that whoever ripped it and uploaded it gets their comeuppance. Himiko Kikuchi deserves the credit for this awesome album, not some talentless hack who just put it on streaming platforms for money. Let the legit creator put it on Spotify and whatever else. Down with the Dog Walker.
I saw that on Apple Music of all things. I was disgusted.
Recommending Flying Beagle is one of the very few things YT have done right in the recent years.
Amen
I couldn’t agree more, I’ve been listening to it for years, and it has never lost its brilliance. I have a 7 day long UA-cam playlist of my favorite jazz albums. Many inspired by Flying Beagle
you do have a swag playlist
You've got insanely good taste
bruh your playlist is truly good damnnnnn
If yall havent listened to much 70s/80s Japanese jazz fusion or city pop, definitely check out the legends Casiopea, Masayoshi Takanaka, and t-square! itll open a whole new work of music to you... so many rabbit holes to go down!
I just found this album maybe 5 days ago and I’ve listened to it over and over
Same dude. I've listened to it nonstop
exactly the same for me, it‘s just perfect
Same, it's perfect
i don’t think this has flown under anyone’s radar it’s on every single persons youtube recommended at some point
also it’s pretty mediocre jazz fusion but it is a good segway, listen to hot rats(i hope this does not come off super pretentious 😭 genuine suggestion)
@@maurice7002 I'll totally give it a listen
@@maurice7002 zappa is neat but flying beagle is not mediocre at all
As a keys player myself, between Himiko Kikuchi and Minoru Mukaiya, I have several lifetimes worth of inspiration.
Agree. Hard agree. Agree so much yes yes yes. So accessibly seamless, despite being so complex. Such good work AAAAAA good video :)
thanks :)
the trumpets on this album are incredible too
Himiko's entire discography fucking bangs, too. All Right is great
flying beagle and shotbot in the same thumbnail????? funky
I was infatuated with the opening track "Look Your Back" for quite a while as someone who doesn't listen to Jazz.
glad the algorithm is sending this video out, this album is personally a favorite and i keep going back to it
You have very good musical taste!
Why thank you :)
I typed in flying beagle to listen to it to see your vid appreciating it glad I’m not alone lol
Wish it was on Apple Music tho I really like masayoshi takana too (prolly spelt his name wrong)
Yes! I learnt of it several years ago and it is always better than the last time I played it. I notice all sorts of intricacies in every piece with every replay.
I totally agree! It gets better every time you hear it
Awesome video! I'm glad you loved it enough to make a whole appreciation video about it. I might be inspired to do the same for some other unknown albums.
It's rare for cover art to get you in the mood for an album to have you sit down and listen to it and find it really is that good!
Been listening to this album for years, its fantastic
Her other albums are amazing too
Completely agreed, I found it a few years ago when looking for music similar to Masayoshi Takanaka's and I still haven't grown tired of it despite listening to it at least once ever couple weeks or so.
one of the treasures in my vinyl collection. Love this album!
the first song is the doggy inviting you to fly with him!
This is my birthday album ever since i found it .
Love It
This album "FLYING BEAGLE " was originally Released at date: October 21, 1987 Sony Music Labels Inc./CBS SONY JAPAN.
Produced by Himiko Kikuchi & Masatsugu Matsumoto (her husband)
All songs composed and Arranged by Himiko Kikuchi & Masatsugu Matsumoto
So, if her songs resemble the works of others before her career, it is possible that she was influenced by other composers and performers.
On the other hand, if the similarity of her music to other works after her career began, it may be that the composers of other works similar to hers were influenced by her works, or that they appropriated her ideas.
She was born on March 2, 1953, and is now 70 years old.
She started learning keyboard at the age of 7, and won the second prize in the Yamaha Electone Competition in Japan at the age of 12.
She started composing music seriously at the age of 15 and graduated from the Music Department of Miyagi Gakuin University in Japan.
After graduation, she joined a professional band as a pianist and made her professional debut as a solo artist in 1980.
She composed songs that many people know and used as background music for TV programs and TV commercials during the height of the fusion music boom in Japan.
However, because she is a Japanese musician, she, like many other Japanese musicians, has been restricted to working and selling only in Japan, without the opportunity to sign a sales contract with a Western label during her heyday.
As a result, many of her works were not distributed in the global market for a long time.
This is why her musical works did not reach the ears of people around the world until the Internet was born and broke down the barriers of Western labels.
I love this album so much especially baby talk that song is so chill it makes me feel warm no matter what
I found this album a year ago and it's still my favorite album lol I was just listening to it again until this video came up :D
all of spin's music i wouldnt consider skipping a single track, both whirlwind and their self titled
Definitely agree, all tracks are good, especially "Look Your Back". Insane bass.
Seagulls and Clouds will always be my favorite on the album. Genuinly love it sm
listening to it at least 100 times or less i can confirm himiko has some great albums such as the flying beagle, even listening to the song now just hits different than any style out there.
thank you for representing my fav album oat
Himiko Kikuchi's album "dont be stupid" is Soild
This is an awesome record, I discovered it like two years ago when I was getting into more City Pop and Japanese Jazz thanks to the algorithm.
The cover is so cute and intriguing and the music just slaps from start to finish.
Agreed. A+++ album.
VGHS MENTIONED!!!!
one of the first albums i put on my ipod early last year. listened to it a bunch when i travelled half the breadth of my country to visit a friend, and back
This album is good, but it is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to jazz fusion. My personal favorite is “finger dancing” by masayoshi takanaka, it’s short but it’s real good.
Dezolve are beasts. Try heart of the world and let me know
The first jazz fusion music that I've ever heard. It's from an anime named Ashita no Joe
I found this album through tiktok a month ago and that first track slaps so hard , need to listen to the rest
Hi, I'm not sure you're aware but this got rereleased on Tower Records this year on Blu Spec CD, first repress in like 30 years.
yoooo that's huge. I'll have to pick one up
I have an hypothesis on why this album is blowing up somewhat regularly : I think the bot notices that not only people click on the video, but they stay for a long period of time and come back on a regular basis. For UA-cam, that's literally the pattern they're looking for to throw ads and make their money. And, honestly, I don't mind being a guinea pig for ads I don't care about when it comes to Flying Beagle
(I alsohave a suggestion for another perfect album in "Sea is a Lady" by Toshiki Kadomatsu. I feel the same way as you do for that album (as well as Flying Beagle of course 😅). It's available on UA-cam in full and definitely worth a listen)
Finally a man who speaks the truth
good video schnorple, i agree
I heard it today, it was extremely dope 🔥🔥🔥
glad you enjoyed it my man
I love Baby Talk on the album
flying beagle has got to be one of my favorite albums of all time, the music is so FUNKY god that bass is so good. though ive got to say baby talk is my favorite song by FAR, it is full of happy summer vibes and i am here for it
Listen to the Women album! I love that one even more of them.
I like to think I was responsible for the resurgence of interest in Look Your Back. I was spreading that song around everywhere I could for at least a year and a half.
That bassline still has me like, "Aww fuckk yeaaah"

Pro Tip: You would LOVE Level 42.
4:00 HE SAID IT HE SAID THE THING (Look your back)
I found this album from UA-cam.
I found this video from UA-cam.
I think something is going right here.
Popped up in my recommended in 2022. Loved it ever since.
This album goes so insanely hard it's an instant ten!! why is it not on spotifyyyyy i am so sad about that fr TT
Dude i also just stumbled onto this through nuclear power trio and it is indeed quite perfect
In hopes of finding new music to listen to, I tried to look for funk albums intentionally. This one came up, and it was a great find. I also found "A Groovy Thing" by Flamingosis. If you haven't heard that one yet, wow it's a fantastic listen for headphones. And while you're at it, also search up Strapping Young Lad. That one may surprise you a little bit though haha.
ill have a listen.. dont disappoint me Schnorple.
I'd never disappoint you
BTW all ill say if you like this type of music is: MASATO HONDA literally anything by him fucking slaps. There is a whole concert uploaded to UA-cam (live at crosshearts 2003) and its just 🤌🤌🤌🤌 one of my favorite tunes by him is "Athlete". (Hes better known for being a member of T-Square which in their own right they are just 🔥🔥)
i wouldnt say its perfect but its totally one of the best albums ive ever listened to
this guy knows
I like "Fluffy" 😊
ive been saying this for a minute now
I am jazz now
Thank you for the update, soldier
Uno reverse card those thanks my dude ❤️
And each song name grasps perfection! 🐕
im your 18th sub
Thank you. One day when I rule UA-cam, you can feel the sweet satisfaction of knowing you were an instrumental part of my rise
i have never agreeed with a single opinion more in my life
Finally getting attention the album deserves 🤓
It’s sad that I can’t buy a physical copy. It’s probably in my all time top 10.
fire album
I hope one day we get a Vinyl Repress its really pricy and hard to find.
No hate from me. I like this kind of music, too, but I wanted to mention some constructive criticism. The video doesn't really address your goal of explaining why this is the greatest album ever. You more just say, "This is a good album. I like every song. It's very funky."
Totally fine if you want to just express your opinion, and the video was entertaining, but it just seemed like you initially had the goal of explaining/debating why this is the best album ever, and you then didn't make any arguments. Figured I'd just bring it up in case the feedback matters to you.
Do you see a reissue of this coming anytime soon on vinyl? Totally agree, this is easily one of my all time favorite albums ever and I would love a copy on vinyl. However it is imposible to find one. Great video!
Ducky Ducky is such a banger
Oh boi, yes, yes it is. Just discovered it today and then this popped in my UA-cam feed. I do not know how this fn album evaded me for so long being a j-fusion fan as i am
(Btw tsquare, casiopea and dezolve fn rule)
Sandstorm is my FAVORITE though
Nice
totally agree
i have to return some video tapes
heck yea
I agree with this video
Yup, I've been using it to study for the last 3 months
TRY HIMIKO KIKUCHI'S "COSMIC DUST BLUE"!!!!
Himiko Kikuchi es una gran tecladista. Si quieres escuchar otro gran tecladista deberías escuchar el primer disco de Casiopea [1979] dónde sale el maestro Minoru Mukaiya
I completely agree 😭😭😭
I listen to metal but you convinced me. Ill leave an update soon
We have to know how it went
I wish I could find it on vinyl
I love this album, is the best one.
this shit was orginaly gona be in my time lapse vid, i didnt say it isnt tho
YES!!!! YES!!!!!!
I just found people like me 🙏🏼
many years late
