  • Episode 57: Kiss album review 50th Anniversary!
50 years... let that sink in. Your parents or grandparents tuning 50, or their 50th wedding anniversary are milestones that people celebrate. When its music or a movie, somehow that seem bigger or it's something that you can't wrap your head around. We say things like "I can't believe that is the 50th anniversary of that! It's even rare when is music and the band is still together ok in some form I get it haha touring the world. KISS has been a band for 50 years last year in 2023, now their first album at the time you are reading this has just turned 50... yours truly (Rob) just turned 50 himself. I am older than this album by 8 days. Nick is 7 years older than the band to put it into perspective. This is a big event. It all started with this album! Whatever era, lineup, album, song, or member is your favorite... none of it would happen without this album! Nick, Nikko & Rob will take you through track by track of this historic... and kinda slow album haha.

Great to see another RBTE episode!! You guys never fail to make me smile and laugh 👏 50 years of KISS!! I'm so grateful for this band and all the friends I've made along the way, including you 3! I can't wait for more video episode this year 🔥
The first album is one that I don't often revisit, but when I do I am reminded of what makes KISS' music so great in the first place- great riffs, solos, vocal harmonies, multiple singers, singable songs... on and on and on. It definitely is an iconic record not just in KISStory, but in ROCK history 🤘

Great discussion! I think for me, this album get more important the older I get. The more you look at these songs, and think, 'these were young guys, first time making a record (2nd if you count Wicked Lester), and they write these songs? Songs that have lasted 50 years? Songs that have kept them a touring act for 50 years? That's Beatles type stuff. Legendary songwriting. That is what makes this album so special for me. Really enjoyed this. I will 2nd Thom Dust, what Nick says at the 1:15:00 mark....holy smokes. Game changer. Great video. Wishing you all the best.

thanks for the comment my friend. Awesome point that Beatles magic right there. How may bands first albums have stood the test of time over a longer span? it's usually a mid-album that is the memorable one. Look at Journey for example. Its not till you get a few albums in normally that really breaks a band. But even if its a first album. by the time you are on album 10 or 11 how many of the first album songs last? In KISS' case... almost darn near all of them! Thanks Ric!

I don’t want to leave a “spoiler” in your comment section, so I’ll just say that Nick makes a fantastic point starting at the 1:15:00 mark in this episode. That could have indeed changed the entire attitude of the album, even the tempo. That being said, I personally wouldn’t change a thing about the debut and consider all three of you blasphemers!!😂

yeah. that was a great point. They become this whole other animal in that make up. that might have transcended of to the recoding.
