A better set-up maybe to put rubber in the middle of the string and pull on the string so it would be clamp string rubber string clamp. So to not squish the rubber.
I don't know if it will make a difference or not but would be good to know
The plan here was to test the bead holding power, not the rubber. When mounted in the rubber under normal use it will be very difficult to pull to that high a break strain. I would also worry about how hard everything would shoot around the work shop if the rubber broke.
