This might seem obvious to some, but something I learned from the MacFarren "Scale and Arpeggio Manual" book. Practice scales in staccato as well as legato. None of the other lesson books mentioned doing that. Didn't think of it sooner. It makes staccato heavy songs a lot easier particularly when one hand is not staccato.
That's a great tip definitely! You can also practice doing the right hand of the scale in staccato while the left stays in legato to get used to playing differences with each hand
