      @@StefanBaumann With good reason. I'm a huge fan. Forgive my goofy user name (it's an old one based on a character from a favorite silent film). My actual name is John Nagridge. You're still on my bucket list to either take a workshop from and/or get some mentoring from you.

    Oil of clove is super strong smelling!!! How about linseed oil, stand oil, poppyseed oil or other oils that also dry? Baby oil, olive oil, and salad oils don't dry, good to know, thank you. Curious that oil of clove "dries". Windsor and Newton make drying oils, what is your experience with these? Linseed oil is the historical choice, but things change over time. Love your videos and the comment "We won't even be around in 250 years" hahaha, man thank God for that!! thanks Stefan!

    Ivory soap works too, but OMS is easier. Its less of a problem if you can afford an air filter rated for VOC's. I bought one and its totally worth it.

    I paint in car port. First wipe brush with blue towel then wet blu towel with turpentine . Finally a mix of turpentine and either safforial or linseed oil. About 4:1.

    Great advice. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the glue/sizing off of (or out of) new brushes without wrecking the brush? TY

    I used to have walnut oil that I didn't want to use cos they dry too slow, I really don't have space to hang dry any more paintings. So I wiped the paint off my brushes as much as I could and I dipped them in the walnut oil and just leave them there.

    You can clean brushes by soaking in safflower oil only, then use soap and water. This method will keep the delicate brush oils from being stripped off the brush fibers, which can dry out your brushes causing the bristles to break and stiffen.

    • @danielorourkeartist
      @danielorourkeartist Рік тому

      Hi there- can I ask what your process is for cleaning with safflower oil? I've heard it elsewhere and makes the most sense to me, and it sounds quick and easy😊

    • @00vTv00
      @00vTv00 Рік тому

      @@danielorourkeartist Howdy, Yes, Safflower oil never dries, like olive oil, etc., so it can't hurt your brush. A cup out in the field will work just like turpentine,, but instead using the oil to leech out the pigment, at the end of the day just wash in tepid soap and water to clean further.

    • @danielorourkeartist
      @danielorourkeartist Рік тому

      @@00vTv00 lovely thank you! I'll be giving that a try. What soap do you use?

    • @00vTv00
      @00vTv00 Рік тому

      @@danielorourkeartist Hi Daniel, I use a regular natural bar soap, like ivory or dove, plain no scent. The real advantage here is your brush fibers will not get all brittle and break off over time, turps, thinners will strip oils right out of the brush hairs. I have heard of some using shampoo and conditioner. I know you understand the principle here, give it try, protect your quiver of brushes, lol. ;-)
