Decades ago I was just back from my honeymoon when someone knocked at my door. It was a Scientologist trying to recruit new members. There began one of the most disturbing encounters of my life, culminating with this guy trying to literally break up me and my new husband. I immediately told him I was not interested in Scientology. He sensed my husband was more vulnerable to recruitment (he was), because he was naive back then. So I’ve got this guy standing at my door who won’t leave, trying to talk my husband into divorcing me and to then join Scientology after we split up. At that point I told the guy to get off my front porch or I’d call the police. That’s when I knew they were a cult.

How strange it all is! That intense person, trying so hard to break up your marriage, was probably under extreme pressure to bring back some new recruits. I used to have a list of questions to put to those door-to-door people to help THEM to start questioning their cult. I did it in a fun way but they soon stopped coming to my door!!

@@tracesprite6078 afaik, scientology is a lot about how much you can give. Those door-to-door people are not the highest up in the chain. To be allowed to go up, they need to deliver money.
Leah Remini explained it well, how they have "secret knowledge" that only higher ranks are allowed to access. they basically hype it up and tell the members that only if they deliver money and work their way up can they receive all the knowledge.
Like for any other door2door saleseman, all that matters for them are the numbers. If they sign more new members than others, they get a raise. that's all there is to it.

I live in Austin and I had a business here in the 90's. My bookkeeper was a devout Scientologist. I hated it because she was such a good, moralistic woman, and I trusted her implicitly. Her and her family were so poor because they gave all their money to the cult. I went to the building with her to try to understand it. They opened a file on me..I sat and watched the movie and I did the cans. Never once did I understand how anyone could buy into this Theology. I gave it the good old college try in an amazing building, but ewww..I hope she's ok. I couldn't believe the location. It seemed like a big sore in the middle of a thriving area. Crazy...

I have a friend who is a devout Scientologist and she took me to a church open-house. Just for giggles and fits, I tried the free auditing (the cans). The auditor told me the e-meter showed I was under stress. I said, "No kidding. I'm homeless" and walked out. Later, my friend told me that she was saving up for a course that would enable her to-wait for it-walk through walls and levitate. The cost? $19,000.00.

It doesn't surprise me at all that there are only 120 Scientology members in the entire city of Austin. When I was involved in Scientology in Toronto in the 80's, I would estimate there was at most about 200 active members. That's a very small number in a city of over 2 million people. When I was involved, the Church of Scientology of Toronto occupied an 8 story building on Yonge St, the main street downtown. Since 2013 the building has been empty and boarded up. They're now in a smaller facility in a more remote area of the city. It will be a great day when this pathetic cult fades away forever.

Went to Austin Natl Bank in he mid ‘80’s with a client/friend to get a bank loan. We were introduced to a VP. As we entered his office, client (she grew up in PA or somewhere in Northeast US) she noticed a shelf full of Scientology books. She says: “L Ron Hubbard! He was the roommate of our family friend when they were in college. One day when they were sitting around talking as they were broke, Hubbard said “I’ve figured how to get rich, I’m going to start a religion!”” This banker’s face went from a big smug smile to pure shock! They didn’t get the loan, but that banker seemed to have a reality check!

Something similar happened in Toronto. Toronto org was the continental org. It owned an 8 story office building in downtown Toronto with a large Div 6 area right on the corner, lots of foot traffic, a restaurant, and space to spare. Part of the building was rented out so expenses would also be covered. Then along came the Ideal Org strategy. The org, including the CLO which was also housed there, moved out to a much less desirable location. The tenants also left, including the restaurant. The building was boarded up in preparation for renovations which never started and has remained in this condition for years now.
Maybe someone has some current information on the state of the org. I'd bet my bottom dollar that its in very rough shape now.

Turning a whole town into a ghost town in such a beautiful place says so much. These things have ultimately not just harmed those they intended to but Scientology have been their own undoing.

I have a 24 years old son. What I see in Gen Z, is that they are not very interested in Spirituality at all. They are all more interedted in science and science fiction. My son repects Buddhism because it is more a philosophy then a religion and it is very free. And of course they all saw the Xenu video so for the young generation finds scientology a laughing stock.

I was never a scientologist but I knew a few people ; read Dianetics in the early eighties , was sceptical but sort of live and let live. My youth was cult andd Guru time. I am born in 1960, was a Hippie and a Buddhist , but I had lots of friends which where Oshos Sanyasins or any other westernized Hippie spirituality. I fellt the change between the LRG times and the Miscavige times strongly, because it was only then that my scientology friends brike contact totally, before there was still at least one or the other dinner or phone call. The next great incision I fellt was when Katie Holmes went and how she went. And the fact that she did not say a single word why she had left him like a thieve in the night made it worse. Scientology was allways sus, but not as sus as afrher that. If she was so afraid of the chuurch that she had to take her daughter and flee, it must be something major was the perception of me and many of my old Hippe friends. And then off cpurse came Leah Remini snd you and all the rest. So I believe the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes story had definetely s great impact in public perception towards scientology.

A-Aron, you need to start a call-out to all the SP's and SP supporters. Do a video where you plead for the plight of these poor uniform lacking Scientologists, and ask "Can you help". These poor underprivileged Scientologists don't have uniforms, how can they possibly continue to clear the planet?
Then the call to action - "If you have spare uniform clothes in a closet somewhere, please send them to ... (insert address of SCN building in Austin). It will help greatly. It doesn't have to be a Xenu outfit, any uniform will do. Have a spare uniform from an old Blockbuster Video? Great! Something from Toys R Us or Radio Shack? That works too. Maybe an old postal carrier uniform or something from Hooters? Any donation can help these poor uniform-lacking Sea-Org members. Your donation will be greatly appreciated." I'm sure SP's and SP supporters would be happy to help these poor sea org members lacking uniforms.
I would love to see how much stuff shows up.

I'm beginning to think that Miscavage is _planning on letting the COS die when he does._ He's collecting all the cash, knows the "heyday" of Scientology is long gone, and is just hanging on so he can live HIS tax-free life, hanging with a no-longer young, no-longer handsome Tom Cruise. He's got one more flop of a movie left in him until he's considered box-office poison, a has-been, just like the COS. Scientology won't be around in 20 years - just Miscavage & the ghost of Shelly. Xenu won!
