I wish there would me more innovations to make cycling more user friendly like more and better infrastructures in the city that are more and less cyclist friendly in some places. Riding your bike should be something so natural like walking and not dependent on expensive gadgets. Cyclepaths that are bioluminescent or use the bikes rolling on to generate renewable energy to feed the lamps at night or even better parking infrastructure for bikes are among the innovations that really help urban riding.
Litelock is junk. It should not have a Gold status. It can be defeated in 15 seconds with a crowbar. The belt part itself is good, the lock is weak. If they fixed that, then it would be decent.
The fly 12ce is £269.99 & the fly 6ce is £169.99. I would love to have a set. But they are just too expensive. At that price it's just never gonna happen
Yes GCN giving the urban commuter a bit of love. Can't be a bike channel without your pro videos and hardcore training videos, but plenty of us casual riders here too.
Got the Beeline couple of months ago. I use it frequently and I love it! The app also shows your route afterwards, how much time you have spent, your average speed etc... Genious!
Love my Beeline, would recommend to anyone. The standard function combined with a couple of waypoints makes going somewhere new easy to do without getting lost but still having the sense of exploration, and I'm not staring at the handlebars too often for directions.
I tried the pinion gears and I am absolutely amazed by it. Yes it is expensive and yes it is slightly heavier, BUT it is a pleasure to use, requires no maintenance, you have no oily chain to get dirty on and there is no rattling sound on bumpy pavement. I hope more frames will become available!
the Pinion is great!! But it is not only great for urban riding but also very well fitted for trekking - as on my Tour-bike. The 18 gear option IS expensive but worth every cent. Absolutely genius peace of engeneering. On the abus nuts: I had those, but only the one on the seatpost survived, simply because it becomes very annoying that you have to flip your bike every time you want to do some maintenance/cleaning and so on. They are not cheap and for the same price you get the pitlock set, which is - in my opinion - much better after comparing both systems.
Love the Cycliq. We ride all day and currently planning a tour. The team is currently testing handlebar bags and power block options so we can record our full day. The footage is great for b- roll.
That Schindelhauer is the very definition of sexiness. Grand design and two of my favourite gizmos: Pinion drive and Carbon belts. I hate the fact that aren't vendors for them here in Brazil and importing them from Germany is unbelievably expensive.
KP Cyclery has really caught my attention for producing a sidecar for bicycles. It is a flatbed with a frame that keeps your goods in place as well as allowing to tie things down if necessery. It has two connections to the bike frame and it does pivot so that I can get out of the saddle.
Also the Pinion is shit too and a pain in the ass trash product. Just get a fucking Nexus gear hub on the rear wheel like everyone else does. No idiot oil bath or changing or frame bulk.
Similar to those abus QR skewers, I had pinwheel skewers when at uni. They had a small key which was used to unlock them. The key was no bigger than a small keyring, but without it you'd need a lot of tools to get the wheels off!
Amazing gear. Love the lights with the camera, the only one I felt had a bit of concern is the electromagnetic frequencies in that helmet transferring into your brain? Great presentation Simon, Happy holidays to you all!
@@twisted_witch Ah, I had my money on the front/rear cameras. The belt is pretty old tech (and pretty great tech, I love mine) and Si really didn't have that much to say about the pinion, which is interesting since there's a lot to say about it.
I really don't buy the cameras as theft protection. Why? Because the lights themselves are likely to be stolen. I just got a Fly 6 and it comes with me when I am locked up outside, because if my $40 light set got stolen the one night I left it out, I sure am not going to leave a $120 rear light for a thief to unhook and take.
I’m really interested to see if someone can come up with a pinion or hub gear type solution for road bikes. Especially if it was light enough and efficient enough for pro level machines. I think we’re long overdue something revolutionary like that.
They won't be accepted because of their inherently smaller efficiency and weight penalty. There is an article on CyclingAbout page which compares a majority of internal hubs. I have been using the Shimano Nexus 8 internal gear for more than four years and now, after 22 000+ km (tarmac, gravel, mud, snow), I can only say that for non-professional applications all the aforementioned drawbacks are more than compensated by the comfort and a lack of any service-related issues). Sometimes I miss more gears and think about Alfine 11 (Di2 - why not?) or Rohloff 14. The Pinion hub is great but requires a special frame.
While that Shindlehauer is a great bike, I don't get the low profile slammed stem and bar for riding in a city. Urban riding in a more upright and visually aware position makes more sense.
David Britt I have it it’s brilliant! Great customer service too, I crashed and ripped one of the bags, asked for a new skin (an option you have with Tailfin, no need to buy a whole new bag) and got the complete second edition bag instead :)
dont be average Well I guess in some cases it could be somewhat better but derailleurs will always win the game. Plus I can't find anything wrong with them
鬼がかってます。 hi! If you order on beeline.co we’ll ship it to you in Japan for free! Please email support@beeline.co if you have any questions. Tom (co-founder)
When are companies like Garmin or Wahoo going to make cycling computers with cameras? Most people have lights so buying another set of lights for a camera doesn't make sense. I know Xplova have the X5, but other companies need to throw their hat into the ring
Nathan Boyle I think it’s probably got a bit to do with battery life. I doubt you’d get more than 2 or 3 hours out of something like that with modern (affordable) technology.
what , wait !? most people have ligths (front and back ) so they dont buy new 1's for the camera's so u say garmin or wahoo has to do it, since basicly no commuter has a cycling computer ..... uh most commuters i know have a cycling computer and those things are either more expensive or in the same price range then some new lights + the fact a cycling computer only will cover the front area of the bike and not the rear. so i dont realy see the logic in ur comment
Did I state that everyone wants a dashcam? No. I just think there should be more options. Garmin is one of the more regconised brands out there so why couldn't they put this technology into one of their units.
Sorry that’s bullshit I have been watching them for years and only recently noticed that message. Good luck to them doing info commercials and making money and I am glad they are disclosing it now.
Yes months not years. I have spoken to a number of watchers who were previously completely oblivious to how they make their money. As I said good luck to them. What annoys me more is their Uk bias and (along with other elements of the UK press)the protection racket they run for Team Sky.
The best urban cycling kit? Gatorskin hardshells for obvious reasons and hexlocks for securing my handlebars and stuff from thieves. London is the worst kind of urban!
Could these urban gadgets be the future of city cycling? Let us know in the comments 👇

Luis GO V to be fair those two things don’t actually exist in real life.

prynnieprynnie check out the previous version, available heaps cheaper and still pretty good functionality.
Yes GCN giving the urban commuter a bit of love. Can't be a bike channel without your pro videos and hardcore training videos, but plenty of us casual riders here too.
Thanks QuincelSC!
That bike camera is cool. I hate it when I'm cycling and a golden eagle serenely glides by and I'm like "Damn, wish I had filmed that"
As the cam points forwards, at least your crash were recorded while you're staring at the beast.
Got the Beeline couple of months ago. I use it frequently and I love it! The app also shows your route afterwards, how much time you have spent, your average speed etc... Genious!
I would consider mudguards to be revolutionary tech for many people. They don’t just protect you!
Love my Beeline, would recommend to anyone. The standard function combined with a couple of waypoints makes going somewhere new easy to do without getting lost but still having the sense of exploration, and I'm not staring at the handlebars too often for directions.

These are my favorite type of video . Thanks GCN !
Can you do a (retired) Pro bike on Si's orange town bike?
do a commuter bike check for the presenters!!
Ben Azoulay Si has SRAM X0 rear mech. Mat has Di2 hydro. Their commuter bikes are better than my race bike.
Love the Cycliq. We ride all day and currently planning a tour. The team is currently testing handlebar bags and power block options so we can record our full day. The footage is great for b- roll.
8:45 the bike, is the best Urban cycling innovation.
Commuter bike check please Si!
That Schindelhauer is the very definition of sexiness. Grand design and two of my favourite gizmos: Pinion drive and Carbon belts. I hate the fact that aren't vendors for them here in Brazil and importing them from Germany is unbelievably expensive.
Pinion gearbox are amazing!
KP Cyclery has really caught my attention for producing a sidecar for bicycles. It is a flatbed with a frame that keeps your goods in place as well as allowing to tie things down if necessery. It has two connections to the bike frame and it does pivot so that I can get out of the saddle.
The bike is the best urban commuter invention/innovation
Surely The Hövding "helmet" or airbag would be the greatest innovation in urban cycling in the last decade
Would love to see you review city commuter bikes
What kind of tires are on your commuter Si?
The Beeline is a cool piece of tech. The best by far.
01:55 say no to crack 😎
I like that Beeline - I hate trying to use my phone when riding.
Are you going to do more track/velodrome related videos any time soon?
Pinion gear box - the best ever!
Sweet tech! I like it all!
litelock should have never made it on to this video. It can easily be defeated even if it meant to be a "quick in and out of a store" lock.
Going by your name you can also be easily defeated, haha!
Also the Pinion is shit too and a pain in the ass trash product. Just get a fucking Nexus gear hub on the rear wheel like everyone else does. No idiot oil bath or changing or frame bulk.
Looks like typical Bristol/Bath weather to me: light jumper in the morning, down jacket in the afternoon.
Similar to those abus QR skewers, I had pinwheel skewers when at uni. They had a small key which was used to unlock them.
The key was no bigger than a small keyring, but without it you'd need a lot of tools to get the wheels off!
Just don't use a carbon frame: They will saw into the area around the skewers to get to your expensive wheels.
Belt drive and pinion/rear gear hub is tickling my fancy quite a lot.
Those lights with cameras are great.
Litelock got destroyed by the lockpickinglawyer tho
Video Recording option is nice.
Really interested in that drivetrain, anyone here used on and care to give any insight? For urban cycling it looks ideal, though Iooks expensive.
The problem is that you need a frame that can be opened too. The belt cant be splited.
Amazing gear. Love the lights with the camera, the only one I felt had a bit of concern is the electromagnetic frequencies in that helmet transferring into your brain? Great presentation Simon, Happy holidays to you all!
When do you choose to use the town bike? Surprised to see flat handlebars!
I've been offered a folding helmet, it's brillant!
Nice vid Simon, greetings from the south of France!
Nice tyres on last orange bike. What the brand and model of it?
Any new urban tech recently ? Excited
What about the Lumos Kickstarter helmet. Great piece of kit for winter commute.
Dear GCN,
Can you give us some reccomendations on the best Connect IQ apps for the garmin Cycling computers
Thanks
#torqueback
sick orange commuter bike! talk about it!
Now we just need some kind of wireless charging for all our cycling accessories.
6:03 pun intended? Getting round the problem of getting your wheel stolen
Nice commuter bike Si, what is it?
www.schindelhauerbikes.com/en/bikes/Ludwig-XIV-oxid-1.html
Do we know what the orange one is? The Schindelhour is nice but A) pricey, and B) huge lack of colour choice.
The Schindelhauer is a custom bike and can be ordered in every color you want ;-)
that helmet is so sick
Just wondering what is the funky orange bike - its cool! :-)
Hexlox is best anti-theft innovation
No, doberman. :)
What kind of bike was the orange one towards the end
When will bike lights stop flashing? It's illegal in a lot of places.
Great content!
What did you think of the PINION compared to CASSETTE GEARING that you're used to?
Does anyone else watch the paid promotion vids and play "guess who paid for the advert?"
Twis Ted looks like pinion or most likely the fly cameras at the end
soumil sharma yep, the geared belt drive thingy was my bet. (It might not have worked on me)
@@twisted_witch Ah, I had my money on the front/rear cameras. The belt is pretty old tech (and pretty great tech, I love mine) and Si really didn't have that much to say about the pinion, which is interesting since there's a lot to say about it.
I wouldn't be surprised if all of them did.
Awesome video

Once a racer always a racer 2:21 :)
4:23 wait won’t the crank hit that bump for the cables
0:00 that porsche tho!
But a panamera :/
Which Genesis frame is that please?
Christopher Richards It is the Genesis Fortitude it’s actually part of their mtb range
0:10 Vote for Pedro!

Przemyslaw Sliwinski I did mention weight and efficiency in my comment.
Litelok is light compared to what? Weighs double the u lock I replaced with it.
Not at Gold standard is doesn't thebestbikelock.com/best-u-lock/u-lock-comparison/
What bike is the orange one?
portable bike repair stand or portable wheel truing stand when will that occur?
beeline looks really convient
What if the boom box is somewhere away from the wind? Much safer than headphones... potential aero-gains?
While that Shindlehauer is a great bike, I don't get the low profile slammed stem and bar for riding in a city. Urban riding in a more upright and visually aware position makes more sense.
So why do you shoot commuting tips videos on race bikes and in full racing gear?
no fixed gear?
Nice video
What about the Tailfin???
David Britt I have it it’s brilliant! Great customer service too, I crashed and ripped one of the bags, asked for a new skin (an option you have with Tailfin, no need to buy a whole new bag) and got the complete second edition bag instead :)
3:33 but when the belt breaks, you need to buy a new belt and can't just repair it, right?
seasong carbon belts dont break the belt will stretch but the part can be replaced
Yes,like you have to buy a new chain if it breaks
Keep it up
Not interested in tops 7s or 10s if they include paid promotions.
Well, I dare to bet 90% of them do. GCN is just honest enough to be transparant about it...
The bike your riding is awesome! What’s the brand? Or is it custom?
It's because of paid advertisments, that we will never know your true opinion on pinion
fivos constantinou pinion is shit
dont be average Well I guess in some cases it could be somewhat better but derailleurs will always win the game. Plus I can't find anything wrong with them
Recorded and uploaded on the same day? Daylight at 8.30 pm? Something is wrong there.
I realy wanted BeeLine but I don't know how to get it in Japan
鬼がかってます。 hi! If you order on beeline.co we’ll ship it to you in Japan for free! Please email support@beeline.co if you have any questions. Tom (co-founder)
Very quick city change at 7 minutes...
Trystan143 who cares :L

Hate that upsidedown riser bar.
Could Nutfix be defeated by magnets?
Belt ring ?
Dont buy expensive lock. Thief would steal it -.- that's what happened to me
Not first
Includes paid promotion!
Bungle2010 well it never use to be there just saying!
Sorry that’s bullshit I have been watching them for years and only recently noticed that message. Good luck to them doing info commercials and making money and I am glad they are disclosing it now.

Warren Mc The state of American Road Cycling is so poor now they got nothing to be bias to.
The best urban cycling kit? Gatorskin hardshells for obvious reasons and hexlocks for securing my handlebars and stuff from thieves. London is the worst kind of urban!
Wrong! The belt drive in fact needs maintenance. Without cleaning and silicone spray the belt drive is quite noisy
You have to scrub down mud once in a while. Not everything falls off, and the residue wears down the (platic!) sprocket.
I HATE those handlebars. Jesus
Many of which.... have paid you
So many products, all of them pointless
All add too much weight and make riding worse.
That bike you're riding gives me hernia just by looking at it. It looks so uncomfortable.
A cheap bike
Urban cycling in an ulgiest and useless thing in the city
Welt Rogg what are you on about?
