  • To live without dreams is to live without joy. We all have dreams, hopes, and goals that spark inside the brain. Like a wax candle, they burn strong and bright initially, reaching and striving for oxygen, but as time goes on, the fire can begin to flicker as the fuel slows down, and other elements sway the balance of chemistry.
    Holding onto dreams, and keeping that fire burning is something to be celebrated. Yet, in an increasingly fast-paced world, our lives can be shaped and dictated to us by the views of society. As we age, our bodies - aches, pains, and all - and the subtle mental scarring from past endeavors where we felt we didn't reach our best can dampen our spirits to act out our dreams.
    Rab Wardell is striving, fighting, and living his life full of fire and joy. His dreams are still bright, and at 36 his desire to compete at the highest level, and be the best athlete he can be, is a chance for all of us to analyze if we should ever be "old enough to know better”
    With a name like Rab, it’s not a long shot to assume that being Scottish carries a lot of pride. Glentress was built in the late ’90s and has proven to be an iconic destination for riders from around the world. From those just starting out on wheels to the cross country racers who use the Black route as a training benchmark, this forest has many tales to tell. Rab decides to tackle the Black route and assess if he really is faster than he used to be.

    Loved watching Rab get out of the saddle on the straights where it doesn't matter because... it absolutely does. Great work all.

    Love this series so far. was literally cheering for Rab to beat the KOM. sidenote: the production does a great job of being sponsor friendly without it being overbearing or distracting. congrats to the team

    Jedi fitness levels dude. Right across the valley invested in the the sport and it’s such a great place to ride with so much to offer all levels of riding. I think Glasgow needs to really take note of that process they guys down there taken as most of the stuff here has not been kept or maintained since the games so much potential and zero effort being put in buy the powers that be. Great video 🤜🏻🤛🏻🔥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Old enough to know better? You're 36. I'm 63 and did the Glentress black in October. Will you do it too when you're 63!

      I'll let you know in 27 years time! To explain the title a little, people used to tell me I should grow up when I was 21, that was too old to be playing on bikes. It got to me, but eventually, I stopped listening to them and I kept riding, setting goals, and chasing dreams. I love your style! Keep on riding!

    What front and back Chain ring do you race in - and train in ?

    • @rabwardell758
      @rabwardell758 2 роки тому +1

      It depends. On this ride I had a 36t chainring and a 10-52 cassette. At mtb marathon I geared down to a 34t chainring, and I imagine there could be times I’d like a 38, on flatter routes. I have a couple of bike checks on my channel and website if you’re interested in a little more detail.

    I took up downhill riding at 50... (not that I'm any good as my mediocre videos attest).
