+alleleism you are right - her voice .. it's beautiful. I think Lea Solange and Anna Kendrick manage to get more emotion ... and i actually end up feeling broken along with them. Whereas Lauren's take on the character.. i sense more bitterness and anger. Different takes on the character... Lea and Anna devastate and think that is why so many attribute it as the best. I am more moved as well. It's difficult to sympathize with Jamie.
good point - a lot of versions of this songs emphasize the, "hurting," while Kennedy comes off a little more like someone who was unhappy in the marriage and knew she was unhappy, but wasn't quite ready to move on. Both valid choices, and lots of great voices to choose from.
I like this more than Lea Salonga's rendition. Though Lea's rendition is also good but i prefer this simply because I like the way the song was delivered and acted. What so nice about Lea is that she has this beautiful voice that would make any song she sings (songs that fit her instrument) sounds delightful.
@@lexschultz822 Currently obsessing with Lea's version because it brings out the hurt and I just cry and cry over the song. It's just pure sadness. While this version portray hurt and anger. Also, amazing version. But Lea's version is so so so pure hurt.
@@martmart2808 So what if she sang it on a concert and not a play? She can sing it on a subway station and her interpretation of the song would still cut through anyone's heart. Hope u know that too. ❤️
I used a UA-cam to mp3 converter on this video and saved it to my music like that :) I'm not able to find a copy of Lauren's version anywhere other than bootlegs, so I worked with what I could :/
Although Lauren originated the role, she chose not to continue with the show, opting instead to do South Pacific in London, and thus is not on the Original Cast Recording.

The best version I've heard of this song is by Carrie Manolakos. Great singing and such emotion. However, someone took it down and hopefully it will return.
I’m currently searching for any version where it sounds better than Candice King singing the last 4 lines in Vampire Diaries and still I have yet to find a better version and it makes me very sad
This is GREAT quality for a 2001 bootleg!
+Special_Effect True.
This is AMAZING. this is a hard song to act out because you have to look emotionless and numb while still portraying so much emotion.
Audrey Robertson Omg I might have a crack at it lol
there really isnt anyone that compares to this orignial performance. absolutely flawless from acting to singing
This is honest to God some of the best acting I've seen in a song ever.
This should be required study for anyone who would attempt the role. The flourishes she interpolates at the ends of the phrases are exquisite.
The flourishes are beautifully sung but I find them distracting. Good for a pop song but not an acting performance.
Amazing!! Simply the best version of this song, that energy and emotion is so powerful. I just enjoy it a lot!
Beautiful rendition! ❤
Yaaaaaaas! Can't wait to see this phenom take the stage as Mother in our production of "Ragtime"!!
This is beautiful. It hurts my heart when people say that Anna Kendrick's version is the best. I mean, perception is subjective but, like, really?

No Lea Salonga is the best
Lea Salonga' s rehearsal video is like poetry which was raw and pure.
breaks my heart this scene everytime. this whole play makes me cryyy ohh goddd
I love the emotion and acting 😍😍😍
This night i heard Lizzy Mc Alpin with this song. Was a dream.

i feel as if this version portrays more bitterness and anger while lea's version is all about sadness and hurt. its about perception.
+thatdamlex wow you're amazing

@@goblinsbride5848 well but btw, lea sang that for a concert, not for a play. hope you know the differences

She does actually look like Anna Kendrick here
or she resembles her maybe that's why Jason Brown picked Anna Kendrick for the role
Do we actually have the whole show with her?
If you're interested, I actually have the full show in THIS quality-- this was just an excerpt from the full video! E-mail me at legotronn2 at gmail.

munching, eating, devouring, swallowing, vomiting back up, eating again, etc.
Been going through different performances of this and finally found one that makes me appropriately upset with Jamie.
Lea Salonga is the best version of it....
Lea's version is far better than this
I like this, but that same little riff she keeps doing at the end of phrases is really crap and jars with the honesty of her performance.
If you mean when she sings "hurting," I actually think that's written into the score.
It's written like that. Bad writing as opposed to a bad performance choice.
Fen Greatley-Hirsch I like it because it shows that even though she is heartbroken, she still has control over herself.
It’s not written in the score and I agree that it doesn’t fit the song.
I have a problem with her timbre. A tad shrill.
