About cigs, you only need to smoke when you are "Agitated", 2nd level of stress, one cig will remove all stress. 1st level of stress, "Anxious", doesn't actually do anything and can be ignored. Biggest problems with cigs(but I hear it will be fixed) is finding lighters and matches, not being able to light a cig without them. 1 molotovs can kill all zombies on the map, if you manage to gather them in 1 spot.

You really only use power for a freezer. 0.16 L/h x 2 (a ice freezer is 2 units) = 0.32L/h. x 24h =7.68L a day. 2803 units a year. In game they are called units. We just make it easy and call it liters. Even now in USA Kenuky they use gallons. 740 gallons of petrol in a year? Idk. And really it is a game and the generator etc just shows how wasteful we are in general with power usage in the real world. Since we are ok to think that the character is going to survive on that little amount of water AND just looking at a wall for a hole year. I mean yea. Real players and humans would have more then enough time to scavenge for parts and fuel needed to run a 0.32 unit per hour generator. Or just ditch power generation and find enough food in the world to survive without fuel. Like really. A hole year. Ow and it is a game. The generator fuel usage is not like the characters need for water units or calories. It is more like you need 50 cans a year or something like it. Unrealistic and stuff.

The problem with water is that it is impossible to estimate how much do you need to survive one year of PZ because it depends on playstyle. So, you need more water wnen you run, fights, craft, carry overweighted goods etc... and definitely less water when you do not prefer much activities. It also depends on that what clothes you wear
Just take the upper bound as the minimum. Realistically water will never run out because even if it doesnt rain ever again and water shuts off on day 1, Lakes and Wells are infinite and only require boiling which can be done with any source of fire (electric or not)

There is one way more to have drinkable water without cooking and raining - build barrel one floor above and connect it with sink - you will have safe water without cooking. Raining is also unnecessary, because you can fill barrel with unsafe water from lakes (but it will be magically changed into safe water from sink)

as far as firearms go, ammo consumption is determined by your aiming skill. once the skill is sufficiently high, you can actually consistently get one-shot kills.

The info box on generators is wrong; the consumption rate listed isn't in liters per hour but rather percent per hour. If it's listed at "0.5L/h" it will actually consume 12% of the generator's tank per day. Since a full gas can fills 80% of the generator, and you should get almost 7 days from each can, it would only take 55 cans to keep it on all year.
I mean your likely going to be doing something in most points of the game, if anything to collect the resources above, set up a base camp, fighting the hordes of the undead, etc.
Nice deep dive. I am highly active so I don't know how much that would effect hunger and depression. My last character had over 4000 kills so it is good to know the population.
Small Reminder that food, if your PZcustom run is using the NUTRITION aspect, that also means you need to balance Carbs, Fibers and Protein, or basically.... keep a minimally healthy diet instead of just downing several Pounds of Spiffo's industrialized burguers.
Nutrition doesn’t actually do much, it only really matters for weight. I ate nothing but gas station candy for weeks to get my weight up after spawning, 0 negative effects.
Regarding 228 planks only making a small cabin... Well, assuming the american standard plank is 2x4x192 inches, that'd make a box about 10 foot wide, 7 foot tall, and 30 foot long, including planking the floor. That's a pretty decent little home. Even cut down by around a third for waste and slanted roofs, that's still 200 sqft, which is, assuming each tile is 3 foot wide, about the half the square footage as what you build there.
MASSIVE oversight when you got to the weapons. Your durability loss is pretty heavily affected by your weapon skill and Maintenence (for melee) and Aiming (for guns). Durability loss is also a chance-based mechanic, so your calculation methodology would need to change. Also, pointing out from another comment that gas usage was miscalculated.
My strategy is to stay in town and watch the skill shows and gather supplies and get a car and when the utilities go off then i drive to the closest river and set up a camp fire and a tent and start gathering water from the river and cook it on the fire so that its safe to drink and catch some fish
an slight objection to the melee weapons part, it scales to your maintenance skill and the weapon skill which is very important cuz rather than disposing pipes every day like its napkins, you can somewhat use it kill the 3rd day if your not trying to recreate a madness combat animation by killing everything in sight. Also the gas is pretty limited unless you set it to unlimited if your playing sandbox, so I hope they add horses and mules one day.
31 days for one of those jugs is insanely slow, in the town I live in the water is not drinkable so we have to get those 5 gallon jugs and if you hydrate properly even without much movement, you will go through one of those in a week or a little over, let alone fighting hordes of zombies building and such. Not expecting realism just wanted to mention it.
water is impossible too predict. to varies based on temperature, your clothing choices, your activities etc. there are too many variables to accurately determine the answer. only way would be too be completely naked and do literally nothing for 24 hours, and even then, the temperature outside is still varied and will make answering how much water for 1 full year, still impossible, but relatively accurate, not including water needed for farming too feed yourself.
just calculate three values: 1: the most water you ever need to consume in a day ever. 2: the least water you ever need to consume in a day ever and 3: the average water you need to consume in a day. calculate this by spending a in-game week per "action" (aka wearing alot of clothes and fighting zombies, reading with not many clothes during winter, raining with normal clothing, etc).

You cant messure the amount of what you need a in full zomboid year. Yeah water and food you can somewhat messure. But when you start to cook and get higher level and make meals you can save a lot of food. but weapons are impossible to messure. Maintenence skill and weapon skill impact your durability a lot. If you are low level your weapons break faster and you need more hits to kill a zombie. If you are higher level in both you do more damage and your weapons last longer. Also when realisticly playing you are going to have days where you dont do much. Its also the same with a car, I have days where I drive my car a lot and then days or weeks where I dont touch it. The sigarettes is funny because I love to save up first aids pouches and place them and I store sigarettes in those. One playtrough I had 3 pouches full with sigarettes (I do play with organinesed so the container holds 5 spaces so thats 1000 sigarettes per pouch) I had well over 3000 sigarettes haha... I also thought you needed more. I always pick smoker but I usually just smoke even before I get the moodle to smoke. Idk maybe its because I smoke irl I also think to smoke ingame more often
As far as time spent playing goes, yes, but as for in game days, you still need the same amount. So crank up the day length if you feel like you need more time to gather the stuff. But at least for me, scavenging for every last store of canned goods gets tedious pretty fast, so I'd just level up fishing as that is a fresh source of food that doesn't just end during the winter but only becomes harder. If you only have access to crafted spears you need at least level 1 to have even a small chance of catching anything during dawn or dusk (4-7am, 6-9pm) or at least 7 if you want to fish during other hours of the day too in the winter. If you have a fishing rod and some bait (note that foraging for bait becomes impossible in the winter but fishing net traps should still gain you bait fish), the thresholds drop to 0 and 1, with fishing tackle its 1 and 5. (As far as the wiki is current and correct)

@@mikkelnpetersen Well yes, it all revolves around in game time. Set length of day to 24 real life hours and you can kill a thousand zombies with a drop of water and half a grain of rice. Set it to 1 second and you won't have time load the game before starving to death.
ngl the genny thing is kinda innacurate, for instance in my current playtrhough i have a decent survivor house with more than average fuel consumption, and a single can of gas lasts a week, so you’d only really need around 50-60 gas cans

Without mods, it's impractical to balance nutrition. It's better to ignore protein altogether and go fishing if you can.

My guess with water is that a unit is 8 fl oz, because you're supposed to drink 64 fl oz minimum per day, or 8 units.

Make better thumbnails brother, I'm learning it too
This one looks shit doesn’t it. Until now, every Pz vid of mine has a thumbnail that’s primarily not based on pz graphics. I have specifically never done this type before because I realized with the first one: he, thumbnails from this game look as. But I am very curious to see if (despite) the look do well. Maybe something recognizable is better than something attractive you know. Also what do you think of the just cause 3?
