TORNADO 🌪️ WARNING ⚠️ FOR BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT TO FIND THE CAR 🚘 FOR BUTLER COUNTY COURTHOUSE AND BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE ON FRIDAY MORNING AT SCHOOL 🏫 FOR A BUT THE OTHER IS A
I agree. I get the pleasure of hearing it once a week due to my school being a Columbus, and it is really cool! It’s kind of interesting too, and a little bit creepy.
Hi. I remember this warning. This is the warning that prompted me to start looking into sirens. Thank goodness I acted on my curiosity because they’re very interesting. Thank you for this awesome recording of the warning. I remember I was at my school at the time. we had to retreat to the basement and I let everyone who was in the nearby rooms to go with me. The basement was gross, but even so I still remember this warning fondly.
I was waiting in the pickup line at my kids school trying to beat the storm. The sirens went off literally 5 minutes before dismissal so they held all the kids, even though parents were outside waiting and no part of Westerville SD was in the warning. We would have been next which is why I wanted to get ahead. Me and another dad went went in the school to raise a stink to at least get our kids released.
The best thing to do in a tornado or if a tornado is tracking towards a given area is to stay put and seek shelter where you are- attempting to flee or move from the area in any way can be dangerous. It also sounds like that school did that for liability- the reasoning behind most decisions like that nowadays
@@gulliverarchives9529 supposedly the Franklin County EM&HS office signs off on each school districts severe weather procedures, but I viewed for Westerville and they cite the sounding of outdoor warning sirens as their means of notification of severe weather. Not weather radios, not phone alerts and no communication between local agencies, just the sirens which is horrendous policy. Seeing as how most agencies push so hard for weather radios for indoor notification, I find it hard to believe that they even reviewed their plans and just signed off on it. That's where the liability would be. That and the safety of the parents waiting, uninformed of the district's decision to hold students waiting in the parking lot. My brother in law lives in Moore, OK and their school districts policy is to hold students who ride the bus (at nearest school if it route), those who walk, and those who drive. They will always release to parents as an excused absence if there is a threat for severe storms and tornadoes all the way up to the point that a tornado is bearing down on the school. That was their policy prior to being hit in 2013 and it was refined to allow for excused absences following the tornado in 2013. That was in direct consultation with the NWS being in close proximity to their office. That's the policy to mirror as it empowers parents to make the decision for themselves where they feel their children are safest.
Actually, regarding sheltering or moving out of the way, there are a couple of good episodes of the Weatherbrains podcast hosted by James Spann where he has Mike Morgan and Gary England on (separate episodes because apparently Mike and Gary don't get along lol) and they discuss the 2013 tornadoes around OKC. Both Mike and Gary made interesting points about "take your tornado precautions," and what that means. Mike was more explicit and said some people, in the case of a tornado strong enough to clear a foundation, you're better off leaving and getting out of the way unless you have a dedicated on site shelter. Gary didn't seem to make the case for leaving, but said he specifically uses the "take your tornado precautions," leaving it up to the general public to determine what is best for their families. Obviously sheltered is best, but if you have time to get to a more substantial shelter or leaving the area, that may not be a terrible idea unless you get a bunch of people doing that which caused tremendous traffic jams on the south and west sides of OKC which leaves more people exposed and in danger than if they stayed home. It's a tricky subject and I don't think there's one best answer which is why I'm not a fan of any policy that is so specific.
@@gulliverarchives9529 That's perfectly reasonable. However they should also permit the parents to shelter in the school as well. Plus, that would help said students remain calm if their parents are with them in what must be a scary situation.
I was at the blind school at my therapist office, and I’m like what the heck, that sounds horrendous. I think we should go to the basement. So there I go leading everyone on our side of the building to the basement. Yeah. Gets frustrating when you’re supposed to be out of your class in like five minutes and then you get held in for
Bringing me back to the tornado that came down in the houston TX area last month, I was in school when it touched down. Luckily, the tornado traveled away from my city. Unfortunately, it still ravaged the city of deer park, and parts of pasadena. Tornados are basically unheard of in Houston, so having one here was scary as fuck.
Was a bit sad. I have family there who barely got away from their house being destroyed. It hit the neighbors home, right across the road. Didn't sound right hearing the sirens going off in whoop.

You can get the tones from radio refrence and just input your area and look for "outdoor warning sirens" or smth else im guessing the scanner is a motorola but I would recomend the Baofeng UV-5R I have it myself and it works pretty well for getting the tones andd it fairly cheap, just dont transmit on the frequency. There are alot of videos out there showing how to program the radio although I use CHIRP its free and works pretty well, You just have to buy a programming cable and I would HIGHLY recommend a new antenna and extended battery the one that I use is the Signal Stuff Signal Stick.
Not saying I want it to happen, I really wished my county got more tornadoes. Like tornadoes that don’t even damage anything. Just so I can hear the high pitched sirens from outside. Or simply hear them more than 12 times a year .-. Not saying it’s a bad wish, I’m just really interested with tornadoes.
I completely understand that feeling! I wished for a tornado warning for my county for yeeaaaars. The satisfaction I got when I received this one, it was unbeatable.

This was a very interesting event to say the least! Also thank you for the credit :)
Nice ambiance.
I like the way those two sirens harmonize with each other.Very neat sound.
Never get over 1 tornado siren activation ambience in my area, 6 tornado siren activations is wild.
I love Whelens. Especially, when they do 465hz and 530hz tones

Wow, this was interesting. 6 years ago today, I had a tornado warning in my town.
In Oklahoma we had a tornado warning this Sunday, it was terrifying & I could barely hear the 2001 SRN tornado siren
It activated 6 times at my house too. I was like,"What the hell?"
