Guilty Gear has great characters who are meant more to be laughed at. Faust is a mainstay of the series, and is one of the most comedic fighting game characters ever, especially in his older games. His design reflects this. He stands at 9 feet tall but spends most of the time crouched down, he wields a massive scalpel to match his doctor’s outfit and wears a paper bag with a single eye hole over his head. His entrance animations are him floating down on an umbrella. His toolkit is very diverse, with a Dust move that can reflect projectiles, a move where he vanishes and then appears opening a non existent door and a super move which turns into a game of guess the box. If you pick the wrong one, damage, get it right, you don’t take damage. Though the star among his kit is “What’ll this be?”, a random item move which summons a random item that both you and the enemy need to work around. There’s also an upgraded super version which summons 5 items instead of 4, causing utter chaos.
I agree Faust is rally crazy. I didn’t really add me because I wasn’t sure if he would be actually considered one compared to like Dan or bad art mega man. If I were to have added a guilty gear character I would have done robo ky but I wanted to do a full video on him.
Faust himself is kinda like a Deadpool character, a jokester who simply hides a lot under his sleeves only to show threat under right circumstances when the foe shrugs of without knowing he fell into his trap. Kinda like a Filthy Frank type character.
Most of the time I don't like variations of a classic character, but in the case of Bad Box Art Mega Man I can't help but admire the joke. Not only is he spawned from bad art, but they deliberately made him older and fatter to mark the time that passed since his debut.
Dan Hibiki, the character who is a parody of Ryo and Robert (Art of Fighting) and has Mizoguchi's flying kicks (Fighter's History) Long live to the Saikyo Style!
5:11 Just to add on this, from what I recalled, there were several Mega Man games that were planned at that time, so the decision to have this Mega Man seemed to be a light-hearted joke in the midst of a celebration, but those games ended up being cancelled, with this being the last Mega Man-related thing to survive, which didn't go well with people because it seemed more like the fans and the series is being mocked.
Another thing to note about Dan in SFV is that he has a 10 second long taunt that, if completed, sends his defense on a one way trip home and makes him able to be one-comboed by almost any character in the game. It's a funny knowledge check to use because it exposes their ignorance of the character if they immediately deck you instead of letting you finish it so they can break you like a Kit-Kat bar. Also the deal with his infinite is hilarious in that they didn't even patch it out and just gave Dan like a 10% chance to fck up his Gadouken, like an actual Street Fighter player flubbing an input and getting a different move. Leaving in an infinite combo and letting It still be possible until Dan screws up is peak game design, say what you will about SFV but the devs clearly had a lot of fun making it.
I wished the Piranha Plant was an assist trophy instead. If that happened, it would sleep unless there are fighters nearby, causing it to bite anything around it.
the Parody of Dan circles back to Ryo with his short Ko ou Ken and New Hien Shippu Kyakku in KoF 96. These two devs (SNK and Capcom) are sending love letter every now and then while being best rival
I only hate when joke characters are just bad/unplayable characters. That is not what they should be: a joke character has to be fun, creative and able to win a tournament just like everyone else. And they must be hilarious while doing so. IMO you shoud add Lowain and his bros to the exemplar list. Their 4 wall breaking dialogs before, during and after combat are just too perfect.

I do think something to note about Dan is that they dont make him just arrogant and annoying. He is arrogant but thats apart of what makes him so memorable, I believe SFV did a lot for Dan moving him forward design wise adding his silliness into his optimality (taunt cancels whatnot)

I don't even feel like Piranha Plant deserves to be called a joke character. it's not like, charming or charismatic in any way other joke characters are, it's literally the most random "haha trolled" thing they could've possibly shoved in there and even after all these years I can't for the life of me mentally parse what the reasoning was. There are SO MANY fitting chracters to be an actual proper 'joke character' in Smash; Waluigi could easily be the Dan to Mario and Luigi's Ryu and Ken; there are probably 100 different goofy Pokemon that would fit the bill perfectly; Tingle form Zelda would be ideal for the role; but a random common enemy that there's nothing inherently funny or charming or interesting about is just not it.
TL;DR while I completely agree that real joke characters are awesome and NEVER a 'throaway slot', Piranha Plant is not a joke character and absolutely is a wasted slot
To be fair, Pirahna Plant is the only fighter in the game based on a common enemy, with the only thing coming close being some of the Pokémon. I think it’s nice having just one character that represents all the basic enemies you fight along the way towards the big bad. The only other “basic enemy fighters” I can think of are Goldarmor and Liquid Samurai, both from Shovel Knight Showdown.
Neco Arc is a perfect joke character. I've never played melty blood or seen her anime, but I fully support her annoying everybody she encounters. I have a plushie of her that my dog refuses to engage with, and tip my cap to whoever designed her. She's too funny to exist, but here we are.
I used to go to my college’s fighting game club, and my friends there kept trying to get me to play Tekken. So when I eventually did, I heard rumors of a dumb character, and I knew I had to play them… Lucky Chloe. It was even funnier that when I played her for the first time, I fought the president of the club, I mashed the hell out of the buttons and Lucky Chloe flipped and twirled and absolutely destroyed him (we even rematched a few times and he still got his ass beat). I knocked him off his high horse with the dumbest character and I think they still talk about that moment to this day 😂

Dan is cooler than Sean Unlike Sean, Dan fully embraces the joke. There is nothing wrong with being a joke character, something that is missing in modern games. Nowadays companies and people want all the characters to by viable in the competitive which is a shame.
More people would be ok with joke characters if there was 30+ man rosters and one was a joke character but those times are gone because are fighting games must have the new and better graphics and becaues of that i pray to never see dan or anyone like him ever again
I don't see Byleth as a joke character. Byleth was added because Sakurai found a way to give him a unique move-set that has. It's just that fans are disappointed because it wasn't a third party character.
