An hour reading vlog from Katie my day is complete ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤ I have been getting into classics myself so I love hearing you talk about them ❤ you're my inspiration
Emma is a good read. Not my favorite (that goes to P&P, closely followed by Mansfield Park), but it’s good. Don’t be scared off by the people who dislike the character of Emma. That was the whole point. Jane Austen wrote Emma because she wanted to write an unlikable character. You’re not meant to like her. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not the worst character ever, but you’re following her journey as she learns and grows into a more likable person.
love this video (as always!) a little tip on the bread, if it’s sticking when you’re trying to prepare the dough to let it rise, flouring your surface a ton and your hands helps a lot!
OMG hollow knight is my number one favorite video game ever, i am obsessed with everything about it. the game and enemy designs are so stunning and it's just such a cozy comfortable game, even though it is a lot of work and the bosses get extremely difficult. i'm glad to hear you're enjoying it🫶🏼
i completely went into yumi and the nightmare painter blind and without reading any of the cosmere novels. it is absolutely one of my favorite books of all time! a whopping 5 stars for me too 🙌 and the artwork is so good!

Just started reading Emily Wilde today because of your recommendation and I’m already loving the academic writing style and such. It honestly reminds me of the writing style of the Veronica Speedwell books a little too. Loving the hour long vlogs recently ❤
If you want to try cozy mystery, I highly recommend The Thursday Murder Club! The series is okay in the beginning, but then it picks up the pace, and the fourth one (The Last Devil to Die) had me ugly sobbing
Yumi is my favourite secret project! And the illustrations are so good! There was one moment I gasped out loud and kicked my feet with happines, and then I started crying lol You read so much! I enjoyed this vlog a lot!
This feels like the perfect vid for a rainy, chilly day like today 🌧️☕️🩵 I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Frieren! I’ve heard lots of good things about it but haven’t started it yet myself. It looks super cute!
I just read Yumi last week and it was my first Sando book and clearly I maybe should have waited but I still enjoyed it!! I also love Strange the Dreamer (an all time fave) and even tho the premise is very different, I feel like it gives similar vibes. I also read Crimson Moth that same week and it's SO good! I have the same copies of both books, as you. Gorgeous books, and great stories!!
I can’t wait for you to read Emma! I recently read it, and I really enjoyed it. I love the love interest, and although you’re clearly not supposed to like Emma (Jane Austen even said she wanted to write a “heroine whom no-one but myself will much like”) but I thoroughly enjoyed her. I felt that her unlikeableness was what made her human. I feel like a lot of readers might say they want a female character to be imperfect, but when an author truly writes an imperfect female character, people don’t like her, and then wish that the things that make her imperfect were changed. In my opinion, what readers seem to mean when they say they want a female character who is imperfect, they seem to instead mean they want a character who has small little quirks or habits, like being clumsy or biting her nails. (I am not talking about you or anyone in specific who does this! I have not noticed you doing this without giving good reasons for it, I just noticed a lot of others who do this) (Also, Sorry for this mini rant, I genuinely meant to just comment that I liked Emma 😅)

Honestly love it when you talk about Hollow Knight, because if I had to pick I would probably say it's my favorite game. I didn't like the fights either when I first started, but each boss kinda does its own unique thing and the whole concept really grew on me the more I played, so hopefully at least some of that happens for you too! However, if you like the exploration aspect of it, I would highly recommend you check out Ori and the Blind Forest and the sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It's heavy exploration and map uncovering, the art if gorgeous, all the critters in it are adorable and there are no bosses per se, so definitely a lot less fighting.
How do you decide what to annotate in a book? Do you notice themes as you are reading or do you research themes before reading? Would like to learn more about annotation. BTW I just finished Strange the Dreamer on your recommendation and fell in love with Lazlo and the book!

The 1995 adaptation with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds is PERFECTION, love it so much. It can be rented in all the usual digital places (Prime, Apple TV, Vudu, etc) but the library may also have this on dvd to borrow. Amanda Root does such a good job of taking Anne from a very kind of downtrodden, a little depressed "just get Anne to take care of everything bc we are lazy AF" person resigned to her lonely life to gradually finding her joy and sparkle again. The ITV 2007 adaptation is...fine. I'm kind of middling on the Netflix one - parts of it were not done well, but I did enjoy the 4th wall-breaking aspect bc it reminded me a lot of Austen's 3rd person narration style (even if it didn't fit Anne Elliot well at all) and the actress playing her sister Mary (same gal who played Marilka in the first episode of the Witcher) absolutely STEALS all the scenes she's in, I thought she captured that character so well.
Warning when you eventually get to Mansfield Park: the family is horrible and the heroine deserves a better ending. It's the only Austen book I will never re-read. I hope you enjoy "In the Company of Witches" when you get to it! It's obviously not Christie level (it's cozy, not a "proper" mystery), but it's still cute and I enjoyed reading it and the sequel, "When the Crow's Away"
do you keep summaries of what you read on notion to remember what you read for updates? i usually write little summaries on stickie notes in books or if it digital i just write it in a notebook
