How to make a scissor mechanism for a Halloween prop

  • in this video I make a scissor mechanism out of some 25mm aluminium box section. This was used as part of a Halloween prop and extends out of the box by about 6 metres or 18 feet. I first saw a prop like this in a Facebook video and thought I’d have a go at making one myself (although mine is contained within a large casket with automatic opening door).

    Great video from 6 years ago. We are making a scissor mechanism this way! I'm happy with this video because i was wondering how this worked for years

    Excellent scissor mech and clear explanation of how you did it. Thanks!

    I like the fact that, even though you have almost 200k subscribers, millions of views and ton of stuff to do, you continue to reply to every comment on your videos. Thank you for being genuine and greetings from Serbia!

      I always try to reply to every comment, but I'm sure I miss the odd one as UA-cam's comment system is not perfect.

    A few years back I watched a witch connected to a scissor mechanism in a Facebook video. Last year I made my own version of the prop, although mine was contained in a casket with an automatic door. The witch extends about 18 feet out of the casket when activated.
    I hope everyone has a great Sunday ;-)

      Ultimate Handyman .
      What drive mechanism for extending scissors and automatic door open/closing.?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  7 років тому +1

      The scissor mechanism was connected to a rod-less cylinder- ua-cam.com/video/YL3-0KoSAGI/v-deo.html
      Which was activated by a P.I.R sensor, the door opened by using a small pneumatic cylinder. Both of the cylinders were connected to one solenoid valve.

      Ultimate Handyman you’re a man of many talents; a man after my own heart. Are you going to make more videos of how you’ve made this Halloween thing? I guarantee it would be a popular video.
      Nice to see you widening your fantastic channel to “builds” like this
      Always a fan of your videos 👍

      Thanks Graham, I'll probably make a couple more videos showing how I made the door open and how the casket was made, but they might not be uploaded in any kind of order as some of the videos will need a lot of editing due to me filming this over several days (mostly at evenings).

    Great tutorial. Just ordered some of the aluminium box. How did you mount the prop on to the end if the scissor mech?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  2 роки тому

      I think I drilled a couple of holes through the box section, then fixed it using two cable ties 👍

    hello, this is way too advanced for me. can you sell a non-machinery version of this? like you can use your arms to control it?

    • @ultimatehandyman

      I’m afraid I do not make things to sell, but you could make one that is operated by hand, as shown in the video at 5:41

      I've had a busy week, but managed to edit this footage from last year.
      I have loads of video footage on my computer that needs editing into videos, but not much time to edit it. It is often quicker for me to make a new video and upload it rather than editing some of the older ones with hours and hours of footage!

    Is there a science of explanation as to why you used that particular order of washers?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  7 років тому +3

      Not really, it was just a case of filling up the space on the bolt.
      I always ensured that a nylon washer was touching the aluminium to prevent any wear.
