Dear Glenn, I always enjoy your show. The reviews, comments and your insights/ recording experience. I’ve been playing the guitar for over 35 years. And although I’m not a ‘metal’ player (although I’m a big iron maiden fan) I still learn a lot! When I was younger till up to a few years ago I went by the whole ‘name recognition’ even if I never played or used that particular guitar/ amp. Yes, there’s certain sounds and styles I gravitate towards but that’s what I like. It may not be what you like so it’s ok to find your own voice. And the price tag or name recognition has nothing to do with that voice!” The only thing I’d like to see more of in your reviews of guitars is hearing the clean, undistorted sound of the guitar. I think it shows the true sound of the guitar even if some don’t think its ‘metal’ LOL! Thanks Glenn!
Mix tone VS Bedroom tone is a video I'd absolutely love to watch, since I have no idea where to begin. Would also be nice to know if there also has to be a difference between those and a "Stage" tone (the one you'd use in a live setting)
There absolutely is. Bedroom tone is not recording tone which in turn is not live tone. All three are very different from one another! Although recording tone and live tone are definitely closer to each other; bedroom tone is a total outlier and not to be trusted for any other purposes!
my opinion is that bedroom tone tends to be sounding scooped, less so on a recording. But you'd probably want more pronounced mids on live settings. On the gain settings, you might want more gain on bedroom and live tone but you definitely want less on a recording.
Oh man, a bullying video would be so helpful to so many Glenn. I mean, look at your audience. Having grown up with a facial birth defect and all the shit that went and still goes with it I know how much an encouraging word can help. I was so lucky I had big friends, supportive parents and a wicked sense of humor. Honestly, it never goes away even when I haven’t had a comment in months. Every time I go somewhere I expect it. It’s a big reason (that and facial pain) I have gotten into music. It’s my outlet. But a lot of kids and adults don’t have one. I can say this Glenn, with your following you’ll save a life if you do it. I guarantee it.
Glenn!!!!! I’ve been playing guitar seriously for like…. 6ish years and I’ve always struggled with lead playing, and I love the way you play guitar, loud, raw, and freaking awesome!!! I’m in into the same old school metal like you are, maiden is my favorite band and I want to bring that old thrash metal sound back and you really inspire me to do so, and you reminded me that metal isn’t supposed to be perfect….. and that’s the freaking point, metal should be the exact opposite of what’s on the radio and the top ten charts, and I can tell you definitely want a band like that in your studio again. Keep thrashing around!!! 🤘🤘 Oh yeah….. SCREW GIBSON!!
Thanks Glenn for addressing some of the comments - 6 negative to 150 positive, I like those odds 😎 Mono/stereo mode is for sitting between your studio monitors n riffing. If collapsed to mono (or watch a video about it on a phone) it will sound phase-y and horrible. Mono is phase perfect as is stereo mode, These two modes are for mixing, and proper double tracking. 👍 Which is what you did in your mix. Appreciate the video. I’ll miss the intros 😆 I loved em. Oh and please do release that video you mentioned because it was needed then, and it’s needed now 🤜🤛
First of Glenn you rock! Thank you soo much for being there for us musicians just trying to get things done and having fun doing it funny enough you always say youre a metal channel but your tipps are helpful for all kinds of genres. I for myself play grunge and shoegaze stuff and this kind of content is a real help for getting through the bullshit that is the music industry and its fans. There is a huge resurgence of these sounds right now so its a great time to get things done so i would really like to see a video where you talk about on stage tone, tone at home and tone in the studio! LOVE FROM GERMANY
21:00 I forget where I heard about it (somewhere on YT), but if you're playing heavy riffs tuning several cents lower will make low, chuggy chords better intonated. The initial pick attack bends the strings a tiny bit and as they resonate the pitch drops a little. When tuning with a tuner, use the initial attack as your guide rather than the string ringing out for several seconds. It does make a difference!
Your idea for a signature intro is awesome. Building familiarity is how a person's relationship with everything works; the hallmark of the nervous system-A functional byproduct of the survival directive. Just like music, building familiarity w repetition & development; just like marketing. Maybe a different tagline, personally I didn't mind "Alright everybody!". I set my volume level. Your dialogue is 20% yelling already. Great show! Cheers 🤘
I thought the long scream during the intro was great, then I hated it, but then I loved it again! Please do it from time to time just to piss people off.
Glenn, make the video about setting up your tone playing by yourself and in the Mix. I think that is really interesting. I know we all do it, put in too much bass in, sometimes scoop the mids etc because solo it sounds big.. Would be fun to see someone with good gear like you do that.
I was bullied in school, until my sophomore year in high school when I snapped and went to the throw a desk at someone. The desk was over my head but the teacher got in front of me.
I would love to see the how to dial in a tone for a mix vs. playing alone. I can dial a kickass tone for playing on my own but spend so long trying to get a sound that works in a mix.
Hi Glen. Can you do a video on mixing with pedals? Since there are so many more pedal than 500 series, it makes sense. Please do the video on creating tones for recording vs just playing. I’m not a guitarist but I would send it to my metal guitar friend.

I started with classical lessons as a teen. I'm 48. My favourite metal album is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. You always need some human in your mix. Love your channel mate, keep bringing the humanity
Hey man, I've just recently stumbled across your channel here and I'm really enjoying it. I used to do quite a bit of recording for my own band, Hellacaust and am starting yo do some again for a new project so the tips and guides have been super helpful in refreshing some knowledge. You really got to me with the comments about being bullied. I was bullied pretty badly throughout elementary and jr high school and I think you speaking up about your experiences is really awesome. I know at the time I felt trapped, worthless and alone. It's been many years since then but it still occupies a lot of space in my head. I think doing the video about the light at the end of the tunnel is a great idea. I bet it could really help some folks out who might be in the shit now. Thanks for all the content Cheers from NS
As a bullying victim myself for many years, metal, the gym, and learning how to fight (MMA) really changed my life for the better and helped shape me into who I am today. I’m still struggling on UA-cam and my content gets shit on quite regularly lol but that’s just how it goes for everyone until you get ahead one day and things turn around! Very sorry to hear about your bullying experience, Glenn. But the same concept clearly applies to you, here. You became a better man for it despite all the struggle. A video pertaining to that struggle would be epic! All the best and much love as always brother 🤘
1:30 I wanted to point out this subject too but I thought it was irrelevant. The ALRIGHT EVERYBODY intro really pumps me up for the day but its kinda akward if it is too long or if its not edited with some DBZ effects or something. I love your work thanks for the great content Glenn
I’m a new subscriber and I really find it very entertaining. I love the honesty and straight up information on new gear. Keep up the great work brother.
Been watching your vids since the beginning. I’ve learned everything I know from you and have been able to record music with a very low budget. You’ve really helped out the music community!
25:40 I've been riding my beautiful Honda Shadow "Sabre" 1100 for 21 years now & I wouldn't trade it for any other cruiser! It has taken me all over the US over the years. In fact, the last group ride that I took was with 4 other bikers - all on nice, newer Harley's - to Daytona Bike Week. Two of them had substantial bike issues on that trip (one that sidelined us for hours in the middle of nowhere), but not my 21yr old Honda! My buddies never picked on me for riding Honda again after that trip lol. My old '01 Honda is still running & looking beautiful to this day! So come on guys, get your head out of your collective assess & recognize quality, no matter where your bike, OR YOUR GUITAR, was made. And hey, you might end up paying substantially less for a much better ride.
I would honestly really like a video on guitar tones for recording vs tones when playing live/by yourself! I have always been a bedroom guitarist with limited live experience, but I am new to recording and would love to know more! Thanks Glenn!
Gleeeeeennnn!!! I blend three Amps when I am in the studio. A Fender Blues Deluxe Combo A Vox AC 15 Combo and an ENGL Gigmaster15 with a Palmer Cab loaded with a Greenback 12" . Thats a unique "vintage- ish" sound. Guitar brand? Of course it is a High end one. Early 90s Noname strat with Alnico V PUs and a BC Rich Warlock. Rather a Honda than walking barefoot.
Thank you Glenn. The annoying intros really... annoyed me :) You took the criticism like a real champ and it's cool to see you weren't butthurt or in denial. Way to go, I love the content of your channel!
Glenn, your guitar playing improvements are an inspiration! I've started trying to retrain my picking hand to the closed fist method. It has not been easy to retrain my hand, but I'm now making it a habit to practice scale running and that picking technique while watching your videos. It's been helping a lot and I can definitely tell that my accuracy is getting better. Once I get that down, I'll be attempting the scale method. Thank you!
I do notice this too in artists today. There are too many who are following set rules in making perfect music rather than breaking and bending the rules in recording settings, pretty much there’s less creativity. It’s the impurities that made the music back then sound good. Huge fan from Ireland. Love your work.👍
Brother Glen, I was just watching the Tubemeister Deluxe video you did 4 years ago and absolutely commend you on your own physical shape journey. You look so fucking healthy man. Which is great bc we need you around for a long time to come! Haha
I was going back through some of your old videos recently and the guitar tone videos and the idea of using 3 different cabinets, made from 3 different woods. After going through that video again it makes me want to build some cabinets in my boss's shop and see what kind of results I get. Keep up the awesome content!
100% would love to hear about how you overcame the bullying. I feel majority of metalheads all struggled through those important years, myself included. I know for a lot of people, heavy metal was the escape we needed. Love your work bro!
As a former smoker myself I'm happy you can take a deep breath enough to yell THAT long. Good job on that and proud of you for taking the initiative to work on your health.
At around 20:57 mark - I think this relates to a concept I heard about several years ago re: tuning. IIRC there are 2 kinds - equal temperament (based on mathematics and more like the tuning of a piano) and just intonation (which I believe is more common in folk instruments with drones). I actually think the latter is what barbershop quartets use and is what their very well blended 'full' sound is attributed to So yes, I think there might actually be a real basis for why this seems to work :)
You always have a great way explaining things. I've been working hard at making music worth listening to, and I'm getting pretty close to my goals. Now, I need to make some videos worth watching! Still trying different things and having fun. End of the day: I'm an old man just making some music and having fun. If 3 people listen to it, I'm thrilled. You're an inspiration, Glen! Keep up the great work, brother.
Hello! I discovered your channel this evening, watched a handful of videos, and subscribed. Your channel is funny and informative. This is a quick message to render my appreciation and respect. Thanks!
I know this is a studio channel but id love to see an episode on the differences between studio sound and live sound. I am a jack of all trades musician who plays 8 different instruments and at least as many genres of music. I also run live sound pretty well and would like to see more bands learn a thing or two about actually sounding good for the live audience... Who knows, it might actually help them sell an album Been watching for years and truly appreciate the hard work you put in. You have 100% earned your following here.
8:08 I myself tend to cut any guitar-only passages to a different track to let the guitar players' "insanely killer" tones (i.e. gain at 11, zero mids, out of control lows, etc) that they worked so hard to achieve and are so proud of shine, then when the rest of the band kicks in it switches over to a track dialed to the tone that the song actually needs, they rarely notice and everyone is happy.
Yes! We all want to see a video on the differences on guitar tones for a mix vs by yourself! Also, is the “mix” you’re talking about for a RECORDING mix or a LIVE situation mix. Is there even a difference?
The video idea for guitar tones recording vs jamming by yourself sounds great, also like the idea for the bullying video as I also went through a similar experience. Your channel has helped me get more into recording more and just started a part time recording course at college. Keep up the good work and the screaming/long intros just made me laugh lol
Your comment about changing the sound of your guitar when in a recording situation was right on. I have been in the studio with players who are really reluctant to change their amp or guitar settings because that's "their sound". It may be "their sound" but it isn't working in "our" mix or for the overall tone of the song. That's when you start getting the "turn me up" guys who don't understand that it's "their tone" that is burying the guitar in the mix. What sounds great to your ears when you are playing alone and "creating your sound" sounds like dog sh*t in a recording mix. These players have the same problem in a live situation blaming bad acoustics of the room for killing their sound. It's a given that the place you are playing in has horrible acoustics but it's the players job to use their amps EQ or pedals to make their instruments and amps adapt to the situation. Don't blame the room, the engineer, the microphone, the mix or your bass players fugly girlfriend. Be prepared to make changes to "your sound" on the spot.
GLEEEEEEEN!!!! With all the constant talk about CELV30's and the points you've made that EVERYONE has to have them these days i have looked at other options. I was on the market for an ENGL cab and noticed the difference in price between the 30's cab and the 60's cab was massive. I went with the cab containing V60's and absolutely love it. Now i don't have a comparison video or even an example recording as i'm not quite there yet, but could you possibly talk about your opinion on the 2 speakers and the differences in sound compared to price. LOVE the fuckin channel mate, keep up the killer work!! 🤘
Katana 100w Head owner here. It's a magnificent Head. At home I pair it with a Hughs & Kettner T112. Live I pair it with a Marshall 1968B. I spent a lot of time fine tuning the software settings, signal chain and EQ. Great Head !!!

GLEEEEENNNNNNNN, You always deliver the raw true no matter how much its going to hurt. Thanks for being so genuine amongst a sea of disingenuous characters.
Personally, I will never get sick of seeing how others dial in, and the fact that you're willing to both (solo n mix), is just bonus Mic vs no mic would be interesting too It would save others a lot of time if they have a similar studio as you, and also might get them curious to try something they haven't, even if their situation is different Thank You for all you do sir 🎼🎵🎶🎸🎶🎵🎼
Yes, a video on surviving bullying would be great!!! Please go ahead with that as soon as you can! I'm waaay too old to benefit from it but thousands of teenagers definitely will.
The idea of a video showing the differences between the guitar tone you want for playing by yourself and the one you need for a mix is pretty dope and would help a lot! Hope u go on with this
I did a tonne of research on sub $500 guitars and it lead me to the Yamaha Pacifica line. Specifically the 112 range. I had started on a guitar that should never have been made and wanted to upgrade to a decent enough "beginners" instrument. One that I could drag it around with me from now on, even if I upgrade again at some point. I love this thing. It has exceeded expectations and constantly inspires me to pick the thing up and practice. It has become a jack of all trades in my studio and accidentally dinging it does not induce a heart attack as it is an inexpensive bit of kit.
Iv been watching for ages but never actually bothered subscribing… however, the apology for the dodgy intros made me laugh so much and… fair play man… it’s a learning curve. I’m gonna subscribe, hopefully it’ll go some small way to help with your UA-cam algorithm. 🤘🏼
The II II II II can absolutely do modern tight metal, there are several presets for that, but you likely just didn't have time to get to them since there are a bazillion. Great playing great vid. Haters gon' hate. I've had the amp since early 2021.
It still amazes me that so many people don't get that a guitar tone for sitting in a mix and a tone for bedroom playing are two very different things.
I have to explain this to my students all the time. I tell em to go search youtube for isolated guitar tracks from recordings.

“Guitar tone vs guitar in the mix” would be a really good and fascinating video to make. Maybe do one vid for cleans and one for distortion tones
Glenn: "Extend empathy, even to haters."
Disclaimer: may not apply to bass players. 😂
Oh yeah…..
Can’t wait for the content!!!
Morning!
I would love to see a video about setting tones for solo playing vs in a mix!
Great show! Cheers 🤘
I would definitely like to see a video with some tips on how to dial in a guitar tone for jamming vs in a mix.
SKAL! Glen. I agree with dude. Your empathy is awesome. Keep being a compassionate and fair minded human.
Beginner here. I would love see a content explaining guitar tone in the mix.
I'm so glad you can take criticism in a good way and thank god for the end of the annoying intros
Hi Glen. Can you do a video on mixing with pedals? Since there are so many more pedal than 500 series, it makes sense. Please do the video on creating tones for recording vs just playing. I’m not a guitarist but I would send it to my metal guitar friend.
Not even close!
Love your ‘Bad news’ T-shirt Glenn, a hilarious Spinal Tap homage.
Perfect timing Glenn! Coffee break from video editing, enjoying a cup of coffee and your video now 👍🏼
Here’s my take on “let’s edit out the fuck ups” 🤣 enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/k4zdSOw-c6s/v-deo.html
I love your work, thank you for all you do!!!
Got my coffee too! Still trying to adjust back to North American time!!
Hey Jenni .loved your last Germany trip. Keep the videos rolling and keep it heavy 🤘
YES on the bully video!!!!! You're awesome!
I'm going to say first like it means anything
You’re second! You win NOTHING! Muhahahaha!!!
First? Apparently not. Queer? Most definitely.
@@SpectreSoundStudios I was going to win something for being first?
Just wait until someone contacts you on Telegram xD
Probably one of my favorite thing about watching your videos is your brutal approach to the truth. You're not dancing around your opinion to avoid offending anyone, which I have seen from countless other content creators. Subscribing.
But I liked that “alright everybodys”!!!
Thanks for all the content
Cheers from NS
As a bullying victim myself for many years, metal, the gym, and learning how to fight (MMA) really changed my life for the better and helped shape me into who I am today. I’m still struggling on UA-cam and my content gets shit on quite regularly lol but that’s just how it goes for everyone until you get ahead one day and things turn around!
Very sorry to hear about your bullying experience, Glenn. But the same concept clearly applies to you, here. You became a better man for it despite all the struggle. A video pertaining to that struggle would be epic! All the best and much love as always brother 🤘
By yourself vs In the mix Video is desperately needed and encouraged, Glenn!
Yes, please! I would love a video on setting up for solo play vs in a mix.
Yes, Glen, make that video, about setting up guitar for a mix vs. set up for practice.
1:30 I wanted to point out this subject too but I thought it was irrelevant. The ALRIGHT EVERYBODY intro really pumps me up for the day but its kinda akward if it is too long or if its not edited with some DBZ effects or something. I love your work thanks for the great content Glenn
Cannot wait for the Celestion tour/video, way-cool that you managed to set that up!
Love that you’re back to your regular annoying self-we’ve missed you. Less intro more awesomeness ❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not a metal guy but a old punk rocker from England enjoy your honesty and channel
I’m a new subscriber and I really find it very entertaining. I love the honesty and straight up information on new gear. Keep up the great work brother.
I kinda liked the "good morning vietnam" intro... aw well, the masses has spoken. Thumbs up for following what fans want Glenn. 👍
Guitar Tone for Yourself Vs Mix we need that video!
A Fender Blues Deluxe Combo
A Vox AC 15 Combo
and an ENGL Gigmaster15 with a Palmer Cab loaded with a Greenback 12" .
Glenn, love what you do and how you do it. Thanks for all the great advice and you have the best sense of humor around. You rock dude
Called it! Glenn got gud because other guitarists were dragging him down. Well done, sir. Your hard work is an inspiration.
I love all the video ideas you listed here. The bully video, the guitar tone video, heck yeah.
I love the idea of a “How I Survived Bullying” video. Many of have been there as well. Go for it Glenn!
Holy Crom YES, I know about the difference between at home sound vs studio guitars, and so many people need to see/ hear this ❤
I fucking LOVE the intros with the “alright everybody.” Just for posterity.
Glad that you’re back! 🤘🎸🤘
Yesss, a video on mixing and playing sound would really be interesting
100% would love to hear about how you overcame the bullying. I feel majority of metalheads all struggled through those important years, myself included. I know for a lot of people, heavy metal was the escape we needed. Love your work bro!
As a former smoker myself I'm happy you can take a deep breath enough to yell THAT long. Good job on that and proud of you for taking the initiative to work on your health.
8:03 yes, alone tone vs live tone vs recording tone!!! They are not the same!
17:03 I leave all my mistakes in, but my vids aren’t complex metal parts
At around 20:57 mark - I think this relates to a concept I heard about several years ago re: tuning. IIRC there are 2 kinds - equal temperament (based on mathematics and more like the tuning of a piano) and just intonation (which I believe is more common in folk instruments with drones). I actually think the latter is what barbershop quartets use and is what their very well blended 'full' sound is attributed to
So yes, I think there might actually be a real basis for why this seems to work :)
Thanks!
screw the haters about your intro scream! it's fun!
Looking into firefly guitars as well. Hope you are able to get a hold of one for review. Ty as always Brother. ❤️👍🙏
Who knows, it might actually help them sell an album
Been watching for years and truly appreciate the hard work you put in.
Lmao treating guitarists like the children we are
Yes! Please make a video on mix tone vs bedroom tone! Love your show, man!
I want the video about guitar tone for the record vs. tone for playing at home :) plz
i. love. these... welcome back glennnnnnnnnnn
YES YES YES to the getting tones that work in the mix please and thank you
Your comment about changing the sound of your guitar when in a recording situation was right on.
Hey first time commenter here, I love the energy ya got here! Anywho I do appreciate the honesty and I cant tell you how many times it takes me to get "the one" take for any recording
GLEEEEENNNNNNNN, You always deliver the raw true no matter how much its going to hurt. Thanks for being so genuine amongst a sea of disingenuous characters.
Alot of us have suffered from bullying and I have kids that are dealing with it now. We would love to see your video on the subject
Personally, I will never get sick of seeing how others dial in, and the fact that you're willing to both (solo n mix), is just bonus
Mic vs no mic would be interesting too
It would save others a lot of time if they have a similar studio as you, and also might get them curious to try something they haven't, even if their situation is different
Thank You for all you do sir
🎼🎵🎶🎸🎶🎵🎼
Again Bless you Glenn!!!
You are inspiring.
As much your Hater Loves his Les
We all Love you More than Gibson !!!
;)
Yes, a video on surviving bullying would be great!!! Please go ahead with that as soon as you can! I'm waaay too old to benefit from it but thousands of teenagers definitely will.
Jimmy Page didn't worry about Danelectro not being an expensive guitar on stage.......Rock on Glen!
Yes! We need a video on guitar tones for mix vs playing by yourself!
I don’t like to say negative things so I just fast forwarded through the “intro” in case it was working for ya. Always enjoy the content. 👍
The idea of a video showing the differences between the guitar tone you want for playing by yourself and the one you need for a mix is pretty dope and would help a lot! Hope u go on with this
Getting a LOT of suggestions for this... It's on the list!
GREAT VID GLENN. I agree about the BOSS Katana, I have the 50mk2 & I love it. It's my practice amp, nothing better!
