I remember being so happy to finally have arcade quality graphics on a home console. The Dreamcast was amazing for its time.

Happy 23rd birthday Dreamcast. It feels like yesterday I was sitting in Algebra drawing the Dreamcast swirl logo on 9/9/99.

Dude I still have this perfect memory of my teacher saying “there will never be another Nine, Nine, Nighty Nine” and all I could think about was “yeah, the Dreamcast!” 😂

I remember buying a used black SegaSports edition Dreamcast back in 2003 at GameXCrazy (Hollywood Video's Gamestop equivalent) for a mere $28 including tax, with matching controller! I bought all the goofy arcade games for it including Hydro Thunder, Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead, Soul Caliber, etc. I had like 4 VMUs (2 were clear), 2 rumble packs, and a light gun. Truly an amazing system! I still forget to this day why I sold it. Even back then it was a special system, just the market didn't appreciate it is all.

One of the most underrated and groundbreaking video game consoles ever produced.
The Sega Dreamcast truly was ahead of its time.
Hard to believe we're approaching the 20th Anniversary of it's USA launch.

Dreamcast paved the wave for online gaming there will never be another console like it. if I was I billionaire I would definitely resurrect sega again as a prominent company.

umm throwing in a slow modem no one wanted and didnt work for games of the time, was outdone but the eventuality that consoles would go online regardless. This was proven because of things like the Satellaview that already worked that way in Japan in the early 90’s.

@@teamhammerbros8466 they still run via 56k dial up speed even on private servers.. go lookup dreampi... you have no idea what you are talking about dude.
At the time.. 56k was in the vast majority of homes. You do know the packets of some games hardly need any bandwidth right? Seems like you never had 90s internet. Also not defending dial up lol just pointing out what you're saying is entirely incorrect.

Sold my dreamcast and all my games about a decade ago for like 50 when money was real tight.....boy do I regret that. Not long after that, interest in old consoles boomed, and now it's apparently gonna cost me like 300-400 if I wanted to get back the console, accessories, and all the games I had, lol...Ugh.

Dreamcast was the absolute last time I've been excited about video games. Nowadays they're kind of a "take-it-or-leave-it" ordeal to me. Dreamcast was something really special. A final hurrah for Sega in the console market, but after two decades, the magic is gone.

The Dreamcast was the last time I was really excited about a console, you know that special feeling you got as a kid. There's been nothing compared to it, to this day I still talk about it.

    • @systematicallyshocked

Dreamcast is close second to me like that behind GameCube (shoot maybe N64). PS3 right now has that same feeling when I think back only because the end of its life just has sooo much to it before the ps4 era came with constant micro transactions. My ps3 is full of games I can just turn on and play.
Today I’d give it to the Switch. Compared to the Xbox and PlayStation it’s become another one I can look forward to when playing games. Put in a Nintendo card, don’t need to wait for it to download or install large files. Put in and play. Even if a game has a DL it’s usually a small 5-10 second dl.

Sega set a new sales record by selling more than 225,132 Dreamcast units in 24 hours, earning the company $98.4 million in what Moore called "the biggest 24 hours in entertainment retail history". Within two weeks, U.S. Dreamcast sales exceeded 500,000. By Christmas, Sega held 31 percent of the North American video game marketshare.

They may have regurgitated the marketing hype but how is that any different from today? Dreamcast had one of the most successful console launches ever up until that point. Then PS2 came and obliterated it.
