Always towards the valve. It gives more slack in the bead and, if you're using tubes, the valve holds the tube in place so you don't pinch it when Getty Ng the tyre on l.
Was on a group ride a few weeks ago. Guy was trying to get a tire back on for several minutes (Conti GP5000 onto a Roval CLX rim) and was working towards the valve. Couldn't get that last few cm. I finally grabbed it, pulled it off, and started at the valve, like I always do. Went on in about 10 seconds. I've only tried doing it towards the valve once and couldn't get the tire seated at the valve - been going the other way ever since and never had an issue...
Yet another polarising argument in the cycling world- we love to argue: Mechanical vs DI2, tubeless vs tubes, aero vs endurance, latex vs TPU, road bike vs MTB and on and on and on 😢😅😮
This video makes me feel MUCH better since I nearly threw these out…reminded me of trying to fit 700c tires onto 27inch road rims before a race LOL. I will say this, once on the rims these tires are fantastic! Truly a ride that is within 90% of a tubular
Never change GCdaddy 😂 FR though you’ve hit the perfect level of casual content delivery while still showing us what we want and not force feeding us sponsored trash
I discovered that with the gravel oriented Challenge tires, where there's more body to the tire itself, you can get the last bit of the bead on by using the heel of the palm of your hand and rolling the main body of the tire up -- so not pressing up on the bead with your aching, lactic acid scorched thumbs, but above the bead. The suppleness of the casing seems to give you leverage on the bead and it pops into place. I also applied hand disinfectant gel to the bead, goes on slippery, but evaporates fast.
'I yell at the customer and tell them to get the hell out' hahahahah. I have a pair of 80mm tt wheels and latex tubes, if I ever get a flat with them I'm calling the wife
I had a HUGE struggle with a challenge grifo handmade set too! I ended up zip tieing the bead and rim together through the spoke gaps all the way to the final bit of seating the tire. felt extremely wasteful but i could not get these on for over an hour until i resorted to the zip ties
These things stretch quite a lot. So after inflating it once and riding it it will get lots easier to mount. So you can do it at the side of the road again.
Suggestion, I had the same problem, You had the tire on the rim with a TBLS, stem installed. What I did was to inflate the tire to seat the beads, Then deflate the tire, remove the valve, and remove the tire on just one side. With the bead seated on the other side , it gives you more room in the wheel drop center to make it easier to install the tube and bead, Also I finished at the stem, to to give more room for the bead to drop all the way to the center , also the valve is plastic, it can break or deform. Worked for me.
Yes, they are definitely the most difficult tires to install. Still, there is a way to install them withOUT a tire lever. I have done it several times on Farsports Hypers and DT Swiss ERC 1400 wheels. All you need is a bit of thick soapy water on the rim at the last final part of the tire to make it slip in the rim. And "pinch" them a bit differently to help the bids come in the center rim channel. BR, George.
I love Challenge tyres. Once you learn the technique they are easy to put on. If you get a flat they practically fall off and go back on very easily. Best this also is if you need to ride on the flat tyre it tracks along flat so your rim doesn't touch the road. I rode 4 km on a front flat once and it got me home safely.
i dont use my thumbs when putting on tyres, i use edge of my palms near my wrists to push. it takes getting used to but you can put out more force and less chance of getting painful blisters than using thumbs. that did look super tight though.
Yo GC, an old Italian bike mechanic in Taormina (Sicily), showed me his way of working with Challenge tires. Basically, he stretched the tires before mounting them with moderate force ... similar to tubulars. He used a screw clamp with a piece of wood and stretched the tire for 2-3 days at indoor temperature. ... shure this wouldn't work in a bike shop but for DIY mechanics pretty usefull.
Challenge tires are so hard - I will burst a vein trying to put one of these on. I have used the challenge tire tool with success - but still a sweat busting, blistered fingers exercise... Love the tires - especially for cross or gravel.
Nicely done. I was used with my Vittoria Mezcal on MTB wheels and they were super easy, but then I got a road bike with a Continental Ultra Sport 3 that was a nightmare, I even broke a tire lever when I was changing the regular tube for a TPU tube, but after a long battle I did it. By the way, have you tried the 'new' Ride Now ultralight tubes? They weight only 19g and I believe they're even cheaper
I picked up the Tire Monkey lever from Tru Tension and it's made changing tires night and day easier. Clever design that especially helps setting a bead
Wasn’t boring but really does make me wonder why I gave up on tubular tires. When I got a flat with them I could rip off the junker tire, throw on a spare (carried a light weight Tufo track tire for that), throw some Co2 in, and be on my way again in 2-3 minutes. With these modern tubeless tires if you flat you call Uber, like Daddy said.
Daddy few questions since you are the daddy. 1.I’m in Chicago windy and flats would you recommend Hyper R67 or R45? 2. I have 2015 tarmac Sworks their proprietary crank. I replaced the BB30 bearings with generic $65 wheels Manufacturing. However, I am not sure if those bearings are not good, but I don’t think that the crank rotates as easy as it shows. What do you think and what bearings will you recommend? Do you think that my current crank system is stiff enough, or should I switch the crack with Shimano dura-ace and press-for bottom bracket? Thank you daddy 😊
so Chicago I would say is very similar to where i am, over 40 miles of riding we get like 220 feet of elevation so I always go d67 wheels, and we are right on the east coast so I am riding on the beach so all we get is wind non stop, I have no issue with the d67 in crosswinds, I just know if it is windy out just ot be mindful of it. but I think you would benefit from d67 the most for the flats..... and second I know those cranks very well, if you can I would recommend going to a bb30 to shimano spindle and get a shimano crank... a solid sleeve bb machined out of alloy will give you more stiffness and more support, but this is only if you have the free cash to do so, if not then get the bb30 bearings from ceramicspeed if you want the best least resistance.... but i have installed wheels manufacture and they work very well, just check crank install because I know sometimes with that lock nut on the non drive side if it is not done correctly it can cause drag
@@GCPerformance18 Thank you for the response. You are on top of you staff 100%. Size 56 frame my height 5”11-6 would you recommend 172.5 or 175 length? Also, help me choosing the correct bottom bracket will be greatly appreciated. Too many to choose from. It’s hard. Thank you daddy 👌
Hey Daddy, use some Pedros tire levers or Cushcore tire levers. Pedros also has a fantastic tire lever made for getting unlimited leverage. Also and finally, cushcore has the Bead Bro that acts like a third hand and physically holds the tire so easily. Just a few tips. I call the Bead Bro the Challenge Bro because that's what I use them for. From one bike shop pro to another. Love your videos bro.
5 hours the other day spent trying to get hydraulic fluid bled through the hood and wouldn’t work. Disassembled each piece of the system to see where the blockage was. Turned out the older version of the red colored sram olives are a different size than the newer ones. Refused to give in and stubborn but that’s one more maintenance skill now I can say I’m comfortable with doing.
Valve stem area last. Pretty basic stuff. Mount about 1/3rd of the second bead and then tug the slack outward, then work the slack toward the unmounted section.
I installed last week 2 Challenge Strada Bianca H TLR 36mm on Roval Terra C wheels with TPU inner tubes. I followed the challenge instruction video. 15-20 mins per wheel and ready. As I am a totaI noob on tyre fitting (really!!!) and scared to damage the TPU inner tube on my first attempts, I used first a butyl inner tube to seat the tyre a first time on the rim and check. Then unseated one side and swapped the butyl for the TPU. Needed only 1 tyre lever!
I've just swapped these over to my new bike. Needed pliers with a rag doubled over in the jaws to pull them off the bead! Then it took 5 attemps to seat the bead using an Air Shot. The last attempt I had to pressurize the Air Shot to the maximum 160psi, this is with valve core removed! 😮💨
Did you try the bigger challenge tyres on the gravel elite wheels? It took me 20 minutes to get only 1 side of the tyre on my elite drive wheels. Second part made me chip my rim with the lever.. I couldn't get the tyre inflated once it was on there.. Couldn't get the tyre off my wheel after I gave up on the whole project. Went to my local bikeshop, and they needed 2 men for about 10 minutes to get the tyre off the rim. Lesson learned: spend some more money, and get the Rene herse tyres with actually better rolling resistance if you want to go the wider slick gravel tyre route.
Yup. I run Challenge handmade tubeless road and cross tires on Bontrager Aeolus Elite 35 wheels and mounting new tires first time is a brute, but I've figured it out. I use multiple flat screw drivers with cotton padding to protect rim. And water mixed with dish soap to lubricate the rim/tire. I think my tubeless tire/rim combination is worse than yours too. They are handmade in Thailand not Italy.
Heat them first in the sun and use plenty of talcum powder for the last push lube with some alcohol gel No tire leaver needed After riding for awhile these tyres are super easy to remove and reinstall Challenge tyres provide a very smooth ride I'm using 25C with tubes
Probably your best video ever....if this does not bring in retirement-level income, from this one video alone, there is no justice in the world! I humbly submit to your status as the ultimate Mac Daddy!
I mounted a new pair of 40mm on dt swiss gr 1600 wheels. Yes, they are tight but using the right technique I didnt really struggle that much. Start opposite the valve and put one bead over the rim working towards the valve, push and stretch down. Do the same for the other bead until its too tight to push any further. Go back to the side opposite the valve, hold and squeeze the tire between your fingers, wiggle it to move the beads more the center of the rim and work your way around the rim towards the valve. You should be able to get more of the tire on the rim - repeat until you have about 6-8 inches left to get on, use plastic tire levers to pop it on. For tubeless, spray a good amount of soapy water between the beads and the rim (spraying the outside wont do it) - i just use a simple window cleaner bottle filled with water with a bit of dishwashing detergent. Start pumping and keep pumping, the tire will start to seat.
Yes, I absolutely agree. There is no need to struggle. You (@GCPerformance18) just did it wrong. It took for me like 15 mins to install smoothly these tires on both wheels without any struggling. Inflate slightly tubes and install them first. Then follow this video - "The easiest way to install a Challenge Handmade tire"
I got my Challenge Baby Limus TLRs on okay but had a hell of a time getting them off, had to do the stand on the tire, pull on the wheel technique all along the bead on both sides to break the bead away from the rim walls.
Challenge tires are tough. I have some Baby Limus tubeless on my Rovals. Not easy to get on. Every time I use tire levers though, I rip the tape and I've been doing tubeless tires for like 12-13 years.
anything continetal is more difficult than other tires to install and remove. I lost a lightweight butyl tube when install an used unltra sport 3 onto my newly laced wheel. Kenda and CST on the other hand, can be put on and off easily, sometimes don't even need a lever to get the job done.
The best tire irons I've found so far were the Lezyne Power XL levers, super strong levers. I broke 2 steel core levers and a Pedros lever trying to put Schwalbe Amotion tires on a bike, and then almost broke my VAR tire lever. So I put the project aside and ordered a pair of Power Lever XLs and a Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack. Once those came in the mail I then used 2 reusable zip ties, and soapy water. So as I was put on the bead on one end the other end would come out, so I used the zip ties to hold the bead against the rim on one side so I could work on the other. Once I got to the point where the Power Levers were simply not going to work due to there being no space to lift the bead up and away from the rim and up and over the rim edge I switched to the Kool Stop, that thing slid the bead along the side of the rim and into the rim. That tire literally made a loud snapping noise when it went in. I did all the stuff you did too, making sure the bead was in the center of the rim, etc. I know you're laughing and probably thinking you could have done it without tools, you probably could have, but I'm 70 years old with arthritis in my hands and thumbs, and they were aching like crazy doing that, so tools help me out a lot these days.
I went through this the other day. After taking over an hour to install 3 TPU tubes and pinch flatting one of them with a set of new Conti 5000s, I decided to carry a butyl tube as a back up. There is no way I am going through this on the side of the road.
it's easy, after about 3 hours of my first installing these tires I found a trick. Just push the all the bead into the groove in the middle of the Rim bed. This works on all tubeless tires. But as for Challenge the tire tread folds into the rim so that's impossible to push the tire bead into the groove. I just squeeze the tire tread up, away from the rim bed, and leave enough space to push the tire tread into the tubeless groove of the rim bed. It works well. I have installed challenge tires with this trick many times. U Guys should know why there is a groove in the middle of the rim bed.
Having installed thousands of tires I can confirm that challenge tires are incredibly difficult to mount, but they’re worth it. S-tier tire especially for gravel/ unfair road conditions. Roll fast and SUPER supple
Aint gonna call you Daddy... But anybody that puts a tire on a rim and it doesn't even look like a tire until you put air in it, gets a cold one on me.🍺 Well done!
I tried installing those white wall R tires on my PCW 4550s.. they were impossible to get on. So I had to take them to my local shop. Nick said they were the hardest tire he’s ever installed. And he hopes that I never get a flat tire bcus I’d definitely be calling an Uber. Mine are tubeless setup. They leak sealant through the sidewalls. And if I don’t inflate them every 2 days they go flat. I’ll never buy another set of Challenge tires again.
yes they are for sure the hardest tires to install, once installed though they are easier to remove for flats its just the first initial put on..... as for the tubelss install, I have not had issues like that, maybe its just a one off, but i do not know
I was thinking the same. The front will hold air for a week.. the rear 2 days if I’m lucky. But I can say I don’t have any problems while riding. Just when they sit.
Great video Daddy and awesome work! Do you think you could use the same tire and Hyper carbon rim combo but with a Slime-infused tube so it will seal small punctures. That would take it up to the ultimate level. 😎
I've had good luck with tools like the Bikehand tire lever. Zip tying the tire flat near you're try to seat the bead works too. Otherwise good job on the demo. Looks like I staying away fromChallenge and sticking to Conti GP 5000's.
The tyre Glyder and gentle taps with a rubber mallet is your friend. You'll never swear at installing a tyre again, unless it's by the side of the road
Really entertaining video!! Challenge tires must ride and roll phenomenally. If they rode like every other tire on the market, they would go out of business because no one would buy these tires because of how hard they are to mount on a rim. But I will still stick with 28 mm conti 5000s with latex tubes on elite wheels. Best combo I've ridden ever. But I'm intrigued by Challenge tires. But I would be worried about fixing flats on the road side.
@@r0nz87no cause your tire is somewhat warm because you already rode it. That is if you were just on a one hour coffee break before finding out you need to change tires.
Shame you arent closer. I had a tire/wheel combo that 2 bike shops couldnt get on. I had to order one of those bead gripping tools to even get one size of the tire on. This was even after getting the tire on some other wheels and attempting to stretch it.
I absolute love the challenege to me this is classive bike shop, nothing tricky nothing that makes you scratch your head jsut all is needed is experience and patience
Wow! I made a mistake buying the Challenge Getaway 40 mm wide foldable model together with TPU tubes as an upgrade to my gravel bike. I have aluminium rims 19 mm wide that came with the bike. They are not tubeless-ready, hence I wanted to ride the new tyres on TPUs. Oh my God - I wasn't even able to fit the tyre alone, not to mention put the tube in. I admit - I gave up. I installed just TPUs with my old tyres. ☹
@@GCPerformance18 I don't deny their performance - I bought them due to the good balance between the tread pattern I was looking for and low rolling resistance in independent tests. The tight-fitting probably makes them better sealed on the rim, even without sealant, when running tubeless. But... I knew tubeless tyres could be generally run with tubes, hence my idea. This doesn't apply to these tyres, though - not out of the box, and not on cheap narrow rims that are not tubeless-ready. As you've shown, installing the tube is possible for an experienced pro, but I guess for normal mortals this becomes possible after riding tubeless for some time - after the tyre stretches a little bit. These tyres (with tubes) would be also very problematic with punctures in the field. And I'm not so much about speed but more about efficiency. I ride casually for fun - I'm not racing. I guess I'll keep them - perhaps at some point I will change the wheels too, and then maybe I'll switch to tubeless.
Haha! I always thought Marathon pluses were tough, but this a whole new level. No tyre is worth this, especially as they are fast performance tyres so will puncture
Saw this earlier and had a chuckle to myself since I can't even get my Challenge Chicane front CX tyre to sit on the rim properly all the way around it's that tight (wheel is radially true, tyre is just damn tight). Then I went for a ride this evening and got a puncture! Did it by hand though.
They're tight and annoying to get the sealant in because they lay flat but I managed without too much swearing! Getting them off however, they would NOT come off the rim edge (zipp 202 firecrest)! I had to use a thin screw driver, destroying the tyre and marking the rim in the process!
Reminds me when I had to use two hands and a foot when I first tried to get a conti tl tyre on a shimano rim. Tyre bead kept running away on me around the rim on that last hard section. Whatever I put on one side kept popping off rim on the other side. Took me 30minutes to put one tyre on! lol Lucky they had good puncture resistance as I knew if I got a flat riding, there was no way I was fixing that tyre at the side of the road
The hard part is to get them round on the rim - tried loads of times and I get high or low spots you can feel on the ride. ( not over the valve) any tips cause it’s a great tyre to ride on apart from the bump, bump, bump😂
I wish I had seen this video a few weeks ago. My thumbs took a few days to recover. These are so hard to put on. I popped a couple tpu tubes in the process too 😢.
😂🤣💪🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Brother you made my day with this Challenge Demo ! I use Pirelli P Zero’s , I gave up on challenge tires after numerous attempts , pirelli’s go on like butter ❤🙌🏼
Cheaters way is throw the tire(s) out in the sun for 20 minutes so it gets nice and flexy, then stretch out the bead by hand....step on the tire with one side on the floor, then pull both hands on opposite side with all your might. Rotate 90 degrees and do it again. Repeat a few times on both beads. The heat and mechanical pulling will stretch out the beads before you even try mounting it.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...I CANT BELIEVE YOUVE DISCOVERED THIS CHALLENGE TIRE! I MOUNTED THIS ONTO AN ALEOUS 27.5 CARBON TIRE... I COULD - NOT - GET THE TIRE ON! I SPENT DAYS! IT WAS REDICULOUS! WHY DO THEY MAKE THIS TIRE SO TIGHT?? LIKE NO OTHER TIRE! Just so happens, I found an actual plastic "lever," NOT a tire level like you have, but an actual, large, two part, leverage tool that hooked to the rim, and the tire, giving me a "handle to pull" that tire over the top...NO JOKE! Heres the thing however...the tire "bubbled at the bead...!" Thats right. After all THAT...1.5 months later, Im looking at the wheel from the side and I see a bubble right at the bead! I COULDNT BELIEVE IT! That is one of the most expensive tires to buy. THE HARDEST TO MOUNT OF ANY TIME. TOP OF THE LINE FOR FAST ROLLING AND WITH GOOD PUNCHTURE PROTECTION. And a new level tire puller later, it has a catastrophic failure at the bead! Thank goodness I wasn't riding it... My setup is a 2021 TREK SL7 Force AXS gravel bike. I ride 80% tarmac with this bike. Tire technology has gone into crazy overload! From weight to grip to puncture resistance, each brand has several tires deep now. Its a tradeoff from grip to puncture resistance (I run ONLY tubeless tires, with the new Silka, with carbon fiber pieces. I find it the best of all fluids). I've not had a flat in 3 years; lots of little holes. I ride a gravel bike in Los Angeles because the streets here mite as well be off road! Took me 2 months research, reading blogs, tests, and websites like Bicycle Rolling Resistance.com to end up with this Challenge Strada as one of the best rolling of all tires 38mm. I even combined my tires to try to achieve the fastest bike re the tires. I put Panaracer Gravelking SS TLC in front for a little extra turning grip (and again, one of the fastest rolling tires) and these Challenge tires on the rear. Relying on my weight in back to give me grip with the groves in front for turning. And after ALL THAT...THE TIRE FAILED! Ultimately, I put the Panaracers on front and back. The difference in rolling is not so much but they have performed perfectly...AND ONE OF THE EASTEST TIRES TO GET ONTO A RIM... I carry a TPU with me in case the liquid doesn't seal a puncture; just to get home in an emergency.
Hardest tyre ive had to put on was a shwabe marathon plus, 25mm onto a narrow rim. I had to use zip ties to hold it on as j went around otherwise it would all pop out.
I just installed these on my Carbon wheels and had to look on UA-cam if I was the only one struggling.. these tires makes the GP5000AS look like childsplay
no I got a cheaper option now I actaully stock the ride now tubes for sale because of th eprice, the vittoria and the pirelli are expensive even for me lol, I have a lot of wheels and 40 bucks a tire gets me
@@YTOnlineReviews I have no idea. I've only worked with full wire bead because that's what my friends who know more have always recommended. I also don't need new tires that often
Yes, folding tires use a softer mixed synthetic bead that has a little more flex so it can be folded compared to tires that can't be folded that use metal wire beads. Not all, but most non folding tires use metal beads because it's cheaper. Folding tires therefore will have slightly more stretch available than metal bead tires.
A little trick I do to get a super tight tire on my wheels is to use a little soapy water on the remaining 6-8 inches of tire. Once it starts to go it slides right in place.
My first decent wheels that were Xmas present 1991 had Wolber v profile rims and my parents gave me some Michelin supercomp hd tyres to go with them. Holy crap I gave myself tennis elbow getting those things on 😂 Luckily a few months later when I punctured they had stretched a bit and I could do them at the side of the road
Good effort! It would've been a bit easier if you put some talkum (baby powder) on the beads of the tyre before mounting it. But still, I also cannot mount these on modern carbon TL rims without tools. And why would I try this product overall if there are easier to mount competitors from other brands? I think Challenge is losing a lot of revenue by insisting in their ways, as they have done all the time.
Not gonna lie..... I struggled..... but you all have to call me daddy now
😁😁😁

Nicely done. I was used with my Vittoria Mezcal on MTB wheels and they were super easy, but then I got a road bike with a Continental Ultra Sport 3 that was a nightmare, I even broke a tire lever when I was changing the regular tube for a TPU tube, but after a long battle I did it.
By the way, have you tried the 'new' Ride Now ultralight tubes? They weight only 19g and I believe they're even cheaper
I picked up the Tire Monkey lever from Tru Tension and it's made changing tires night and day easier. Clever design that especially helps setting a bead
I have to check that out. As a mechnic though it’s like my job to be good at it lol
@@GCPerformance18 would love to hear your thoughts if you do pick one up and try it out! Great video here 👏
I have old Challenge tires that are stretched out and are still hard to mount, but they feel so nice.
challeneg tires once broken in are super nice
I've broken Pedros tire leavers on really hard to fit tires before. They are stronger, but they still break.
As I am
a totaI noob on tyre fitting (really!!!) and scared to damage the TPU inner tube on my first attempts, I used first a butyl inner tube to seat the tyre a first time on the rim and check.
man these tires are no joke. they are awesome once they are on and also once they are mounted they are easier to remove
Who needs an editor when you can improve like this?
hahahhaha thank you
Heat them first in the sun and use plenty of talcum powder for the last push lube with some alcohol gel
No tire leaver needed
After riding for awhile these tyres are super easy to remove and reinstall
Challenge tyres provide a very smooth ride
I'm using 25C with tubes
Probably your best video ever....if this does not bring in retirement-level income, from this one video alone, there is no justice in the world!
I humbly submit to your status as the ultimate Mac Daddy!
hahahah I am glad you enjoyed it, i was exhausted by the end and my thumbs were beat red when I went home but I had fun filminng this one
Love my turbo cotton on my Hyper wheels. Challenge and Conti are on my black list.
challenge and conti on reytnolds is a no go
I got my Challenge Baby Limus TLRs on okay but had a hell of a time getting them off, had to do the stand on the tire, pull on the wheel technique all along the bead on both sides to break the bead away from the rim walls.
Challenge tires are tough. I have some Baby Limus tubeless on my Rovals. Not easy to get on. Every time I use tire levers though, I rip the tape and I've been doing tubeless tires for like 12-13 years.
Now try it with a Victoria Air-Liners and sealant pre-poured - this is my Winspace D45 setup...it's the devil.
hell no take those up the street to another store it is impossiible
anything continetal is more difficult than other tires to install and remove. I lost a lightweight butyl tube when install an used unltra sport 3 onto my newly laced wheel. Kenda and CST on the other hand, can be put on and off easily, sometimes don't even need a lever to get the job done.
this video motivated me to finishing install the hardest tire in the world, almost give up, thanks
hahahah man do not give up keep going
I loooove Challenge tires. The Paris Roubaix were great. I have a pair of Strada handmade ready to go once these Roubaix’s are toast.
Roll fast and SUPER supple
yea there gravel tiores are amazing!!! I lvoe the company
Aint gonna call you Daddy... But anybody that puts a tire on a rim and it doesn't even look like a tire until you put air in it, gets a cold one on me.🍺 Well done!
hahahahha well thank you
Amazing. Well done buddy.@@GCPerformance18
yes that shit would ne insanly hard lol but i would try
I've had good luck with tools like the Bikehand tire lever. Zip tying the tire flat near you're try to seat the bead works too. Otherwise good job on the demo. Looks like I staying away fromChallenge and sticking to Conti GP 5000's.
Great tip!
Try putting a Specialized Armadillo Elite or Maxxis Refuse on a Campy Proton wheel, if you can find one. No longer made..
yea man it is nice
I just had the same fight with my Elves wheelset and some GP5000, the channel in the rim is not very deep, the hardest tire rim combo to date 4 me.
yes gp5000 on some rims are a nightmare I have heard the same with winspace wheels as well
The tyre Glyder and gentle taps with a rubber mallet is your friend.
Thank you os much!!!
Pro tip: Leave your tires in the sun for a few hours to soften the material.
Lol do if we got a puncture we have to sit a few hours to wait for the material to soften ? 😂
Man I had flashbacks putting my tan wall challenge strade bianchis on watching that video, amazing tires but damn hard to get on.
Hahahhaa we have all had issues
I used the Challenge tire pliers and two Schwalbe plastic tire levers to get those on the rims. It worked! Follow Challenge tire install video's!
very nice
I have got challenge tires down pretty good
@@GCPerformance18 I don't deny their performance - I bought them due to the good balance between the tread pattern I was looking for and low rolling resistance in independent tests. I guess I'll keep them - perhaps at some point I will change the wheels too, and then maybe I'll switch to tubeless.
powder makes it so much easier. and sliding the lever between the tire bead and rim is easier than prying like you showed
Pedro levers. Your welcome !
Haha! I always thought Marathon pluses were tough, but this a whole new level. No tyre is worth this, especially as they are fast performance tyres so will puncture
Schwalbe tire levers, amazing for finishing installing these kind of tires
very ncie
Saw this earlier and had a chuckle to myself since I can't even get my Challenge Chicane front CX tyre to sit on the rim properly all the way around it's that tight (wheel is radially true, tyre is just damn tight). Then I went for a ride this evening and got a puncture! Did it by hand though.
hahhahah my man!!! literally man handled the tire, the gravel tires and bigger sizes are obviously a little easier
I love your style and these videos are so great. Greetings from Belgium. Keep this stuff coming 👍
Thank you so much man!!! that means the world to me :)) hello from florida
They're tight and annoying to get the sealant in because they lay flat but I managed without too much swearing! Getting them off however, they would NOT come off the rim edge (zipp 202 firecrest)! I had to use a thin screw driver, destroying the tyre and marking the rim in the process!
challenge tires... the beauty is in the brand name... my record for fitting 2x challenge tires was 7 inner tubes - 5 pinched... total amater :D
hahahha that sounds nice!!
Put on my first set of challenge strada yesterday. First try just hands with tpu tubes.
Thanks for the tips!
I wish I had seen this video a few weeks ago. My thumbs took a few days to recover. These are so hard to put on. I popped a couple tpu tubes in the process too 😢.
it always stings a little more when those tubes are tpu lol
I'm gonna start screaming at my customers now. Best idea ever!
hahahah its the best
I have conti 5000 I just bought.... I want to put tpu in them .... I will attempt now after seeing your video.... thanks...............
Hahahaah best of luck and god speed
that tire will be hell when you need change your clincher tube in emergency puncture. i get that kind same experience with WTB vulpine
its not so bad once it is installed, so once mouinted it stretches way easier
This is hilarious! This made my day.
😂🤣💪🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Brother you made my day with this Challenge Demo ! I use Pirelli P Zero’s , I gave up on challenge tires after numerous attempts , pirelli’s go on like butter ❤🙌🏼
hahahahha pzeros are notoriously easy they are my go to tire for someone who wants ot have zero hassle instaling
Grant you are out of control 😂😂😂😂😂
Why he out of control buddy?🤔😬
lmfao
How can I help you?
hahahahha this is difficult, I hjave never used panracer
Challenge tyres are fantastic been running them for years but they are a bastard to get on sometimes
they are amazing i have them on my eleves and feel strait performance
Try a specialized t7 trail casing mountain tire on a bontrager line comp 30 with an insert.
Great Job !!!Proud of you :)
thanks so much
Hardest tyre ive had to put on was a shwabe marathon plus, 25mm onto a narrow rim. I had to use zip ties to hold it on as j went around otherwise it would all pop out.
I just installed these on my Carbon wheels and had to look on UA-cam if I was the only one struggling.. these tires makes the GP5000AS look like childsplay
hahaha just know there are others who endured the same struggle lol
French chalk or talcum powder helps as well!!!
God bless your thumbs!
Don't you use the Vittoria TPU tubes anymore ?
no I got a cheaper option now I actaully stock the ride now tubes for sale because of th eprice, the vittoria and the pirelli are expensive even for me lol, I have a lot of wheels and 40 bucks a tire gets me
Question: are folding tires easier to put on than full wire bead?
I think so. What do you think buddy?🤔
I recently got some Getaway Pro HTLRs mounted up on WTB CZRs by hand no levers and I felt like a god
nice!!!
Nice! Now do it without a tire lever! Shimano recommends no levers for there carbon rims!
We don’t sell SHIMANO rims that much lmao
You though that was "Hard?" Hold my tubular tyre and my cement bro 😂💀
hahahhaha
GC use some soap water to lubricate the edge of the rim and tire!
Bead jack for the win window cleaner on the rim
I had the same issues with Vittoria Corsa's.
those are a breeze compared to this
If during my next intimate situation I'll ask a girl "Who's your daddy?" and she says "Grant", I'll flip out 😆
A little trick I do to get a super tight tire on my wheels is to use a little soapy water on the remaining 6-8 inches of tire. Once it starts to go it slides right in place.
yea but then I cant brag about it to the homies lol
i have this tires. thes are super tight but also super strechty.
Daddy u are so capable. Thank you for showing to the world how to do it. Off me go to my LBS to ask the mechanic to install this set up 🤣🤣
My first decent wheels that were Xmas present 1991 had Wolber v profile rims and my parents gave me some Michelin supercomp hd tyres to go with them. Holy crap I gave myself tennis elbow getting those things on 😂
Luckily a few months later when I punctured they had stretched a bit and I could do them at the side of the road
