That was an outstanding interview. I loved it. The videography and editing was great too. I think that is the prettiest sump set up I have ever seen. Wonderful work all around.
@@NathansReef Just re-watched this video again. Just wanted to ask, do you find that the captive bred yellow tangs are as vibrant as the wild caught ones as they reach maturity? The ones in your display seem like nice specimens compared to other captive bred yellows that I've seen.
@@justinthibodeaux1460 yes, they are just as vibrant when they mature. I have one wild caught yellow tang and the captive bred are now have the same vibrant yellow 💛
Beautiful aquariums Nathan. And great video work from than. I’m an orphek user also, I just love the crisp white/blue you get with them. Looks great, excellent colors, and easy to photograph.
Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh. I wish I could have this Reef Aquarium in my kitchen, bedroom, living room and bathroom. HAHAHAHAHA. It is so.............so beautiful. Oh my gosh, Nathan is very smart. I am just wondering how much ? Oh my gosh. Love
I am one of those guys with the 13.5 gallon nano. :) If I was to expand, I would go to multiple small tanks with species specific, mushroom tank, lps tank, and sps tank.
Great video, it's actually really good to get an in depth conversation about how a person runs their reef tank rather than the quick gloss over many people do, really enjoyed this, thanks.
love your work! soothing voice and great camera work. i am also a fan of daylit aquariums, but love how the fluourescence pops under UV/BLUE. greetings from Australia!
Your colors are really looking much sharper compared to the last system bro. I think that DSB had some lingering nastiness that was affecting your colors. Great to see a shallow sandbed in this tank. Looks excellent. Tangs look super happy. Merry Christmas!
Than, very nice interview with Nathan. His main display and frag tank look great and it was nice to see everything went well relocating his fish & corals. the planning on this project shows. Great job Nathan. Does he have an IG acct?
That yellow tang caught a nasty bacterial infection. A few years ago I think it got into a little sparing match (I think with the yellow eye kohl tang) and got a small cut, well that got infected and it started to eat away as some scales and the fins. It then started getting bullied and stopped eating, it was so worn out I was able to just scoop him out of the display tank and put him in the frag tank where things were much calmer. I got him to eat and nursed him back to health. He healed up but the fins did not grow back. He is once again back in the new bigger display and doesn't get picked on by anyone.
Very inspiring, thanks guys for sharing this awesome tank 👍. What area I would be interested in hearing, pest management on this tank? No aptasia or vertimid snails ? Lucky guy 😂
If you have success in growing the corals, at some point you will have to trim them and hopefully sell them. Thankfully over the years the tank has started to pay for itself. Patience and consistency is key. Good luck on the 120!!
How do you feel about 5 orpheks over that tank size satisfied or could use a bit more light? And how does the orange spot not destroy your sps i thought they mainly eat acro?
I really like the coverage I get with 5. At max settings the lights are stronger then I wanted, par over 750 near the top and over 200 at the bottom. The orange spot does nip at sps polyps so the polyps are closed during the day. Growth and coloration are both good on the sps despite the Orange Spot.
Little spill.... I had a hex tank that was only 40 gallons in my dinning room/living room and lost around 30 gallons cause my silicone game wasn't good I had so much water on my floors it was insane. Even 1 gallon is nutz try it in your kitchen sometime
Hi, two questions, the orange spot harlequin file fish, was it added early to get it to eat, how do you feed it and keep it alive? My second question is do you have a clam in the main display, should I be concerned about multiple similar wrasses you have and having a clam?
I got this orange spot file fish as a juvenile. I saw her at a store and she was already interested in eating prepared foods. This one eats prepared foods, sustainable aquatics dry hatcher diet pellets, mysis and spirulina enriched brine. I have had her for over 7 years and while she does pick as sps polyps causing them to hide during the day, it does not seem to hinder growth or coloration of the coral. I do not have a clam in the display tank but I do not think any of the wrasses I currently have would be a threat to a clam.
Hanging Parts: M8 Roll-in Spring T-Slot Nut - amzn.to/2FmuQBM M8 Ring Eye Bolt - amzn.to/3jPptd4 These will fit fine into a 1.5” x 1.5” T-slot extrusion. I got mine from alufabinc.com and they will give you a discount if you mention Tidal Gardens. I got mine in black anodized which is a little more expensive but it matches the top of the fixtures and I also got black plastic end caps. Theoretically, you could mount the rail almost flush to the wood if you wanted. Those Roll-in Nuts accept an M8 screw, so you could get like a 35mm or so stainless M8 screw and washer (amzn.to/2SIybhv) and send it through the wood into the rail.
That first comment is everything to get the rails mounted onto a wood board like mine in the video. Once they are on, the screw heads on the top of the Atlantik slide right into the T-slots of the rail.
I guess I just never thought of 24/7 water changes because it sounds expensive but thats interesting. I'd like to watch a video on the benefits of that versus just having a good weekly water change
Than, at 42:50 you’re talking about some sound proofing to put on the inside of the doors. What’s that? “Dynamat”? Do you have any link to that product? Would like to look into it.

Use a lot of primer, a lot of glue and wait for it to set up or else you will get gaps between the joints, find someone on UA-cam to imitate for your build exactly. Monkey see, monkey do.
It sounded like he didn't quarantine the yellow tangs that he put in the display tank? Can you confirm if he did or did not? I'm copying your QT tank setup that you and Jen just published. But curious about Nathan's situation also. Thanks for all the great videos.
I did not QT the yellow tangs. They were captive bred and I took the risk of not QTing them. However, when I added them to my new display, I still had the old display tank running on the other side of the room with most of my fish over there, so the groups were not exposed to each other right away. I did QT the powder blue and powder brown. However, there is ich in my system and has been for years. It does show up on the Achilies, Powder Brown and Powder blue at times. I would recommend QTing as Tidal Gardens is now doing.
@@charlesleslie4752 I feed well and the fish get a sheet of seaweed a day. I do have a large UV, but that still doesn't stop the ich. The ich has yet to ever become a full blow crisis or overtake and kill a fish, but the is always a couple fish with some spots. So, it is managed but not eradicated.
