  • In this video I react to an old classic from Queen’s extensive catalog “Killer Queen”, arguably their breakout song that helped them rise to fame, written by frontman of the rock band Freddie Mercury.

Still one of my favorite Queen songs, so sophisticated and so very Freddie. Every bit of this song is perfection, thank you.

Killer Queen was one song which was really out of the format that I usually write in, said Freddie in a 1974 interview. „Usually the music comes first, but the words came to me, and the sophisticated style that I wanted to put across in the song came first. No, I’d never really met a woman like that. A lot of my songs are fantasy.” I wrote it in one night. „I scribbled down the words in the dark one Saturday night and the next morning I got them all together and I worked all day Sunday and that was it.”
    Freddie was harmonizing with himself!

A very sexy Freddie in that fur coat!! Whoop!! Queen actually performed a few songs on Top Of The Pops, a British TV show with a great platform for musical artists! Check out Queen’s LAS PALABRAS DE AMORE written by Brian in honor of their South American fans. Then TEO TORRIATE for Queen’s Japanese fans, also written by Brian!

This is the song that introduced me to Queen. 1974, summer days spent at the community pool. This song playing over the loud speaker. Nothing else like it on the radio. Love at first listen❣

Their breakout song was Seven Seas of Rhye, the first to make the UK singles chart top 10.

Early Queen is one of my favorites. For some other early Queen might want to try Liar or White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1974.

I like Freddie singing Millionaire Waltz, also when he teamed up with the best soprano in the land - Barcelona, etc.

This was the first Queen song I heard; it was the first one that charted in the US and the station in my town only played Billboard 100. It was eloquent, interesting and uniquely different but mainstream at the same time. I was 16, driving around in my brand new Ventura (thanks, dad), with the must-have 8-track deck mounted under the glove compartment, blasting this along with other (now classic) rock songs. Driving around was a great pastime when gas was .40 cents a gallon, lol.

This video is actually taken from the BBC programme "Top Of The Pops", in 1974, held in the studio with a small audience dancing around, and is one of the few times you'll see Queen lip synching since none of the songs were performed "live". Freddie actually hated doing it but those were the rules. If you look closely at Brian's guitar it isn't plugged in, which is the giveaway.

The BoRhap movie does a good job with this scene from Top of the Pops. They had fits over ot showing Freddie's tight pants on tv. He deliberately belted the fur jacket to look that way. It's a fun part of the movie.

Hey Trevor... now THIS one they were lip-syncing... Top of the Pops back then insisted on it... they didn't want any live "surprises" on their programming... and the band HATED it... almost refused to do it... lucky for us they eventually recorded it for history... another great song is "Liar", a showcase of the various musical talents of the band and, of course, entertaining... blessings.
