Thank you Emily, it's been a long time since I've had a good cry.... This has always been a favorite and very beautiful song of simple love we some times so easily overlook.. I remember when I first heard this from Billy Joel back in the late 70s,, it pulled at my heartstrings Then as a young man and falling in love with my wife. I'm old now, no longer have a wife, so it felt good to cry listening to you as you took me back in time to a sweet moment. Your smile at the end was gentle and true. Honestly, I have been hesitant to listen to this one. I should have known better with a girl like you. The way you slowed down the tempo and made it your own was so refreshing! Yes, Billy Joel has written MANY wonderful songs, I agree! and you do it very well, too! I agree with Brad that a number of his songs are a good match for you.
As I was listening to you do it, I did note that there were a number of differences from the original, but then I remembered back when I was close to your age I would always find my own interpretation. Then when I would hear the original and it was very different, I would just nod and smile, thinking, "Yep, that's another way to do it". Kudos to you for finding your own way of doing it.

I don't know why, but this made me cry.
I think it's a little bit of her piano playing, the words of the song, and when she sings it sounds like she is right there near you singing the song to you. She is not trying to show off her power, or hit notes that are hard to hit, she just sings the song the way it was intended.

I remember this music played by trombone while flying to Canada in 1981..i had no idea it was a song!
Later on i did play it on trombone and my brother in law( who was a proffesional trombonist in the Amsterdam Philharmonic) did play the piano. Great relaxing music!!!
