In this intriguing video, Ms. Ann Marie invited us into her home, in deep rural Westmoreland, to show us how to make traditional and authentic Jamaican coconut oil!
The same one used to make the famous 'coconut rundung'!
She took us through the complete steps, from husking to washing, grating, squeezing/straining, creaming, and then boiling!
Yes, I agree, it is tedious, but a completely fulfilling and rewarding process since we were able to enjoy the amazing health benefits of freshly made (homemade) coconut oil!
And listen, it is not just for food, you'll learn also that it is great for digestion, skincare, hair, and even colds! You are in for a treat!
And, please, be sure to learn more about the amazing health benefits of coconuts in this article on my website at: www.my-island-jamaica.com/jam...

Did you know that the coconut is one of the most versatile product of Jamaica? There are so many uses but I will just name a few. Back in the days we use to have mattresses made from the outer layer ,the husk which cover the hard shell. My father used to cut brushes from both ends of the coconut which we use to shine our floors. The shell we used for fire. The water from the young ones is refreshing and is good for your nerves. The flesh we use for coconut drops , cakes and desserts, and the milk to cook our rice and peas , for soups and to make our run dung with salt mackerel or salt fish with our ground provisions. Coconut taste good in everything.

I learnt to make it from my great grand mother in rural Westmoreland, she used to do one hundred on a tall greater. Nowadays I make the virgin one without heat. Very good oil to have at home. I take a spoonful at nights too. I also use it after I shower instead of lotion. Hats off to you Annmarie.

I use the cold pressed coconut oul for hair. It clears up dandruff in the very first use, just apply generously, cover with a plastic cap for about 30 mins then shampoo. It can be used as a daily hair dress also, makes hair soft even the toughest texture. Great for moisturising skin but do not leave it on your face if you have oily skin.

'Jamaica can survive from Jamaica with all of it's natural resources'. That phrase should be put on banners all over the island. Foreigners are rushing in to profit from what we have, while some of us are running away and some are killing each other over foolishness. If we only take some time to appreciate each other and what we have, what an even more wonderful place this would be. Lord, help us. 🙏

Wesley this is a gem that I have been waiting for ❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇯🇲🇯🇲. I LOVE handmade Jamaican coconut oil!!! It is a far different taste and texture than the stuff you get in the store which are usually from Sri Lanka, Phillipines or elsewhere. If you can, buy a bottle of real Jamaican coconut oil and buy a bottle of other coconut oil. Take a spoonful of each and look. The Jamaican one will have a creamier color and texture. Then smell: the Jamaican one will smell nutty and yummy. Now taste: the Jamaican one will ignite your taste buds to another level. OMG I'm making myself hungry for some roasted breadfruit with saltfish and the custard on the side ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wesley, we'll talk soon. BIGup yourself ❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

No, NO, you do not want one with creamier color or texture. You want one that is completely transparent but will gel within 15 minutes when you pour some in a glass and place it in the fridge. You will get the same gelling if you place EVOO if the mafia did not get to it first and bastardize it.

People in my area that used to
Make coconut oil never wash the coconut they did it two ways you can leave it overnight
Or do it stove and allow it to come up( not boil) skim the top and then boil (don't like the idea of putting it in the fridge overnight) think it kill the yealing
Process they never stir the oil
I enjoy watching you do this
    It takes time and patience

In the U.S., the coconut oil lacks that nice aroma that Jamaica's coconut oil has.
It also lacks flavor (sort of bland), but when it's used in baking, it provides moistness.
A couple years ago, there was a trend called "oil pulling" where it was suggested that to strengthen teeth and gum, swish coconut oil in your mouth for around 20 minutes.
I don't hear much about it anymore, but at the time it was popular on the Internet.

Kicky it is bland because there's no salt added to it just like the castor oil where some unscruplous people put salt to cut off your hair.

Such a wonderful person and video. My mother used to do it every Saturday. We had to help her grate the coconuts. The best part is the custard and that goes well with roasted green bananas. Thank you very much for another informative and wonderful video. Please continue with the good work 👏.

I used to buy hair oil from the local shops and the amount of chemicals in them impacts on my health and made my hair horrible. I then changed to coconut oil on it's own and its the best thing I've ever done. Now, it's the best my hair has ever been and help my hair to grow back.loved the video and will start to make my own after seeing your video. Thank you so very much..
