20 Years ago, only a week before my Mom passed away, I slept over in the hospital to stay together for a last time. A few years before we went to the show of The Lord of the Dance. Mom loved this song do much and that night in the hospital we watched the video. It was heartbreaking when Michael Flatley played this song. Mom broke. She told me to play this at her funeral, and so we did. Hearing this amazing and beautiful song, always brings back memories and deep, very deep emotions. I can listen to this a million times, just to have my Mom back for a while. Miss her so much.
Simply beautiful and he's absolutely right. Blessed are the believers and givers. It's when we truly give of ourselves that we begin to truly receive the essentials of life. Peace,....Mark
I remember being in Ireland March of 1999. Even though it was my dream to go there, it was during one of the msot difficult times in my life. I walked by a store in Galway that was playing this, and it brought tears to my eyes, because even though I was devasted inside, I felt that I wasn't walking alone. There is a light guided by God's spirit that he is carrying, and it comes out in the music and the shows that he puts on the stage.
The first time I heard this it made me cry, the second time I heard it I knew this was the song that would be played at my funeral, I love this piece of music and what a beautiful title it has "Whispering Wind", and that's just what it sounds like.
my dearest Michael if you read this you have broken and mended my heart and I also see my Mom she has been gone 13 yrs. and 14 Christmases but now she is here I love and thank you
I absolutely love this....I wish I had the sheet music....I have been learning it by ear. The flute is my passion and place that I can go to be calm and relaxed! He inspires me to keep playing!!
this song truly touches my heart...it makes me think of the last night that I had with my Aunt....I was with her when she passed away a year ago this febuary.....this is so sensitive and loving...its something you listen to, to relax and just be peacefull!! i love him too, which helps! but for him to dedicate this to his mum, and being able to find her in those few seconds he takes a breath!
This used to be me and my grandpa's thing listening to this EVERY time I came to visit. It still is and has been for 5 years. This video is just so creative and fun and brings out a love for dancing. When this part of the movie comes on everything goes silent and we get sucked into the video. Thank you Michael Flatley you rock!! Michael forever!! :)
this music reminds me the time that i was little id listen is so much it hurts to listen it after all this years so much is changed but in the same time i veel so much peace michael thank you for this beautiful song
i want to play it once...i am starting to learn it now, and i want to learn...it´s so beautiful, clear, calm...and also, i want to own some irish flute..i will play on it for a joy ...
There was a time when I was heavy into Michael Flatley. I think I OD'd and then for a long period after that I thought he was a real jerk. But he's very talented and this is a most beautiful flute solo. Touches my heart.
Kocham tą piosenkę... Pięknie grasz Michael! I love it! I love Lord of the dance i wszystkie jego odmiany...! Chciałabym Was zobaczyć na żywo... ehh ;( Szkoda, że nie wiedziałam, że jesteście w Polsce :(( Wróćcie tu jeszcze błagam!!
I bought a CD with Uleann Pipes Music last year in Dingle and this one was on. It sounded familiar from the start, till I recognised it as the song That Michael Flatley played. :-) On the Uileann Pipes CD it's called "The coolin"
You are looking for a tune called "The Coolin" or sometimes "Coulin". When he recorded it, Flately renamed this traditional tune for some odd reason (or he learned it as such from some other player). It is a pretty common air in the Irish tradition so you should be able to find plenty of examples. I would highly advise learning it by ear, though. You will never get the real soul and feeling from the sheet music.
@forglegorktheork if you listen carefully you can hear a wave in the sound when he does that, it's to obtain a certain affect, it actually changes the notes sound, I did it a lot when I was playing clarinet.
Pure Brilliance, If My Irish Whistle Went A Tad Bit Lower 'd Be Able To Play Along With It Fully, Brilliant Tune, Love It!, This & His Song "Red Dress" On His Website On The Positive Energy Section, :) x x x
Wow, I commented on another of his videos...Isn't this tune called, "The Coolin?" I've never known this as Whispering Wind. It's beautiful! I've loved this melody for many years! Now I'm confused as to the proper title.
One thing I can say about him is he is definitely a complex person. He admitted to having a macho side, but he also has a softer, sweeter side. I have definitely fallen in love with him again.
@charityalbumman let this song is heard all over the world, let every human being feel the same peace like you, let we all live in peace. i want live in peace so much but i see what is coming.im not afraid anymore, but sad, very very sad. peace with you my friend.
@radiantfear16 You can get vibrato like that? Whoa. I just recently learned diaphragmatic vibrato with my flute. I think he's doing a lot more diaphragm than anything. I've never played a wooden flute before, so I'm biased. Clarinet usually isn't an instrument to use vibrato. What kind of style do you play and use vibrato in? Jazz?
@OakAged72... At least he has eyes...:-) ..... Everybody concentrates differently....when performing, or doing a task........some close their eyes, some stare off into never-never land, some grin, some look at their shoes, etc.
@workkmeoutt Awe, you caught me. That's it of course. I'm jealous of his Ninja Eyes of Flaming Lasers. Because if I had Ninja Eyes of Flaming Lasers, there are a lot of cool things I would do. But not like rob a bank, because that's just wrong. But maybe burn a few bra straps. That would be OK because here in Canada our government has declared toplessness legal. And anyway I'd pretty much have to because, really, who's gonna date a guy with Ninja Eyes of Flaming Lasers?
@thepoint08 Doesn't explain the bizarre eye thing. Maybe his makeup artist had enough of his shiz quit, and he tried to do his own paint job and botched it. The world may never know.
Hey, he's not a half-bad flutist. Shame about the cheesy string section, but I guess that suits his persona. But WTF is up with his eyes? Is he trying to stare into an overly-bright spotligt, or did somebody mace him before he walked on stage?

The tune is an ancient Irish Air called An Chulainn.
Simply beautiful and he's absolutely right. Blessed are the believers and givers. It's when we truly give of ourselves that we begin to truly receive the essentials of life. Peace,....Mark

I am so addictive that I can almost play the full song with my recorder!

j'aime infiniment 3
In Irish music (and on the "Irish" wooden flute), vibrato is usually provided by the fingers, not the breath.
Cool,Amen!!!

Wow ...
@mangog1 yeah, this just touches some place deep down inside me too. That final comment is why, I think, it brings such strong emotions.

I want sheet music for this.
Does anyone know exactly what type of flute he's playing and where I can get one? Would love to learn.
I love Michael Flatley

Does anyone know where I might be able to get the sheet music for this? I've already tried the session

Why is he trilling his finger like that when he's sustaining a note? Is the video out of sync, or is he just doing it from habit?
