Paul and Ben are great examples of a Dad investing time and skills in their boys and then they pass it onto their boys. Our world would be a much better place with engaged Dads!
I love the fact your boys come down to the shop to work on their trucks. And Paul finds time to give them pointers to fix the problem. The boys will carry that knowledge for the rest of their lives.
he needs to bang out those fenders it looks horrible 🤣🤣
It just amazes me that Paul knows how to tear down and rebuild a transmission. Your average auto mechanic won't touch transmissions, it's just too complex, so they send it out to a transmission shop. I bet Paul is even self-taught, which just makes this even more amazing.
A TURBO 350 / 400 IS ONE OF THE EASIEST TRANSMISSIONS TO REBUILD ...
@@tammylott921 why are you all cap shouting?
I can do it with a motorcycle carb. Paul does it with Carbs, Chassis, Transmission, Engine, roll bars, and Body
PAUL DOES IT ALL...Fello Fab Rat lovers...
Can anyone help with a dollar or anything to Texasfoldem on cashapp? I have sold all I have and I am still hundreds short to be able to get a dentist to simply extract several broken teeth. I have been in pain severely at times for almost three weeks because of the time it took to get everything sold. I am handicapped and do not get any assistance... I paid taxes for so many years at these crazy rates and I cannot believe I am looking for help from anyone I can. I would take photos to show anyone willing to help so you know I am not a scammer. Or live video to prove I am not lying. This is so bad.
I am so desperate and have even tried pulling one tooth and could not get it...
It's also a pretty color 😐
This was one of my favorite channels before. But having Ben is making it even better. Can't wait to see everything you guys build together!
Agreed ! Ben is clearly a huge asset to the shop and I just love his attitude. Makes me smile every time
I agree with both comments here. Ben was a great addition. Too
bad he's moms favorite. Sorry Paul. 😞
I had to rewind for a moment... I thought I heard Marty Stouffer narrating Wild America. Yep.
Every workshop needs the one guy who will actually read the instructions first 🤣
I love the vague directions for doing the brakes. Just enough so he has to figure things out on his own and learn it for real.
yeah, but unless he's already done it, I'd have first had him learn the "joys" of packing wheel bearings with his hands and a palm full of grease. Sometimes, that is all you will have. What to do, what to look for so you know you've done enough ... knowing to make sure your bladder is fully drained before you start ... 😬
@@randyc4959 Yeah he cheated. I was taught the grease in the palm method. Then i learned the automatic way. since i dont get in a hurry I still revert back to the palm.
I've packed bearings with grease in palm but the best thing is his son is learning a skill. We are short these days on young men that actually know how to do things. We wonder how all that will turn out in the world.

Truck is coming along nicely! I have about 20 years on you Paul, and I still tell the stories of me and my Dad and our "adventures in hot rodding". I lost him when I was 24, 6 months before his first grandson was born, so the stories are how my sons got to know their grandfather, as they learned how to use the tools he made his living with.
Never stop telling the stories, they will keep his memory a living part of your family.
I miss those days when my sons were in their teens. Some of the best years of MY life. Heck I even miss them not putting the tools away, LOL. Cherish these summers, Paul...they grow up too dang soon...
Arch, well said sir. I learned so much from my dad at a young age just from holding a flashlight. The good times together are forever remembered. 👍
A suggestion. Put a couple of drawer sliders under the hole and mount a catch tray/basket.
I was thinking a hinged catch cage of some sort. But anything to stop the parts from flying about would probably work. A milk crate on wires... 🤷♂️
@@lloydfancett3039 I was thinking a cardboard box with a rag in it :)
If I'm not mistaken that is the same table he does disassemble on so it would need to be able to hold fluid.
Couple things surprised me drilling in a metal table with a transmission ready to assemble all around the hole. Waiting use the tranny mount after it's disassembled and putting it on for cleaning😂.
Does the transfer cases get green paint?
I was thinking a Grease tray out of a ole grill
@@offroad6309 It's one of two--he'll need to remember to do fluid work on the other one. Or put a plug in that hole. Second the motion for a catch tray, makes it easier to retrieve items.
The content is getting better and better. I love his brother being there and Randall. Keep up the great work guys!!!!
I absolutely agree! The family and neighbor dynamic is just a joy to watch.
I think Randall is his brother..
@@livewithnick Randall is his cousin Ben is his brother
G'ma Lolly advertising for a Casket company!! I love the sense of humor with this family, helping the boys along with ice cream and cokes! Sugar power to the rescue!
My mother in law sews the liners into those caskets.
@@bradgibson516 there is a joke there somewhere.
@Harold Phipps, no joke.
The new lighting greatly improved your videos, but more importantly… how do you guys know this stuff? The transmission looks complicated, sort of like magic. I’m sure, Grandpa Sherm, up there floating on the breeze, is smiling on his boys.
Man, that transmission work is like assembling a fricking clock! Must take a lot of training and experience to get right!
I'm amazed by the person/s who designed the transmissions and figured out how to make the parts. I've always been able to take things apart and put them back together but not in creating the parts from scratch, so much.
All parts together can be overwhelming but you do it as sub assemblies. It's not bad after you've done a few.
Thats a FACT ....I grew up on a farm & been workin on farm trucks , cars & stuff etc since I was old enough to hold a wrench [roughly 45 years] and me an my pops only tackled [or tried to] a transmisson ONCE an it was a DISASTER ....LOL... it sort of just ate itself up on the maiden voyage !
Ever since that debacle we've always just taken 'em out to someone who actually knows WTF their doin !
and it's got to be near surgical clean, a bit of grit or metal shaving in the wrong place will cause it to fail in operation.
I enjoy the channel Percison Transmission. He is the South Main Auto of Transmissions. "Theirs your problem lady ". Check out Neutral Drop as well.
Watching Paul teach his boy to do breaks is priceless. My first break job was done with my Uncle coaching me over the phone on an old 82 Chevette.
The amount of knowledge you have is impressive! Auto trans have always intimidated me.
Automatics are easy: just take them to the scrap yard and put in a good manual.
Too bad Paul can't count to ten: a good Eaton Fuller would rock in that rig.
@@kd5nrh wow. Talk about not being able to count to ten. I’m sure while Paul is at 45 degrees on a obstacle pulling a disabled truck out of a canyon he’s going to be super keen on having to continuously shift between 1st and 2nd gears. Oh ya. Definitely. Torque converter and the correct stall is key to performing in this case and on a drag strip.
I hear ya. It was intimidating to me too until I went for it (because I didn’t want to pay for labor). After you succeed at it, you fully feel like you can fix anything.
@@dsauce8780 Well said.👍
Let’s talk about abilities: Paul’s overall mechanical and fab skills never cease to amaze , it’s not often that ( even a seasoned mechanic) can freshen up a turbo 400 !!! Michelle’s editing skills have become cinematic worthy !!! Great content as always guys 👍🏼👍🏼
@Fab Rats we need more old derby videos! Love the longer videos too!
Look up
Ez duz it racing here on UA-cam. That’s the derby channel
I just learned a whole lot about installing engines with this video - getting everything centered, and then leveled was new information for me. Then checking the clearance on the headers was wise, so you wouldn't have to pull the engine to replace a header gasket. I wish design engineers and auto manufacturers would think that far ahead when designing their vehicles. Paul, your shop is such a great family-run operation with Ben helping you, kids popping in and out working on their vehicles, Grandma stopping by to bring lunch, Michelle stopping by to visit. I hope you realize how lucky you are that you were able to create this wonderful world for you and your family.
Hey Paul, Hilti makes a cordless drill that has active torque control. It stops the tool from spinning when the bit gets stuck. Thought you or Ben may want to stop breaking your arm.
Man, I wish I`d `a growed up around you fellers, I might `a knowed somethin` before I got this ancient...you guys are doin` the good stuff!
Thanks, Paul, Ben and Randle (I`m not sure yet if it`s Randall or Randle...) Positive demeanor, fun encouraging atmosphere, pretty healthy mix of good and bad habits...you might be on to something with this whole youtube fad!
Amen Brother
Michelle , I think you need to do a “Name this part “ in Your studio for Paul , lol. That could be funny too!!! We love your channel and all you 2 beautiful people do, keep loving life !!!! Hugggggggs
Paul, the amount of Knowledge that you, Ben, and Randall possess in one shop is extraordinary! The fact that you stop your work to help your kids learn about their trucks is so awesome too. Thanks for an awesome video!
Entire vehicle collection update video would be awesome especially for all the new folks as well.
I agree 👍
A couple weeks...I had such a wonderful memory just then. I was pulling the clutch out of my F-100 that had been having some issues. Dad saw the condition and asked me, "How long have you been having problems with that clutch?" I answered, "eh, a couple weeks." His response was, word for word, the same as Paul's. He then informed me that he smelled clutch several weeks back and knew we were going to be under my pickup...well, he knew I was going to be under my truck. He never let it get too dangerous, but he was waiting for me to bring it up. The best education comes in the garage with dad! Thanks for the reminder. I miss that old cuss. By the way, I farted lifting the trans into place. He started me laughing with that thing setting on my chest. I was stuck under that hunk of metal for a good 5 minutes before I had the strength to lift it into place. Laughing might be good medicine, but it's not good for bench pressing a transmission into place.
That transmission will never last Paul. The one fatal mistake you could make with that, you made. You painted it John Deere Green. It's bound to die an early, noisy, painful death at the most inconvenient time!
Hey I see the Nugget sitting over there. Is it ready to drive yet? You guys are the best for doing all that you do for Ed and others. Some good karma coming your way. That wrecker is going to be awesome.
Hey Paul I just want to say thanks for your videos, my dad passed away yesterday morning and watching you guys work and play is making me laugh in this hard time so thank you for everything you do.
I love these two brothers working and laughing together. It make my heart and soul happy. Paul and Ben y’all are
so blessed. 👍👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can’t say enough how great you guys are!! I love the relationship Paul and Ben have it’s good to see brothers working together. My FAVORITE part of this episode was when their mom came and brought treats for her favorite son!!! She’s one in a million. Plus the shots of Papa Sherm driving the truck😀 thanks guys for making me smile again!!
The amount of engineering that goes into an automatic transmission is ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING!
I'm stunned that someone sat there and figured it all out.
UNBELIEVABLE!
I love that Ben is around the shop helping Paul. Its nice to see the brotherly bond and laughter between those two. Keep doing what you all do, it's much appreciated.
Hat's off to Paul and Ben for getting the engine and transmission in the Rat rod tow truck! We saw the Nugget patiently waiting for it's turn. Paul's knowledge of transmissions is unreal and I like that Ben is the quality control officer! 😊
Alot of information packed into this episode. Loved it
I really like the improvements to the tow truck that is going to be bad ass. Seeing your son learn by doing things on his own is a great way to learn that is for sure. Keep up the great work everyone
What I’ve been waiting for: the best video for someone trying to find the courage to mess with a transmission!
Thank you for the just-in-time making of this video!!
If you enjoy the chaos of transmissions check out precision transmission here on UA-cam.
@@DaleEarnhardtsSeatbelt thanks! I did!!! The instructions there are fine, what I got from Paul was the needed coolness (spelled: courage)!
@@cunever courage needed. They don't call them automagics for nothin ;)
Love it when you show your kids working on their vehicles and I'm sure Paul has never lost a brake pad haha...
Oven cleaner always wins for me, and you can buy it at the dollar store!
You mean the $1.25 store... LOL.
It's so nice seeing grandma lolly coming around so much more it's good to see she's keeping busy and handling things well enough to be around the shop!
The Shermanator is looking good! Can't wait for the final turn of the key
i like that name.
I agree!
shermanator is already taken by Deboss garage on YT for his squarebody truck sitting on a old tank frame (not a actual tank but a tank frame made for agriculture work)
Hi I've been watching your program for a long time changed like you because play the greedy merchandise I'm looking for some shirts and also possibly if you have anything for a baby my son just had a baby with his girlfriend so I like to get them started out right and Airport program is really cool and I enjoy watching everything reminds me when I worked on my song I'm derby cars and endurance cars he doesn't do it as much anymore Unity so busy now once in a while he'll stop over and see his old man
@@davidvogler9018 what in gods name are you trying to say
This has been; "The Best Memories" with Paul. May the memories always be Good Ones. R.I.P Grampa Sherm, R.I.P.
You might think about adding a couple of stiffeners on the bottom of the table to minimize the bounce when you're seating those seals.
We need to see more of Michelle ......even her face when Paul said there is hope for me yet was priceless....!
Love the video, love the memories of your father and family time with grandma, Michelle just everybody, thank you for sharing
I think it’s so neat to see how your children are using some of the same phrases that you use. I truly appreciate and enjoy your content. Keep up the great job, and may God bless all your endeavors.
Paul is not only entertaining to watch but he is also a very good teacher. Love these videos!
Coming along great I think it will win the competition for sure, heck it was already a hell of a machine for your dad and you guys putting together what you had :) ❤️ that's how we always made it as well ❤️
I am enjoying your channel a lot. I am wondering where Ed's Golden Nugget is. He's not getting any younger. I hope he's going to be around to see the reveal and have enough days left to enjoy it. Keep up all the great joy that you all bring to people that needs to see someone enjoying their life through hard work. Stay blessed.
Most video channels are on a delay of shooting and editing. Most likely it's being worked on video hasn't reached us yet. Toss in standard parts availability issues now add in the fact the zuk is old and rare he could be pretty hung up on parts needed to make content worth shooting, editing and uploading.
I also am following the nuggy.
Wasn't it in the background?
When he had it before Robby they did nugget uploads on Sunday.
Agrreed. Im here to see the Golden Nugget get worked on. Its just sitting there getting grinding dust flung on it.
It’s heartbreaking to see it sitting there knowing Ed is missing it. My understanding from a previous video was that Ed is headed out to his goldmine and was probably hoping to have it back. Ed wasnt born yesterday. He knows what Paul and Robbie are capable of. The time and money being spent on it is for views. Ed doesn’t need or want a show piece. I’m praying he’s allowed to put it to use and it doesn’t get stuck in an endless round of car shows and promotional events.
One of the best parts of the "Fab Rats" family channel is letting their boys just dig into problems/projects and figure them out. Luckily, I was one of the last graduating years to have autos/woods/metals classes in 2012 highschool. This is disappearing in highschools all over the country.
Golden Nugget Please...
You working with the kids and they look at you for guidance and help but first you let them try.. I have a little guy who is 7 I can't wait until he's a little bigger.. We have so much fun and work to do.. And I have another baby on the way.. Being a dad is the world.. And you inspire many families to work together be happy and go out and enjoy the hard work just for more smiles and work coming. Thanks.. Really thank you for the smile I needed this morning.
The look on Michellel's face when Paul said there is hope for him, was awesome, made me LOL. (Johnny Depp)
Great parents teach the kids they will be set for life. Love your channel
I would like to compliment you. It gives me a case of the feel goods to watch You and your brother and cousin work together. During your videos family including your Mother come in and out. Seeing your kids working in the background on their own projects finishes off the picture for me. You have it going on sir. Congrats I really enjoy your video's for that very reason. Well its entertaining as all get out also.
Great video and the new lights in the shop are much better. Your Mom's smile lights up the whole world! God bless you all!
Great content as always 👍. I've been watching since this channel was at around 50k subs. So cool to see Fab Rats grow enough for Paul to not only quit his day job, but enough to bring his cuz and brother on as well. Keep killing it guys!
When your dad was hopping that truck up those rocks he was smiling big time. Priceless.
It really looks like Paul,Ben and Randal enjoy the time together working in the garage. The playful relationship is what everyone wants to have when they work. Always enjoy your videos thank you for sharing.
Any man that can rebuild a transmission and it works, is a true mechanic!
what about the nugget?
My thoughts exactly.
Not only are you an excellent fabricator, but knows how to build transmissions. I'm very impressed!
What about the Golden Nugget? Waiting on parts?? I'm worried Ed may never see the Nugget or the Recon.
That frame dent you made was amazing.
I found a 4x4 or 4x6 piece of lumber with a hole in it better than drilling my counter top. It gives the piece support and I can have multiple sized holes in the same piece for better support.
Paul, Put a deep drawer where that hole you made. This way nothing goes flying through the shop. It's idea 💡... great way to teach your son. Hands on best way. 👌 y'all have one awesome Grandma.
Love the channel I am trying to get my buddy convinced to drive to come meet you guys in real life this summer
Jordan Holmes I totally agree with you. I'm super impressed with Paul's parenting methods, he gives his kids direction and what some would call too much free reign but it allows for success and failure both promote character growth. Being a mechanic on a golf course I'm responsible for maintaining over a million dollars worth of equipment. I am troubled in my heart to see the young kids who come to work in the summer being utterly lost around machinery and even hand tools. They don't even know how to use shovels and rakes. Whatching Fab Rats is encouraging; Men, real Men, problem solving, being resourceful, building things out of nothing, having fun ribbing one another yet still showing genuine love. The editing and little sub text bits like"storytime with Paul",visits from grandma, Michelle trying to guess what parts are, the list is endless. It sounds a little bit corny but it really gives me hope that there are a lot more families like this with this dynamic. The synergy of this core group is what makes this channel so darn good. I get bummed out when each episode is over! This is great content!
Oven cleaner always works better. Also Grease lightning works real good with aluminum.
The dollar store oven cleaner works great.
Nice to hear you talking about your dad. Lost mine 10 years ago and still miss him ever day.
Awesome fellas that thing is going to be a beast. Love seeing the boys working on their own trucks also..
Thanks for taking time to guide your children, the dividends will be greatly appreciated for many years to come.
eowawki------Considering how much Paul, and his brother , Ben , seem to know , and how calmly they seem to work , you can bet that they got some good parenting themselves . What
goes around , comes around .
Great video! I felt like I was in the shop working and sharing stories with you all. :)
Your son said the same thing my lovely wife said to me it only been making noise a couple weeks , no pads left. You gotta love them!!!!
i absolutely love watching these two brothers work together. wish mine was still around to work with..
It’s good to see all family is all working together for one goal , keep up the good work !
These guys are pretty amaizing, tackling a rebuild of an automatic tranny, I've always been afraid to tear into one, it only takes ONE little mistake for all of that work done for not, Great Job Boys!!
Ben was 100% a good addition to the team!!
Damn PAUL!!!!!! That trans work was awesome. I've never built one or come close to it but what you did, I would imagine it's like heart surgery. Great job to all!!!!!!!
it would be like heart surgery if he did it in gear at 60 mph
Weld a couple pieces of angle iron to the bottom of the table you cut a hole into. Use the angle iron to hold a plastic bin. Then the parts won't hit the floor. And you can just slide the bin in and out when ever you want. Can then also be used as a drain hole and the bin can be the catch can.
Great lighting, they did well.
Always good to have Melissa in a video for a minute or two for a little eye candy makes her feel importantIt’s good to see the boys learn how to work on their own vehicles
Awesome video as always. I liked the simple but informative info on how the trans clutches work. I learn much better by visual then reading about it. Happy Friday!!!
Dude love the story about dad my dad is the same but he is mad when I do what he did or still does thank you Lord he is still guiding me
Great job guys, good to see the pretty face in the shop. Have a good one.
Great that you take the time to help your son with his brakes Paul, good father.

I don't have a family so I live vicariously through y'all. Thank you for sharing. Y'all are the best.
Watching the transmission rebuild reminds me why I prefer a manual transmission. And seeing the truck being completely rebuilt reminds me of the story of my grandpa's axe: the head's been replaced once, and the handle a bunch of times, but it's my grandpa's axe!
Those stories with Paul are getting better every time I hear one!
I was so happy to see Michelle in this episode I was getting worried but we love her so much
Can not wait to see the tow off, but think you and Matt will have to invite Rory and the guys from Hauk machines and their 6x6 tow rig. Love the builds, keep it up.
I like the way Ben was watching Paul put the transmission back together. I actually think he was learning.
You have the best Grandma!! What a lady.
I had a buddy in auto mechanics school. he said the automatic transmission class was one of the hardest to pass. but had a amazing teacher. ask a bunch of questions. :-)
The lighting in the shop is 1000 times better. I bet Paul and the guys like it too.
Suggestion: Build a drain line that will drain the fluids from the top surface to a catch basin below. Make sure you have a wire mesh to keep parts from getting into the waste line. Please record the build.
Think he showed it before, it goes into a 5 gallon bucket.
Paul, did your big brother teach you everything you know? Be sure to kiss your mom/ grandmom, she deserves it. I hope you know how lucky you are to have her.
