I already knew almost all the stuff discussed in the video, but Mr. Blackledge's presentation was so pleasant, enthusiastic, and entertaining that I watched the whole thing from start to finish. I understand that one goal is to keep the video from being too long, but the "keyboard" discussion got short-changed. There is a lot more to keyboards than was discussed. One of the most important differences is the separation of keyboards into those that are sound generators and those that are software controllers (MIDI controllers; where the sound is not generated by hardware in the unit, but by software in a computer or other device). That would have been a nice discussion to have added to this video. But it was a very nice video, nonetheless.
Hal, I'm in Calif.. Going to piano for the first time. I'm interested in the one's that he only mentioned; "Digital piano with Keyboard features".. Since you sound knowledgeable, would you recommend a, (have to buy used), Yamaha YPG 535? {Short on $$ 'till I sell a few guitars} BTW, I'm into Am Country music so have to pick a model that I can amplify the volume, as if I were at a gig.... Thanks in advance for the advice, DjF
Totally agree with you about the short change of the keyboard. I addition because the rythm was so loud it was dificult to hear the playing of the lyrics. Given that he had played the beginning of Fur Elise on both the acoustic and digital pianos why not do this on the keyboard? If he had then he could have shown the versatility of the instrument by changing the voice, say from piano to organ.
@@djf2918 - I apologize for not replying sooner, but UA-cam never notified me of your comment. I am not sufficiently knowledgeable about all the many keyboards available to suit any particular needs to be able to provide you with valuable advice. I have an AKAI MPK249 which is used in conjunction with Ableton Live and various software plugins on my computer to generate sounds. It is not the most elaborate keyboard available, but the price and performance is quite impressive. If you want the opinion of a guy who really knows his stuff, search for Music Monkey on UA-cam. He has (or has tried) almost everything.
This was the most rich, helpful and insightful short presentation of acoustic pianos, digital pianos and keyboards I have ever watched. Thanks for the video! It's being really helpful for me who is just starting to learn to play the piano. Keep up the good job!
Actually well explained. The first guy that explains piano to non-musical folks with enthusiasm, clarity and knowledge without sounding pretentious or looking down.
you are really fun to listen to! I get bored easily with tutorials but you got my attention! i learned a lot in less than 15 minutes! this is great! thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video! I have a small 61 key touch sensitive keyboard. I was wondering if my keyboard was faulty because when I would enable the touch, it would be kind of difficult to maintain the sound at a constant volume. But now I know that I definitely need to upgrade soon to a digital!
Thanks for a very good demo. I teach piano, organ, keyboards etc here in Australia and I'll use your video for explaining these differences to some of my clients as there is a lot of confusion in the general public as to what instrument does what, many thanks. Very well done.
Just a tipo bro (which you may already know, maybe). Put the time where it happens in your comment (for example, 13:00, I don't really know if it was in this time, just an example). This way people who are reading your comment can jump right to the point in the video and see exactly what you whished they pay attention to!
Just wanted to say, amazing video. One of the best explanations to ANYTHING I have seen on youtube. I admire someone who loves what they do and it seems you truly do. Thank you and all the best
thank you for this video, I already have a keyboard and I was thinking whether or not I should get a digital piano, and now after this video I've decided to get one, I have trouble with space in my room, and having 3 big musical instruments (Electric piano, keyboard and drums) will be a bit difficult but I'll find a way
Well done. Very nice video for under 15 minutes. I know it's not going to make anyone an instant professional (that doesn't happen anyway, especially to me), but you still did a great job of giving a great layman idea of what the differences are. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to learning more from you.
Thank you thank you for doing this video. You have help me so much. No one has explained to me the difference between acoustic pianos, digital pianos and keyboards. You have done a excellent job. Keep it up for us who are newbie's out here trying to learn from the best. :)
The guy in the video is just too good. Even the little he played wowed me. I hope to be able to play like that some day. Well done. This video was very informative. It really baffled me to find out that here were some people who disliked the video.
Thank you for a very interesting explanation of the 3 differences in instruments. I thought all the hammers on a piano were the same physical size. You certainly know what you are talking about and also a great musician. Thanks again for sharing.
Buddy, i am seriosuly speaking you are just awesome, i have seen lots of suck genres of videos, but this one just blows away, time just flew with your style and learned too much information being high alert. What could i do to help this channel sky rocket, just say it man....will do the best i can
An excellent and comprehensive explanation of the different instrument types. I'm trying to buy a keyboard/digital piano and this really helps. Thank you Graham for sharing.
One thing missing is 'organ' which has similar unweighted action to your 'keyboard'. Many who play piano, organ and synth (or learnt on organ) prefer to play with an unweighted action board, for organ and synth, and often have either both types, or compromise on one or the other, depending on how much of each 'style' they play, or how much they can compensate with the 'wrong' keyboard.
I'm intrigued by the hybrid you mention. I'm looking for an 88-key digital piano that you can tote around like a keyboard, has at least a few pre-programmed rhythms and has the variety of sounds that a keyboard has but has the authenticity of sound and the "real piano" feel of a digital piano. Right now I use a 76 key keyboard that has some things that make it a little like a digital piano, but for the style of music I make (I play my keyboard like a piano for the most part, rarely using the rhythms but I like to have them for those occasions when I want to do something different, but generally I put in a sound and play a song with that like one would play a piano). It's worked well for the past two decades but I'm thinking a digital piano that leans a little more in the keyboard direction while still clearly being a digital piano would work out best for me. Have any ideas/suggestions?
I play all and I found this entertaining to watch as well as educational. I definitely learnt a few things that deepened my appreciation for the instrument and I cracked up when he played the keyboard! 😂 this was just an all round awesome video 🎹🎹🎹
So nice explanation 8) It was pleasure to listen. And it looks like Mr. Graham can sell any kind of instrument to anyone, they are so good as he describes :) Thanks, like!
Thanks Graham! This is an absolutely class video and explanation! Very informative. I'd love to drop by your shop! I'd buy everything given your enthusiasm, friendliness, and helpfulness! Cheers and keep up the great work.
This was an excellent video.. Thanks for doing it.!!! Would love to see a video on how to buy the right piano for different levels also for the keyboards as well... All the best for your upcoming videos too :)
I have never appreciated a piano as an engineering marvel but it is; who in the world even thought of something like this let alone design and build it??! The older I get, the more I realize how little I truly understand in the world. What a wonderful video and pleasant gentleman. 😊
Man I only wish other instructors were just as fun and interesting to listen to as this gentlemen.
Thank you . All the best Graham
Excellent presentation skills! You should become a youtuber. You'd help millions of people around the world.

Your explanation about how the actual keys and hammers etc worked helped a lot to understand the difference thanks.

Thanks Matheus, it's been pointed out before. We've since replaced the scratched lens.

It's really annoying
Makes me anxious
Phew..Thanks!!! I kept rubbing my screen to clean it. I even thought I have developed eye sight issues.
This was so necessary for me !! Thanks so much!
You did a nice job contrasting keyboard and piano. Many thanks!
Just wanted to say, amazing video. One of the best explanations to ANYTHING I have seen on youtube. I admire someone who loves what they do and it seems you truly do. Thank you and all the best

You are a good teacher.
Great video! This guy needs to make more videos.
Thank you for this video! I've been trying to play on my Casio WK-245 keyboard but I feel like getting a digital piano would be better for me!
I found this in 2019.. Very nice and good presentation. You make easy for people to choose between them.

I'm guessing Für Elise is to piano stores, what Stairway To Heaven is to guitar stores.
We sell both at our stores, but stairway access is never denied! Play whatever you like when trying out any of our instruments!
Good job very informative explain very clearly
Cool explanation!
