    it says VG EX which is a grading system psa uses for miss cuts. notice the only place it says psa is for the logo
    P.S. VG EX 4 is actually equivalent to psa 8 or 9 (Very good-Excellent)

    Hey rudy, rebacks are pretty easy to spot for moxes. Just look at the zeto casting cost. A real authentic beta card has the zero shifted slightly to the right ik the grey circle. A reback aka collectors/international edition have the zero shifted slightly to the left in the grey circle. Hope this helps!

      Jay Kenley it's a custom set of cards from which you do drafts with.

    • @chrisperciavalle3142
      @chrisperciavalle3142 7 років тому +3

      yeah, everyone drafts your "cube", but obviously they don't keep the cards. you get them back at the end of the draft. basically, you shuffle up your custom set, or cube, and then randomly assort them into piles of 15 cards that you use as the packs. No need to break them down by rarity like a normal pack, because usually cubes contain all powerful cards, no "draft chaff" like you get in normal packs. I hope that explains the process a bit better.
      It's really fun. My friend had kinko's print out the MTGO Vintage Cube and sleeved it up and we cube draft with that.

And with the ones that have actual artlike beautiful signatures it depends, if its a big line you get their fat tip sharpie keep the line moving half ass sig not the nice one

It is like putting a document at your job in front of your boss and saying see isnt this special? Signature please. They only want to sign it for money and your card isnt any different than the guy before and after you getting it signed. I have people bringing me their entire card collection and wanting a lot more than what the cards are worth all the time. All card sellers go thru this all the time. I always have people for example want $500 for some 5000 cards, when the cards are in fact more closer to $50. Then these people would feel insulted when I give them a low offer of $20 for the whole collection. I could only offer $20 cause I can only get $50 for the whole collection. $500 is ridiculous and this person will never get that much from anybody.

    One video suggestion is talking about what 94 cards are more plentiful in higher grade and what's rarer in high grade. For example, most people didn't start playing with Moat or The Abyss until after 95 when penny sleeves became normal. These are cards that hurt both sides so players hated those cards in early Magic.

    just considering card condition to assign them a value is wrong. there are so many more aspects that should be considered. how playable a card is going to be in competitive play in the next future, how likely is it going to be reprinted (or banned), how well mtg as a game is going to do, how big is your business (and therefore how much you're going to save on ebay fees, delivery and so on, how many clients you have that trust you etc), how many of them you're buying at once (buying in bulk is always cheaper). there's a whole bigger picture to look at when you're assigning a price to something in order to resell it and make a profit out of it. an heavily played volcanic island is still going to be easier to sell than a beta bgs 9.5 monolith, just because there's more people willing to buy it and play it, and so even if it's worth less as a collectible, you're a lot more likely to sell it quickly, which is crucial in order to run a business.
    Would be interesting if you make a video that goes through all the processes of a single card since the moment you bought it and the moment you sold it on ebay, considering all expenses (buying cost, ebay fees, shipping fees, paypal fees etc) and how much net profit you got out of it.

      Basically cards have value because they see play. (Competitive play) the black lotus and power Nine are some of the most broken cards in the entire games history. They aren’t legal in nearly any format, except vintage. Which not many people play, since you need such an expensive deck. Duel lands have always been strong since the beginning, since fixing your mana pool is an incredibly important core of the game. (And helps lower randomness of basic land drops)

    Rudy you should open up a magic the gathering store in Santa Barbara, California. There is a high demand for magic the gathering. What I hate the most is My local lgs are all comic stores, and the fact that magic is becoming more popular they don't invest much in it. Not a single lgs has singles for stock, and every time I go to buy some booster packs they either don't have that set or they ran out. Extremely frustrating

    Nice video as always, Rudy.
    I have a question about the Library of Alexandria: You said you couldn't buy, even being a legit card, because of sharpie marks. Couldn't you just buy/sell it as Damaged?
    I'm not a collector, I buy my cards to use on my decks, and recently I got a Black Vise, which was very cheap. I though it to be a scam, but then I saw why it was cheap, the card is playable but not very pleasing to the eye. Still, I wanted to have it for it's use. I know you deal mostly with collectors, where quality is the name of the game, but, don't you think that Damaged cards would be a way to reach players that don't really care about quality, but function?
    Cheers from Brazil

    buy boxes instead and write down the order there printed in for instance how many packs in order before a certian card shows up like how many booster packs before a mistic rare shows up from a set point in the print chain then open one booster pack from a unopen box set to see where it is in the print chain then count the packs to find the super rare cards then pull those and sell all the unopened packs inbetween they print the in a predetermined order now days u just have to open a lot of boxes in order there on the pallet to figure out where the chain loops

    FYI: It was definitely evident that the autographed “Library” Card was touched up on the edges & corners with a Black Sharpie. The cross section of the edges looks like shit! They’re completely blacked out. The overwhelming majority of the cards were heavily played and not pack fresh. Therefore, the asking price was really high, especially, since you’re reselling them; you’ll definitely take a big hit. The auto’s look OK ~ if they’re on cards that were heavily played and were not gem mint! Good luck!!!

    I am not going to give an offer number, but I think you should set a general percentage return you think you can get in a year (Maybe an even shorter term, I don't know how power and higher end stuff moves). I don't buy and sell cards regularly, but you should have a decent idea of the turnover on these cards and how much you can get for them so include in your offer an amount that "guarantees" that percentage. For the cards with ambiguous liquidity, generate the sum with whatever you think is a reasonable discount rate and then discount additionally for the liquidity risk or perhaps just a salvage value based on what you are doubtful on. Whatever is left offer inflated bulk rates as there seems to be some good stuff in those miscellaneous boxes. The asking price seems more like it should be your target price to turn these over at best. Realistically, I would probably offer 30-35 with the expectation of making 50 after cost of doing biz within a year and maybe an additional 5-10 over time. You don't buy collections like these to make. How often do collections like this come your way? Every 6 months, every two years; perhaps you should look to make enough on the liquid stuff to buy another big collection based on the average time you come across similar lots. There are multiple variables that must be considered.

    • @cuff82292
      @cuff82292 7 років тому

      note, my numbers may be a little off but after looking at the table of value. I'd say the dual lands average to about 150 a piece (I counted 92 so roughly 14k), thae power is all in rough shape so lets average 800-900 a piece (X 19 = +-18K). Then maybe 3K for the rest of the table that gets you to 35K (Im leaning towards 35k for your sale price of these cards rather than the purchase price) The rest of the boxes contain maybe 2-3 K at best unless the EDH decks sleeved up are pimped out with high end land bases and money cards. so your looking at selling all this for 38K-50K+ (Not much more IMO). So given my above formula you can probably move 60% of the duals relatively quickly to net you 8-12K, 20-40% of the power 3-8K, 80% of the rest of the table 1-2K, 40% of the jank for 1-2K. 13-24K back on the higher turnover stuff. Doesn't seem good to me. My numbers may still be off, but I don't think that matters much based on the percentages you can sell quickly, especially if I'm being generous on the turnover (you have the experience with that not me, but I know moving power isn't always quick and can be costly, high demand duals will sell (US, VI, TI).

    First of all I think you understated how cool all those foils and signed cards from the boxes are. Obviously the cash value is modest but they were nice as hell and truly reflected an impressive amount of effort. I mean, even finding envelopes and stamps is challenging and I'm not even a true millenial. In fact I'm your age.
    My question is, how long can you afford to sit on those duals? I am guessing you'll want to sell a handful of them soon to keep cashflow in hand but doesn't it kinda make sense to hold most of them rather than trying to just make $10 (or less) apiece this year? And if you are in a position to do that, does it give you a little more wiggle room in the offer? After all, if you can give this guy a sweet payout, dozens of people are going to be mailing you cards (the economy is not being as kind to us as Wall Street claims).
    Lastly, can you also do some accounting of how much time you wind up spending analyzing the cards, formulating an offer, and then checking them into your inventory? If it's 20 hours of work, do you invoice that somewhere or is it just your gift to the universe and the 'tube?

    Just bought a collection. I have a small issue with counter fit cards in the collection. I have two sets of Verdant Catacombs all from Zendikar, however one play set has a bit better colour and is a bit more glossy then the other play set, is this a red flag or do different print runs sometimes produce slightly different finishes? Also I did a black light test on some and found it odd that the backs of some are a rich blue and others are more of an orange tint, then I looked at more cards from my own collection and found the same issue, do the backs of cards when under black light give off different colour depending on print run?

    Why would you crack the case of the lotus to sell it instead of leaving it in the case because of the 8? I still don't understand why vendors crack the case before selling high value cards?

    51 seems high to me. Especially based on all the imperfections in the money cards. None of them look like sure fire sells. A lot of those signed cards won't draw a premium because they aren't hugely sought after... does he have clean expeditions? Does it have clean fetches, modern staples...? Beta Sol Rings or Mana Vaults in good shape? Alliances FoW isn't what it used to be... Duals all looked somewhat played. I think I'd buy some legends boxes or old sealed product and pass on this.

    So basically cracking a case is done when it's a good looking card but people who know less about it will pay more for it. I like that. I keep watching these videos without even playing or knowing anything about these cards lol.

    Thanks for asking my opinion but that's why I watch your videos Rudy. To learn. To me, that's a beautiful collection and some real value is there. So if I could afford it and it would make me happy to do so, I would have bought it. I also know it shouldn't count but especially if I could afford it, it would matter to me how much the seller needed the money. The "invisible" hand and all that. This is a great video, cliffhanger and all. I'm really anxious to find out what happens. Screw Netflix yo'. (Except for the TICK, which is Awesome.) :3

      Coloring the sides with sharpie is basically just as bad as drawing a shit anime tiddies alter on the front of the card. It's considered a defaced card, and comes with the understanding that someone basically tried to fake its condition by covering up the dings on the edges.

    Rudy I'm a totally new viewer and I just like your commentary. Never played MGT in my life (used to play a lot of pokemon and yugioh back in the day though). Would you make a video/tutorial on playing in general? Or better yet, a review of all the major booster boxes and rare with prices? I just find your commentary entertaining but not all the plebs like me can understand =).

    Beware, inking old cards is a common practice on online markets (TCG in the US and MKM in Europe)
    My LGS does it before shipping cards they over-graded on MKM... and they're a pretty big seller there :/

    My issue with eBay is also how much I sell on eBay I always leave good feed back even if you take 7-10 days to pay for your order I respectfully after 5-7 days send a reminder to pay and still leave good feedback, but out of 51 sales this past month I got 1 person to leave feed back and I personally leave a hand written message with every order I send out and yet I got one person to leave feedback :(

    You should organize the cards by price next time and explain why you price them out. I am buying cards too but small amount that are on the revised list. I only buy cards at 60% or less market value because I am taking the risk that the game will fall apart or wizards decides to reprint revised listing cards.

    How does one price autographed cards? Ebay sold listings, or base card price plus a percentage?

    • @TheGhghgg
      @TheGhghgg 7 років тому

      TapTenMana there are a lot of things to consider. Is the artist alive? If they are show often to they sign, if they still sign at all? Christopher Rush and Ron Spears signatures are examples of signatures that would add value. Eric Deschamps and Rob Alexander sign a TON of cards, to the point where I wouldn't even add value to the card for their signature because there are so many in circulation and they still sign cards today. The most important thing to understand though is that to most, these cards are damaged so you're only selling to a select group and therefore you can't get too carried away with increasing price because it will be hard to move. There are FB groups that can help you value cards that are signed if you want.
